Bernie Monologue

I stood at my window, looking out at the cruel German soldiers. The Nazis. Jews, beaten, shot, killed... for no good reason. Why the Jews? Why just them? What’s wrong with them? One morning on my way to school, I stumble upon a rustle in the bushes beside me. I stop. I hear a faint, small cry. It is a young boy, about ten years old. I look into the bush
“What’s wrong?” I ask the boy.
“I’ve lost my family,” he cried “the Nazis took them away.”
“I’m so sorry… Who are you with?”
“No one, I ran away.”
“I’m not supposed to do this, but I can help you” I began “you can trust me.”
“Please don’t tell anyone. Please!”
“Listen, I shall provide you a bit of food and water each day I can. I will break my walk to school, and hand it over.” His name was Bernie. He was in. I did exactly what I’d told him. I brought him a piece of bread, and a small container filled with water. I met with him near a bridge, where he stayed underneath, hidden.
