I used to give up when things got tough, but Billy Fisher changed that. Billy showed me the growth mindset; to grow from my mistakes. He showed me to learn from the obstacles that once stopped you. Even though Billy showed me; helped me when I was almost done. He also helped me and encouraged me to stay at the cemetery; the place I almost quit, but he helped me stay and pull through the hard times. The first day I was as lost as a newborn; no idea on how to weed whack or what I was doing while the wet freshly cut grass stuck to my boots. Billy gave me advice on it. I needed to cut the grass to the sweet spot so it wouldn't shrivel up dry and die but not need cut again right away. He showed me how to restring the weed whacker and showed me …show more content…
Halfway done I was already fatigued and sweaty in the blazing heat so I looked at him and asked, “got any tricks or techniques to make this easier?”. His response made me a little unhappy, but it helped me grow. He responded with “yea, but I am not telling you till you are almost done,” then he proceeded to smoke his cigarette. I let of a light sigh and continued, until he decided I had enough and he did the rest showing me the easy way. I'm never going to forget the huge angry storms we had over the summer, my boss and Billy did all the chopping with the chainsaw and I did all the loading with another new guy that was hired after I was. Nine to eight hours of just loading brush and strapping it down. One day there was about 3 trailer fulls with a tower of crooked and bent brush loaded in it and some almost got blown off by the wind. Since I was the youngest they made me climb in the back of the trailer to get the brush more compact and walk around on it just to make it all nice and snug. They started loaded when I was in the back and Billy almost accidently hit me so I yelled, “watch it, I am still in up
But I kept on climbing , and never doubted myself. That was the best piece of advice my mother gave me. It was also one of the key inspiration to my poem “Mother To Son”.
Antwone "Fish" Fisher is a complex individual who has been through a great deal of psychological and sociological conflicts in his short life. His mother was arrested and then abandons him, he was abused physically and emotional, and then lived on the streets. In short, nearly everything bad that can possible happen to a person has happened to young Antwone Fisher before he has reached adulthood. In his autobiographical book Finding Fish (2001), Fisher explains how the torment that he experienced in his youth shaped the man that he would become in adulthood. Although this story tells about one young man's difficulties in life and how he had to overcome obstacles in order to be a functional and positive member of society, it is really a story about the larger human condition and how every person becomes affected by their experiences.
truth. “Sometimes in life, giving up isn’t the answer because hard work will one day pay off”.
Encouragement plays a significant role in my success. Without encouragement, the achievement won't come true. Juliet Ferking, the author of "A Drive to Achieve the Extraordinary" from This I Believe: Life Lessons, tells her story about
After a couple of days I knew landscaping wasn’t for me but I knew I had to keep going. I had a set schedule for the week; on Mondays and Tuesdays I would go with my cousin, Edgar Fuentes, and cut grass all around the Dallas/ Fort Worth area. We would go all the way to Rockwall just to cut some grass. It would take us up to an hour to get there, but I was okay with that because we were getting paid by the hour. We would cut up to around 15-20 yawns each day. We would have to cut grass, fertilize and then leaf blow everything. I would remember getting home and taking off my boot and have my feet swollen because of how much I walked those days.
The day started at 6:00 in the morning. My magnificent Dad fired up the semi so it could build air and then we rechecked the chains to make sure the tractor was not going anywhere. We arrive at awesome Brookville around 7:00 in the morning. We unloaded the M and then we had to take off 14 100 pound weights in order to get the M into the 5600 pound class. 8:30 rolls around and i’m getting ready to pull. I drive out on the track back up to the sled. I wait for the flag to wave green, then I idle up start letting out on the clutch then I let the ole M eat, Throttle maxed, The M

Someone really inspiring to me taught me to always give 100% and always get back up no matter how many times you fall. When Life gets tough I think of this lesson and push through whatever dilema I’m in. When I think of this career I know there will never be a time when I don’t wake up excited to go to work.
leg and set to work. He freed me and with a little help I made it to
This has influenced me to continue to never give up on myself and to push myself to higher limits than those others set for me.
My boyfriend smokes and I really want him to quit because it is so bad, but if he quits just because I want him too, he will end up smoking again because it is what currently wants. I have told him many times that he has to do it for himself, otherwise it will just be an endless cycle of trying to quit and then just smoking again. When he is ready, he will quit.
Antwone Fisher in my opinion is probably the most impactful movie I have ever seen. People may say, “ What a good movie” but I say “what a good man”.
“I was giving up, I would've given up if a voice hadn't made itself heard in my heart. The voice said, I will not die. I refuse it. I will make it through this nightmare. I will beat the odds, as great as
“You must not give up. I want to let you know that even if you’re facing so many problems, and feel like there’s no one to talk to, I'll be here for you. Everyone else might want to be the sun that lights up your life, but I rather be the moon that guides you through your darkest hours. Let’s strive hard and work toward our goal together!” This was what my high school teacher told me 10 years ago and I have remembered it until now, and will remember it for the next 10 years and so on.
How my father is a big part in my life. My dad is also a really big role in my life. My dad has shown me and told me that you don’t want to mess up your life because you might not get a second chance. He helps me practice when I think I am bad at something; he helps me to get better and tells me not to give up when you're struggling. If you think you are doing something bad you are going to stay bad if you don't practice.
