Hannah Duston was a big example of Heroism. Hannah was born in 1657. Hannah and her husband Thomas Duston from Massachusetts were attacked by Indians in there town Haverhill. As they were attacked Hannah's husband fled to save there 7 kids and hannah didn't leave because she was in bed rest from just giving birth. Hannah and her nurse got captured by Natives while the newborn got its head bashed against a tree and house got burnt to the ground. Hannah and her nurse both turned into slaves and experienced lots of torture and harsh living inviroments. The song Black betty can be traced back all the way back to the Revolutionary War. The term “Black Betty had a child” means that her child is a musket called the Brown Bess. “Darn thing gone wild” means that the Musket ball would hit anything from friend to foe. “The child is blind” means that the musket ball would hit a child and the shooter would not be responsible. When they say “She’s from birmingham” means that’s where muskets were made for the colonials. Ben Franklin also quoted in the “Drinker's Dictionary” in the Pennsylvania Gazette that “He had kissed the Black Betties”

In ancient Greek mythology there were gods and goddesses, heroes to their people. Today there are just hero’s, that people of the modern world thank and look up to for their inspirational acts. Just like the Gods and Goddesses, hero’s today are known to show strength, wisdom, bravery, and many other heroic characters. Jacqueline Cochran showed her heroic attributes when she came into WWII looking for a way for women to make a difference and fight in the war. Jaqueline founded WASP, Women Airforce Service Pilots, she made an impact in so many women’s lives by making them more included in the war instead of staying at home waiting for updates. Jacqueline shows the heroic traits that goddesses such as Athena showed in ancient Greece.

As Novalis, a famous German poet and philosopher once stated, “A hero is one who knows how to hang on one minute longer.” A hero does not show worry, but pushes through and can be courageous for only a little while longer than everyone else. Because heroes are people who put others before themselves, they must go above and beyond and not worry about their own safety.

In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee shows how fear and racism has characterized someone’s potential in to being a “mockingbird.” Harper Lee clearly sets up most characters as either a hero, or villain through unique ways without looking at a hero as “man with a gun” (112 Lee). Although, Atticus seems to be the claimed hero in the story, some other improbable heroes are evident such as, Arthur Radley and Mrs. Dubose. The actions they have done raises them into the unlikely hero status is also the one reason that hurts them so much. In “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Harper Lee portrays true heroes as people who persevere through hardships, even though they will suffer the consequences of their actions.

As Christopher Reeve, a famous actor, once said, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” This quote is basically saying when heroes face obstacles they never give up. They always find a way to push through, or conquer the obstacle. Or they find a way to get around it. They don't just turn around and forget about it.

It is during the hard times when the hero within us is revealed.” A hero is someone that helps and protects others while risking their lives or their freedom and also throwing away their peace. A true hero always show in difficult situations. Even though being a hero can be costly they choose to act as a leader and take action, while they never turn away from problems.

Bob Riley is an American author who once said , “Hard times don’t create heroes it’s during the hard times when the hero within us is revealed.” Heroes don’t have to be people that went through a difficult challenge and has a struggle in life , heroism is the people that aren’t giving up and persevere and strive to overcome things and go through the struggle and challenges that come toward them during the hard times. Hero’s are people that are willing to put others first , for example a hero is someone who helps other people and thinks of others and not just himself .and hero’s can be anyone not just soldiers or characters you see on tv, Heroism involves a person that understands the situation others are in.

What is the definition of a hero? When you hear the word “hero” you may think of Superman or Captain America. I believe that this is incorrect thinking. Heroes don’t need to be big and muscular and famous. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the word “hero” as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities”. One figure in my life that I believe meet those qualifications is Mrs. Wendy Hornik. She has helped me on my way to becoming what I’ve always wanted to be since I could read, a writer. Helen Keller was a woman who had gotten a sickness as a child and because of the sickness she became deaf, not only was she deaf though she also became blind. Despite these challenges she never gave up, she learned to communicate with others, earned college degrees, and wrote over a dozen books that inspired people. Many doubted her, but she never gave up, showing enormous amounts of perseverance. Another example would be Martin Luther King Jr. He was a very passionate and positive man who fought for equality among blacks and whites. Because of his dream of equal rights, he had to face many obstacles. While most would've given up, he took that obstacle and fought against it. Betty Friedan was a significant role model to women everywhere in the early 1960s when she first came out with her book, The Feminist. Friedan’s book inspired women everywhere to work with government leaders in order to earn equal pay, and to avoid employment discrimination. Friedan’s actions directly lead to the creation of The National Organization for Women (NOW). This organization fought to ensure equality for women everywhere. They did not start out too successful in the early 1960s, but by the end of the second year, they rounded up just about 1,035 members. The group tried to make their own Bill of Rights for women; it made sure to enforce the laws of banning employment discrimination; maternity leave rights; child care centers; tax deductions for child care expenses; equal and unsegregated education; and equal job-training opportunities

These difficult times show the level of a determined mentality they have about their hopes and dreams. Anyone who influences anyone else by saving or helping save his or her lives can be a hero. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. changed the lives of millions of people by bringing justice to minorities. Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest heroes, led a nonviolent revolution to free his country. Even a parent can be a hero to his or her child by leading them in the right direction. All teachers are heroes when they make it their job to teach a child anything that will help them in life. You don’t have to go to great lengths by risking your life to make a difference in someone else’s life.
