I was an airline employee who was loading and unloading the aircraft that day. Upon opening the cargo hold door of the aircraft, I could hear the crying meows that were coming from inside. After taking the kennels inside of the claim area, I could clearly see the large, multiple scars that covered their shaved heads and bodies. The cats seemed to avoid eye-contact or any type of interaction with me, preferring it seemed to stare blankly across the room, occasionally uttering a pitiful bellowing low, drawn out cry. These cats were not the fortunate beloved pets waiting for loving owners to come pick them up, these cats had spent their lives being sentenced for research not ever to know what life outside of it might involve. It is wrong because it uses and wastes millions of taxpayers’ dollars on the testing of vaccines and antibodies of which only a very few are ever licensed for human use, the research presents inadequate and erroneous information because animals are genetically different from humans, and the methods of conducting the research are cruel and inhumane to the estimated over 100 million animals used in research each
In conclusion, scientists and researchers shouldn’t test on animals because it hurts them hurts them. When scientists make animals have pain and the react to it they continue to cause them more pain. Most scientists and researchers buy and breed animals to do tests on them and they shouldn’t because it isn’t right and they have no right to do so. When most animals are tested on they die or get really sick to the point where they might need to be put down. Animals testing should be banned and scientists should stop breeding test
Animals can be burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused as a result of testing. And the list could go on forever. The way animals are being mistreated and tested on should be against the law. There is a different ways to do research other than killing and abusing animals. There are many alternate test that scientist can use to do there research without harming animals. Alternative test are defined as test that use the three “R’s”, a test that replaces a procedure that uses animals with one that doesn’t, a test that reduces the number of animals used in a procedure, and test that refine a procedure to cause less pain to the animal.(11 Facts about…)
An estimated 25 million or more animals are used yearly in the U.S. These animals are commonly used in biomedical research as “models” for human disease, they are also used in basic biomedical research which is research for general understanding. Not only are animals used in biomedical research but, behavioral research as well, such as psychology and addiction studies, military, space, and agricultural research, product development and drug testing, as well as science education. Animals shouldn’t be used for such testing, these tests are unethical, inhumane and completely unnecessary. Thousands of animals suffer and die every day in laboratories around the world. In most states, abuse or cruelty towards animals is illegal. A person can face up to 7 years in prison and a fine of maximum $235,600. If it is illegal for cruelty to be conducted on animals why does it make it okay in the name of science?
For many years, the field of science has used animals in medical experiments worldwide, because of this innocent animals are being killed everyday. They are being tested with new drugs, new treatments, and by many makeup companies. Connecticut recently celebrated the passage of the “Beagle Freedom Law”, a law that requires laboratories to work with charities and rescue groups to find homes for research cats and dogs. Animals are being tested so humans do not have to be but animal tests do not reliably predict results in human beings, although animals are the closest thing to humans. Most experiments involving animals are flawed, wasting the lives of innocent animal subjects. Over 100 million animals suffer a year from testing. Testing animals is a lot more expensive than alternative methods and it is wasting government research dollars. Animal testing is not only a bad idea, but it is also inhuman and it should not be tolerated. The FDA should stop allowing animal testing. An animal does not give out the same results on a test than a human would.
Through testing with animal research scientist have been able to create new cures and treat once thought incurable diseases. Many biomedical experiments developed treatments for anthrax, rabies, polio and smallpox, as well as developed anti-depressants, tranquilizers and antibiotics for medical use. Advocates of the opposition are hardly reasonable as their opinions are adjusted purely for emotional value. Their main argument is the fact that animal testing harms
Each study can cost thousands of dollars to create and because the results produced can be inaccurate, many tests are repeated multiple times. While a skin irritation test costed under seven hundred dollars to produce in 2005, other tests require almost one million dollars to create, such as the carcinogenicity test which cost over eight hundred thousand and with inflation, the costs are only rising. (Bottini and Hartung, 7). The excessive amount of money needed to perform these tests would only be worth it if the tests were providing useful information, but because these tests aren’t as effective as they should be, spending exorbitant amounts of money is inefficient and pointless. Furthermore, each test requires hundreds of animals over a long period of time(Bottini and Hartung, 7). The animals used in the study are bred specifically to be tested on. They are then researched on for an extended amount of time, and when the scientists have received the results they need, all of the animals that were participating in the study are killed (Stokes, S31). Again, if the research performed on the animals was providing worthwhile information then there would be at least some purpose for the subjects but because the nature of the studies have a high chance of being inaccurate, they cause the deaths of thousands of animals unnecessarily. Not only is animal testing ineffective, it is also extremely
“We have made a way from studying humans… we all drank Kool-Aid on that one included…The problem is that (animal testing) hasn’t worked, and it’s time we stopped dancing around the problem…We need to refocus and adapt ne methodologies for use in humans to understand diseases in biology in humans” (Dr.Elias Zerhouni). Animal testing is when animals are taking from their habitat and put in cages in a laboratory. They wait in the cages until scientist have to do scientific testing and commercial testing on them. These poor animals get tortured just so a company can take out a new hair spray. We should not use animals for scientific or commercial testing.
