In my opinion the battle of the five armies was the worst of the three movies. I felt the plotline in this movie was not as good as the others. But there were not as many differences in between the film and the movie. In the film there were no talking birds, which I wanted to see. In the movie, Thorin shoots an arrow at the feet of Thranduil’s horse. Bilbo does not meet either Gandalf or Bard at the fire but rather walks right up to them. Also in the movie, Bilbo is struck on the head and survives without any injury. In the movie Thorin kills Bolg. Legolas appears in the movie but he does not appear in the book. When Bilbo is saying goodbye to Gandalf he is shown carrying a chest. It is not shown that they split the treasures like it says in
The little people, half our height with little or no magic, called hobbits. Hobbits dress in no shoes because they have they have leathery soles for the feet and their feet are hairy. The hobbit has clever brown fingers and good natured-faces with no beard. Most hobbits are fat in the stomach and dress in bright colors. Also, they have deep fruity laughs.
A Hero’s Journey The hero whom I have chose for this assignment is Bilbo Baggins. Although he doesn’t look brave at first through his journey his courage shows later on. His journey alines with that of a hero’s journey. Stage one is the Departure; within the departure there are three parts “An unusual Birth/ Early Childhood,” “The call to Adventure,” and “Crossing the threshold.”
Although the movies are a beautiful remake of the original book, there a quite a few distinct differences between the two. These differences can be very simple: like the fact that Gollum only has six teeth in the book and nine in the movie, or very complex: like the fact that whole new characters were added to the movie that were not originally in the book. The elves Legolas, Tauriel, and Galadriel played very prominent roles in the book in helping the dwarves and hobbit on their journey, yet they ceased to exist in the original text. Another substantial difference between the book and movies is that in the book, the dwarves and hobbit weren’t aware of Smaug leaving (or being killed for that matter) until they were alerted of this news by the crows. However, in the movie, a pretty large battle took place between the dwarves and Smaug. As far as smaller differences go, in the book the keyhole to get into Smaug’s chamber was lit by the sunset, whereas in the movie the keyhole was lit by the light of the moon; the movie showed Bard’s children and the book didn’t; and in the book it talks of Gandalf throwing pinecones lit with fires of many color, but in the book they were all one color; and the movie featured an attack
Bilbo Baggins is one of the main characters of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Being a main character in a story, especially an adventure story, typically comes with some pretty hefty responsibilities. More often than not, the main character is also the hero. A hero is defined as “a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities,” and these are not necessarily qualities readily attributed to Bilbo Baggins (oxforddictionaries.com). This essay will look at three ways in which Bilbo contrasts the traditional characteristics of a hero and what transformations he ends up making to fit the mold more closely. It will examine his lineage, his strength, and his attitude as well as the changes he makes throughout the story.
How can an author write a story which appeals to a present day audience? Richard H. Tyre published an article in 1978 that gives an answer to this very question. Tyre explains how most kids today choose to read books like the Harry Potter series, The Lord of the Rings series, and even The Wizard of Oz. An existing theory that Tyre came up with explains that each of these books, along with many others, have one thing in common: 6 plot elements. Not only do these stories contain the same 6 elements but those elements are in the same order! Tyre states that “(1) those who hunt for treasure, (2) must go alone, (3) at night, (4) and when they find it, (5) they must leave some of their blood behind, (6) and the treasure is never what they expected.” (Tyre 2). J.R.R. Tolkien is the author of The Hobbit. The Hobbit revolves around one hobbit in particular named Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo embarks on a journey with 14 others to recover a treasure that is guarded by a dragon. Along the way Bilbo faces many challenges that range from running into huge trolls, to taking part in fierce battles. Due to it’s main character hunting for treasure, facing most of the dangers alone, battling during the wee hours of the night, eventually finding the treasure, after sweating/crying/and enduring injuries, just to have the treasure revealed to him as not what he expected, J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit is undoubtedly a perfect example of Tyre’s 6 plot elements.
