Beyoncé Knowles’ 2006 hit song - Irreplaceable [from the album -B’Day]
Popular R&B artiste Beyoncé Knowles songs and videos have a great influence on young women, in particular teenagers, who tends to incorporate the lyrical meaning in their personal lives. Although internationally, this diva, as she often refers herself to, has many critics, millions of fans adore her for her energetic and raunchy videos, and live performances, her sense of style and most of all, the empowerment women feel from her songs.

Because all three respondents live in Trinidad and Tobago, the two fans noted that they do not purchase tickets to attend her concerts abroad as it will be a great financial burden. However, if they had the financial means, one noted that it would be one of her lifelong dreams to see the artiste perform live on a stage before thousands of screaming fans, like herself.
The respondents described Beyoncé as being ‘really talented’, having a ‘nice voice’ and a good dancer. The music videos is appealing, at least from a woman’s point of view, said the two female respondents. The male respondent, however was unenthused by the same music video and instead noted that he was enthused by another of her videos- Check Up On It featuring Slim Thug, the theme song for the movie Pink Panther.
The official music video for Irreplaceable starts with Beyoncé filing her nails as he picks up his belongings in a house. During the narrative, she follows him around and outside where her Jaguar XK is parked. After repossessing things she had bought for him as gifts, he leaves in a taxi. Shortly thereafter another male enters the said house to meet the woman. B’Day was released in the US on September 4, 2006 (and the following day (September 5) around the world to coincide with the artist’s 25th birthday. She is also a director, clothing designer, and recently became a mother. One reason she is so famous is because everybody wants to know about her glamorous life. For nearly twenty years, Beyoncé has lived her life in the public eye yet she has always kept her cool, been submissive, and rather quiet when it came to her personal endeavors however after releasing the film “Lemonade”, we are able to see her in a vulnerable light. In Jeremy Helliger’s article: “Dear Beyhive: Stop Whining. Beyoncé Still Hasn’t Earned Her Album Of The Year Grammy” he addresses the idea that although Beyoncé was able to encourage black women to be proud and free, she also she missed the mark by adding raunchy, over the top content to her vulnerability.
Many say that music has evolved over the years. This essay shall explore the elements of two versions of one song. It shall discuss the correlations and disparities of these songs and confer how it has been revolutionised to entertain the audiences of today.
Taylor Swift, a pop icon and polarizing figure, is often known for her empowering music, feminist attitude, and meaningful lyrics. Many of her fans praise the feminist messages some of her songs deliver, however others say she comes from a position of privilege and only advocates for white women. Still, a common perception of Swift is that she has evolved from an innocent country singer into a more controversial and sometimes provocative pop singer. What is ignored though, is that despite this perception, themes depicted in “old” Taylor’s music still displayed highly problematic concepts about gender, just in less obvious ways. Particularly in her music video for “You Belong With Me,” the audience if presented with a fulfilling love story involving a nerdy girl getting the popular. On its surface, this concept may seem normal, but the narrative of this video unintentionally conveys significant gender issues in today’s society. Thus, through her 2008 music video for “You Belong With Me,” Taylor Swift ironically presents herself as the ideal nerdy girl next door who gets the guy when she suddenly turns beautiful while demonizing a cheerleader, revealing problematic notions of how women are supposed to look and behave in society, as well as reinforcing negative female stereotypes.
Over the past few years, racial tensions in America have heightened. During this period, Black America undergo the daily struggle of witnessing the killing of unarmed black men and women. Victims of these endless killings and police brutality, turned into one of many hashtags, which led to the formations of the Black Lives Matter movement. Solange Knowles, younger sister of Beyoncé, soul singer and songwriter was viewed as the angry black woman. Solange used her platform to speak up. She became the most outspoken black artist for black activism in recent years. She embodies the image of a carefree black girl who is willing to let the world know that she is proud of her blackness.

In 1982, Michael Jackson released one of the most iconic songs/music videos the world has ever seen. “Thriller” is a Halloween classic, and has been a hit since the day it was released. The Thriller Music video is roughly 13 minutes long, and is classified as a “short film”. 34 years later, the iconic Beyoncé released her album “Lemonade.” Lemonade is made up of 12 songs, and each song has its own separate video, but all the videos somehow connect and the videos were turned into an hour-long film. Beyoncé Knowles is an American Singer, Dancer and Actress. She began her career in the R&B Girl group Destiny’s Child as the lead vocalist spanning over 11 years. They released songs such as ‘Say my Name’, ‘Independent woman part 1’ and ‘Lose my Breath’ in 2004 when they returned from their 2-year hiatus; to name just a few of the top 10 hits. Beyoncé went on to become a solo artist and released her debut ‘Dangerously in Love’ in 2003 which stayed at number one for five consecutive weeks. Since then Beyoncé has released five more albums, appeared in the eight movies one of which gave her an Oscar nomination; Dream girls. While being known for her vast accomplishments, Beyoncé has used her craft to highlight the achievements and struggles of the African- American Community.
Beyonce is an African American female artist making incorporating empowering messages for women around the world. She is creating work that speaks to an audience that might not receive authentic mainstream. Beyonce ultimate goal is to visually and sonically entice wisdom through her music. Recently in a shocking video release, Beyonce debuted a new song “Formation” as well as a politically charged music video. This song was an uproar in the music industry worldwide. Millions of people around the world negatively viewed this song as a controversy. The music video and song caused many people to debate and cause a worldwide conflict.
Beyoncé Knowles, a well-known singer, songwriter uses two of her songs: “Freedom” and “Formation” to tell the story of herself. “Freedom” is the beginning of her story where she is searching for freedom and equality showing that there is still much inequality and injustice for African Americans in America today. The song slowly transitions to a more positive tone when she seems to have made something beneficial out of her difficult situation. “Formation,” however, has a completely different tone. While she does address negative situations from the past at the beginning of the song, she quickly transitions to a more positive tone full of pride in where she came from, who she has become, and what she has overcome. There are so many talented female artists in music today that it's hard not to think of some right off the top of my head. Not only do they have great voices, but they're successful and confident, not to mention pretty darn rich! Some of these artists knew that they were going to become a star while they were still in diapers. The two females that I will be highlighting are two of the younger musical talents that are out in the industry at this time.