First of all to test on it and stick injections and pills into to the animal for human purposes is terrible, and then to not even use any of the research. Also some animals are used for laundry detergent testing or shampoo testing this is terrible that we would use animals just to test something as simple as shampoo. We are torturing animals for our own
“A 2009 peer-reviewed study found serious flaws in the majority of publicly funded US and UK animal studies using rodents and primates.” (Con 9). (http://animal-testing.procon.org/). If they found something wrong with the majority of the studies then there definitely needs to be something changed. “Since the majority of animals used in biomedical research are killed during or after the experiments, and since many suffer during the studies, the lives and wellbeing of animals are routinely sacrificed for poor research.” (Con 9). (http://animal-testing.procon.org/). While performing tests or experiments that are inaccurate you scientists are wasting the lives of precious little animals. I understand not all tests are accurate, but to do that same inaccurate tests over and over knowing it’s not going to work really makes no sense at
Medical testing on animals kills more than one hundred million animals every year! Animals are sometimes used in the testing of drugs, vaccines and other biological tests, and medical things, mainly to determine the safety of the product. Even though there are many other ways to test this still goes on. Many people think its the best way to test but it is not. Many many animals are tested on and few end up alive in the end. It seems like they would have stopped it by now but they have not.
Animal testing wates hundreds of millions of dollars and it is ineffective. Animal testing should not be allowed because animal testing has never really worked. Humans and animals have different genetics and adult stem cell research is more effective than animal testing. To start with, animal testing has never really worked. Animal tested drugs have killed, disabled, or harmed millions of people and lead to costly delays as well. One well know delay was polio vaccine which was held up for over three million decades before humans could use it. Also, 90% of medications approved for humans use after animal testing later proved ineffective or harmful to humans. Next, The only way to efficiently discover cures and create vaccines is
I disagree with animal testing because it’s cruel and inaccurate. From the article The Grim Good Of Animal Research states “if we experimented directly on people from the beginning, treatments and cures might be discovered more quickly”. It also stated that not all findings relate to human disease. The animals are treated cruelly and immoral to use animals in this way.The article Results From Research On Animals Are Not Valid When Applied To Humans “Scientists use animals in biological and medical research more as a matter of tradition, not because animal research has proved particularly successful or better than other modes of experimentation”. In 2004 researchers spent 2 billion dollars testing a product that failed with humans. It was taken
Animal Rights and Medical research has always been a controversial subject. There are many advantages and disadvantages on both sides. From all the information gathered on this research project, medical research seemed more important. It is a fact that animals do suffer every day when they are being tested on. Many of them are being sacrificed and many die before scientist get a definite answer. It is obvious that animals also feel depressed and suffer like any human would. Although animals do have rights, it can be proven that a lot of the vaccines we have today come from animal testing. There is so many remedies out there now because of animal testing. There are alternatives that exist now that can be used instead of animals testing, but
Some people oppose the use of animals in medical experiments. They think that it is unfair to animals and animal abuse. Animal testing is wrong, because the animal cannot say so they had no choice. For example, Animals can't talk, animals cannot do anything when they starting to experiment. As there is one article that, “Animals are routinely cut open, poisoned and put into cages for weeks, month, or even year” (Ocean Lu Blog). So, they think that animals do not deserve to do these things for them. However, animal testing it is a great way to make sure to research the products is safe before retail and letting people use. An estimated 26 million animals are used every year in the United States for science and commercial testing. Animals were
Several medical research institutions make use of animals as test subjects. They are subject to experimentation and altered into conditions useful for acquiring knowledge about diseases we humans continue to fight or testing for potential treatments, solutions or cures. Rats and mice share several genetic and physiological traits with humans, which is why they are the most abused test subjects. Since they share so many of our human qualities they increasingly help further medical science research. Yes, there has been some animal testing contributed to life saving cures, but does that make it right? Proponents of animal testing also believe the animal benefits from the testing, which is the most outrageous thing I 've ever heard. If the vaccines for distemper,