The word “hero,” might conjure an image of somebody dressed in shining armour holding a sword and slaying the terrible dragon guarding a hoard of gold. In The Hobbit, there is indeed a heinous dragon guarding a hoard of treasure, and a hero who embarks on a journey to defeat the dragon and reclaim his stolen birthright. However, there is not just one hero, but two: Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who plays the role of the non-traditional hero, and Thorin Oakenshield, a strong-minded dwarf who represents the traditional hero. By the end of the story, both characters have established that they’re capable of conquering obstacles and adversities with their individual set of skills that they’ve either acquired or already had: Bilbo with his
Their once lived a hobbit by the name of Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo lived in a neighborhood with another hobbit which was his dad. Other than that Bilbo didn’t just live somewhere their was a hole , the hole was a hobbit hole . The hole didn’t smell like dirt or anything, it was a clean hobbit hole .Hobbits were no bigger than 3 feet .Through the first part of the movie or book it states that Bilbo was very respectable . Bilbo did not like any adventures or unexpected things. You can tell what Bilbo was going to say before you evan get a chance to ask him anything. It wasn’t rude, Bilbo did not really like anything but reading Bilbo was a very quiet ,in fact some evan called him names. Out of all of the hobbits Bilbo was the lame one ,that’s what
The uniform wickedness demonstrated by the goblins in Chapter 4 affirms the connection between race and moral tendencies in Tolkien’s fantasy world. The different races of Middle-Earth possess specific moral characteristics, so that goblins, who are infamous for their ability to make cruel weapons and instruments of torture, are evil, and elves are good. There are no exceptions. The races of Middle-Earth also possess qualities that have little direct bearing on their overall moral standing. Hobbits love food, for instance, and dwarves love gold. Again, there are no exceptions. Bilbo seems to be the only one capable of making complex moral choices that test the boundaries of his
Bilbo has a lot of positive traits. Bilbo is really stealthy. He was right behind a troll and it had no idea. With being stealthy Bilbo also has the ability pickpocket even though he got cot. His ability to hid is also good at keeping him from being captured. When thorin came and saw all the dwarves were captured but Bilbo was just out of site.
In the book The Hobbit the main character Bilbo Baggins is not very adventurous however on the other side of his family is. They are known as the Took’s. They are the other side of Bilbo’s family. They are more adventurous than the Baggins. Bilbo and the dwarves go on many adventures that take Bilbo out of his comfort zone he steps into the light of an explorer.
From the very beginning of the novel The Hobbit, it has been about Bilbo overcoming his greatest fears and doing the unexpected. Bilbo learned to get out of his unbalanced lifestyle of comfort and out in the real world where not everything is the same as how it was in the books. The message in the novel is about how people are living imbalanced lifestyles which causes them to be lazy and never explore the real world. Bilbo was not balanced between his Baggins and Took sides which cause him to become more lazy than adventurous.
In “The Hobbit” and the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy there are two characters of similarity that play a key role in both narratives. Thorin II Oakinshield and Aragorn II Elessar are two would be kings who come into their crowns in time for their own respective books or series to end. Both dwarf and man have a journey to their individual thrones and in particular the genesis, the journey and the end of their adventures share a great deal of commonality and precarious differences, variables that with or without their crowns says and awful lot about them.

This quote show what Thorin thinks of Bilbo and his role in the group. He is doubting his abilities and thinking he would only come in the way of their plan to steal the treasure from Smaug the dragon who is guarding it at misty mountains. Gandalf who lead them to Bilbos house and took his side which got the dwarves to agree on adding him to the group as the 14th member. This quote show that tomorrow they will be starting on their journey.
As children develop into adults, certain events and time periods stand out as the reason for important changes in their character. J.R.R. Tolkien portrayed the main character of The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, as a child on his trip into adulthood. Throughout The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, the protagonist, changes from a childlike hobbit to a fully matured hero. J.R.R. Tolkien divides the change in Bilbo's character into the three major part of the book, prior to the quest, during the quest, and after the quest.
