Bjorntorp Article introduces obesity as a self inflicted condition and state that it can be easily managed. His article also states the obvious, that obesity is becoming a world wide epidemic. While he has some very good point I had to realize his article was written in 1997 A totally different stage of the rise of obesity. It was more of a joke and not many people took it serious as we do today. He also talked about the cost burden to the economy explaining the rise in cost due to increase sicknesses and disease associated with the condition. His research of cost burden hit on early retirement, which was, apiece I never thought of. The end of the article point out that a combination of exercise and dieting were the most effective path to deal
A critical issue has arisen recently in the United States that obesity has become more prevalent than ever before. During the past 20 years, more than one-third of U.S. adults and approximately one-fifth of the children and adolescents has been considered to be overweight. It is undeniable that everyone will promptly concurs something must be done in order to solve this crisis. However, this accord often ends on a debate of whether or not being obese is our own fault and government should intervene in helping the situation. In my opinion, although we are somewhat responsible for our own health, we cannot totally blame on those obese people for being corpulent and the government should definitely get involved in alleviating this problem.
Is obesity really a serious health concern or is the “epidemic” merely a result of highly fabricated, misleading ideas of politicians and the media? The article, Obesity: An Overblown Epidemic? By W. Wayt Gibbs featured in the May 23, 2005 edition of Scientific America, raises this question. Most health experts and average people believe that obesity is one of the most prevalent health concerns today, resulting in increased risk for other major health issues; such as; heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer, and the chance for early loss of life. However, other researchers are suggesting that the consequences of being overweight are being blown out of proportion. Naturally, they do

It is very difficult to pinpoint one sole reason obesity is occurring in people, there are many different justifications for what causes a person to become obese. He stated that people this subject tends to strike a nerve with people because they tend defend their natural decision. That follows with the pros that line up with obesity being a disease, six pros as to why it’s a disease comes in 3 criterias: 1.Impairment of one’s normal life functions being able to physical move about.2.characteristics, breathing, and active levels as well energy.Mobidity. The human body organs can only take so much weight until the system starts to suffer and take an alternative to shut down. The second pro, as Dr.Nahmias spoke about is impairment of the body’s functions which have a breakdown of what takes place. The leptins become excessive which is body fat, now how one becomes obese is dominated from the excessive body fat this tissue than runs as overproduction of leptin which as control over the intake of one’s energy as well food it acts as our inside mediator but after the intake of food over passes due to lack of energy, abnormal regulations get out of balance that sums up obesity. Obesity as we know takes a toll on the body but joint wise puts are knees, hips and joints at risk due to the weight change. Another risk factor that can take place is sexual health for men and women, obesity lowers men’s sperm count and for women, it leads to infertility and miscarriages. To add on

That’s a great step, but you can always avoid school lunches. I know that people can’t force people to eat healthy. But I realize that how we are is really not anyone’s fault, except ours. Obesity is how much self control people have and how we handle our food options.

Obesity is becoming one of the biggest problems in the country, but there has to be reasons for it. It can be the economy, society now, or people and companies. It’s time that our country starts to realize that we can’t live like this anymore. We need to see what is causing the sudden rise in obesity, and what we can do to fix it. Education of risks and solutions can be very helpful. Obesity is killing so many people, yet is still 100 percent avoidable. Our country is beginning to care less and really let themselves go. The fast food industry, supermarkets, and schools are the ones at fault for the spreading problem of obesity.

Obesity is a very serious subject that a lot of people take lightly, especially us as Americans. America is the most obese country in the world. Statistics show that 300,000 people die a day in the United States of America due to obesity. This clearly shows that we have a serious problem that is massively underestimated. Obesity is also something that countries all across the world suffer from. For example, Australia is also one of the most obese countries in the world, and 50,000 people die a year from obesity in Australia. That’s 140 people who die per day in Australia. To solve the problem of obesity the prices of junk food should be raised and the prices of healthy food should be lowered and more convenient.
Contrary to belief, obesity has no clearly defined solution. Many believe that it is a chosen lifestyle and that by just exercising more and eating healthier the problem will be solved. This false mindset is at the core of the problem as portrayed in “the iceberg model” and addresses just the “tip of the iceberg”. There is in fact a “bigger picture” at play. Other characteristics on an individual level like physiological and psychological factors are also a major influence.
