Introduction:
Almost everyone has an opinion about almost anything. The strength of opinions fluctuate. However, when it comes to financial and political issues, opinions are usually strong. The strong opinions of a writer leads to bias in their pieces of writing. Sometimes opinions in writing are meant to be shared. In news journalism, bias is meant to be minimized with the intent of conveying the most accurate message to the readers and viewers. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the beginning, middle, and end of the space race through three different media sources. One of these sources will lean left, one will lean right, and the other neutral. The goal is to determine which source is more trustworthy by assessing and comparing the amount of bias in each article. Thesis
Overview of Issue:
The Cold War was not a fight with weapons, but rather a collection of competitions between the Soviet Union and the United States in order to prove whose government is superior. The most impactful competition, that occurred during this time, was the space race. The space race consisted of many successful and failed attempts by both countries to reach space. It

Sputnik I was a man-made object the former Soviet Union successfully launched into space on October 4th, 1957. The beach ball sized satellite surprised the world, because it was the first artificial satellite to reach space, and the Soviet Union was very humbly proud. This launched the space race. The United States wanted to prove superiority over the Soviet Union in every aspect, so shortly after the launch, Washington announced plans to send a United States satellite into space. However, during the early years of the space race, a little over 50% of Americans did not support it. It was not fully supported, because many citizens believed the financial cost was higher than the benefit of the research. The bias in the following articles should pick a
The first unmanned satellite called “Sputnik 1” launched and sent to the space by Soviet Union in 1957.
The Race to Space was a competition the United States and Soviet Union engaged in to see who had the most advanced space technology. The competition included some events like who launched the first manned spacecraft into space and who would be the first to walk on the moon, these events took place during the Cold War. The cold war was a decades long period of time with increased tensions for global power and influence. The Race to Space gave many impressions on the political, economic, and social aspects of the Cold War.
According to Doc A "Sputnik came as a surprise to most Americans". Not only did "Sputnik came as a surprise to most Americans" Sputnik also struck fear into many Americans. Americans even prepared for a nuclear war, they also made a video called "Duck and Cover"(you can find it here " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKqXu-5jw60 "). Around this time Dr. Wernher Von Braun made a full scale model of Explorer 1, replicating the first satellite by the U.S.(Doc E). While in a rush to catch up with The Soviet Union, and on December 6th, 1957 while in a rush to catch up, the U.S. sent the Vanguard rocket attempting to get the rocket to space quickly the U.S. rushed causing the rocket to turn into a fireball on TV.
On October 4th, 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik, a small satellite, successfully into orbit, and the Space Race truly
( Klempner et al.). The Space Race had a huge effect on the outcome of the Cold War. The Space Race was another place where the Soviet Union and the United States had competition. The Soviet Union was leading in the Space Race at the beginning by launching the world's first
One of the greatest achievements from many during the space race was that the Soviet Union sent the first satellite into space. This was a great achievement because satellites were used a lot and were necessary during the space race. The first satellite sent to space was known as ¨sputnik¨ and was sent on October 4,1957 by the Soviet nation during the first year of the race. According to history.com it stated, ¨ Sputnik 1 remained in orbit until January 4, 1958, when it burned up on reentering Earth atmosphere¨. Later, during the race more of these satellites were used and marking more achievements.
Sputnik I was launched on October 4th, 1957 by Russia, sending panic through Americans. Both the US and USSR were trying to be the first ones into space. So this failure had pushed the US to work harder and led to the creation of NASA.The creation of NASA had lead to the start of the space race. Space race conflicts had lasted over the next 30 years until the Americans had finally claimed the victory in the space race.
Sputnik 1 was created by Mikhail Tikhonravov, along with a group of other scientists who assisted him. It was the very first artificial satellite to ever be launched into space, and orbit the earth on October 4th, 1957. According to several scientists who took part in the creation of Sputnik, it was actually a smaller, more scaled back version of the rocket they originally had hoped to launch. Although a compromise, Sputnik is still seen as a great accomplishment. The scientists created it in the form of a sphere, and filled it
A lot of people ask what a satellite is or why is it import. Well if it wasn’t for satellites you would have no Wi-Fi or internet! So let’s get right in to a specific one. Sputnik! It was made by a company in Russia that wanted to see more and go beyond things. On October 4, 1957 the Soviet Union launched sputnik 1, the first manmade object to orbit the entire earth. It was the first artificial earth satellite. According to
Sputnik 1 was the very first artificial satellite sent to space in history, and so it was a big moment for the USSR. It took about 98 minutes to orbit around the Earth. This has also surprised and shocked the United States. According to National Air and Space Museum, “Sputnik's launch came as an unnerving surprise to the United States. The space age had dawned and America's Cold War rival suddenly appeared technologically superior.”
Be it resolved, the technological advancements during the Cold War (1945-1991) did more good than harm. The first benefit we saw sprout from the Cold War was the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union. This topic was researched by Braden Allen, a researcher working for Washington State University. Allen starts off by talking about what started the Space Race, which was the launching of Sputnik, the first manmade satellite sent into our Earth’s orbit. This action done by the Soviet Union caused the United States to join in the Space Race for the next objective that was set, to be able to land on the moon.
By examining the two nations’ early space technology, it is evident that Russia was initially superior in this regard. Launching the world’s first-ever artificial satellite — called Sputnik I — in October of 1957, the USSR chalked
When the Soviets launched Sputnik l, the World’s first artificial satellite into space October 4th, 1957, the United States was blindsided, and had to act fast.
On October 4th, 1957 the Soviet Union launched the first ever satellite, Sputnik. The launch of Sputnik sent the United States into a frenzy, beginning the Space Race, and the innovation of technology as a whole. The Space Race most importantly had a major impact on the evolution of the United States’s defense technologies through the launch of Sputnik. The Space Race sparked the United States battle for technological superiority against the USSR, and lead to improvizations in their satellite and satellite defense technologies.
The amount of trustworthiness in an article is based on the amount of bias. The New York Times was the left-leaning source in this evaluation, however they had a small amount of bias. BBC had the same information as the New York Times, but with no bias at all. CBS News was also not on balance, but their bias was minimized. They, however, reported a lot of different information than the other two sources. Although both of these sources had very little bias, BBC was the most trustworthy source for the space race. The absence of bias as a neutral source aided in conveying the most accurate
