a.) America created a border between Mexico and itself. It’s usually a large fence in heavily populated cities. The berlin wall in Germany was constructed to separate East Germany and West Germany. The “green line” was built in-between Palestine and Israel
b.) America was experiencing absurd amounts of illegal immigration from Mexico and citizens of other countries who traveled into Mexico to gain access to America. Many people in America oppose the idea because with illegal immigration, people believe there are fewer jobs available for the skilled legal citizens in America. During this time East Germany was under the Soviet Union, which was communist; the Soviet Union during the cold war era had many European countries in their union. Germany was split with eastern Germany being communist and western Germany being a federal republic of Germany. Many families were split when the boundaries between the two states were drawn so people typically immigrated out of Eastern Germany into Western Germany. Eastern Germany tried to stop their people from leaving by imposing the “iron Curtain”. The separation creates not only a physical wall but a metaphorical wall as well. The countries are ignoring the true problem and resorting to blocking it out, hence why the Berlin Wall was called the “iron curtain”. Social relations were also affected because families and friends could be on either side of the wall making it difficult to communicate or be with. Many people fled East Germany because they had family in West Germany, but when the wall was constructed, so relations were severed.
C.)ii) Building the physical wall between two regions requires workers and materials; the government spends a lot of money building, maintaining and protecting this wall. Many countries can’t afford this; it takes away money from other important government spending programs. Not only do they have to pay for the physical construction of the wall but they also have to pay for border control salaries and people to regulate the gates. For Example, the United States estimated that it 28 billion dollars per year just to finish and seal the Mexican border each
