Beowulf, the epic poem, about a courageous warrior who is a hero of the Danes. A constant theme that runs throughout the poem is Beowulf’s bravery and tremendous feats of strength. In each of the three major battle, Beowulf defies the odds, fighting against monsters in hand to hand battles, sometimes without any armor, with the belief that fate or the Gods will show favor to him as long as he is not afraid to die.
For twelve years, the Danes endured a demon that caused destruction against their men and Heorot. The news of terror in the Danes spreads to Geatland, and in little time, Beowulf and his men are dressed in armor ready to fight. Beowulf is already deemed a hero when he and his men show up the coast of Danes. Throughout the feast given

When she sees warriors coming at her with swords, she panics and takes Aeschere, Hrothgar’s friend with her to the swamp. Different from the first battle, when Beowulf and his men get to the swamp. Different from the first battle, when Beowulf and his men get to the swamp and see Aeschere's head lying on the ground, he dresses in his armor and carried his weapons. One of his men gives Beowulf Hrunting, a sword that never fails in battle. Rather than worrying about the magical, dark, burning lake water, and that even animals are afraid of the swamp. Beowulf also tells Hrothgar not to worry. Beowulf dives into the water and swims to the bottom which takes a whole day. When Beowulf finally reaches the bottom of the lake, Grendel’s mother waits for him at the bottom, his armor prevents her from crushing him, so she brings him to her court. Along the way monsters claw and grab at him, meanwhile Beowulf gets out Hrunting, and tries to cut off Grendel’s mother’s head off. When he sees that the sword will merely cut through her skin, he tries to fight with his hands, but does not match up to Grendel’s mother. He notices a sword against the wall, a huge sword made for giants, swings it at Grendel’s mother, and her head comes tumbling off, he also cuts off Grendel’s head for the pain he has caused. The swamp is no longer infested, and Beowulf spears Grendel’s head and brings it back to Heorot. The next day, Beowulf and his men must return to Geatland. When they return, his city gives treasure and land of his own for Beowulf to rule. The first and second battle most closely relate to the fact that it is based around Grendel. But the second battle justifies itself more than the first, after Beowulf kills Grendel, this puts Grendel’s mother in a revenge seeking state of
After Grendel goes back to his home he dies shortly. His mother furious seeked revenge on the man who killed her son. Grendel’s mother went to the mead hall one night and killed Hrothgar’s closest friend. Hrothgar eager to get rid of this monster calls once more upon Beowulf. Beowulf gears up in a mail shirt, his sword, and his helmet and heads to the Lake where the monster lives. He dives in the lake and is clutched by the monster. The monster trying to dig her claws into him couldn’t harm him. She then carried him sword and all to her home. She carried him to her home and there the battled in someone’s battle hall with monsters surrounding and attacking at Beowulf, but couldn’t harm him. Beowulf swung his sword at the monster but couldn’t cut her skin. Later in the battle he was running out of options then he saw a heavy sword on the wall hammered by the giants and cursed by their magic. He drew it up and took a swing with all the strength he had left. The sword cut through her skin, broke bones, and the monster fell to the
During the Anglo-Saxon era, the Anglo-Saxons were invaded by monsters and demons. In addition, the Anglo-Saxons were in search for a hero. That hero turned out to be the great Beowulf. Beowulf fits the characteristics of the ideal hero: he has superhuman strength, a desire for glory, and courage.
Beowulf has killed a lot of the king’s men he stands alone and alarmed ready to fight. “So the Spear-Danes in days by and the kings who ruled them had courage and greatness we have heard of the heroic campaign”. The Spear-Danes bravery/heroism was celebrated. Beowulf’s fight with Grendel shows off his true strength.
She gained the upper hand on Beowulf but his woven mail shirt saved him once again. He then seen a giant sword hanging on the wall hammered by giants and blessed with their magic and decapitated her head. He takes Grendel’s head as a trophy symbolizing Grendel ’s end on hunting humans. In his final battle Beowulf must face a mighty and dragon.
The epic poem Beowulf describes a famous hero of the Anglo-Saxon period. The hero Beowulf, is a seemingly unstoppable person with the inhuman traits required of a hero. He uses his courage and physical strength to put his people before himself. He encounters many monsters and rigorous
Beowulf is an epic poem written in Anglo-Saxon times, by an unknown poet. Beowulf is a Geatish man who rescues the Danish people from evil, and helps save his own country from destruction. Beowulf, renowned for his bravery, and known as the strongest man alive, acquires the help of fourteen thanes to sail with him to Denmark. There he is involved in two battles with two evil monsters. He then fights another battle in his homeland with a Fire dragon. Without violence in Beowulf, heroism would be impossible as evidenced by Beowulf’s battles with Grendel, his mother, and the Fire dragon. Beowulf first shows his heroic nature in the fight with Grendel. After all the men in the great hall of Heorot fall asleep, Beowulf
Another example where Beowulf showed immense physical strength that proved he was a good leader was during the battle with the dragon. It has been fifty years since that battle with Grendel’s mother and most people would argue that as someone continues to age the more weaker they become. This is not the case for Beowulf where due to his mortality, he actually becomes much stronger than he was during his youth. Beowulf demonstrated this physical strength during his battle with the dragon where he “swung up his hand, slashed the glittering horror / with his heirloom sword, so that the edge broke, / bright on bone-scales (Beowulf 2576-2578).” Even with aging, Beowulf proves that his strength is unmatched during his fight with the dragon where his strength was so great that when he swung his sword at the dragon it broke.
Beowulf wields his physical strength, just like a shield, to protect himself from his brethren’s lack of faith. Interestingly, that is what instigates his bravery and propels him to face any conflict head-on. Additionally, we can see that his strength has reached unrivalled measures “a hand grip harder than anything he had ever encountered in any man on the face of earth” (lines 750-752) and how it has managed to elevate his prowess “When he wielded a sword, no matter how blooded and hard-edged the blade his hand was too strong, the stroke he dealt (I have heard) would ruin it. He could reap no advantage” (lines 2684-2687)”.
In Beowulf’s story the vikings made him some sort of hero. They heard of his accomplishments and honored him like a king. They also put him in charge of solving their biggest problem with out any second thoughts, and it turned out well for them. He was their hero, later they even made him their king. He might have been a hero to them, but that was only because he solved their problem.
Beowulf is a story that has been told over thousands of years. Beowulf is the story of one of the greatest warriors known to man. Even the man who claims to be the best of them all has a weakness and has faced temptations. Beowulf's inability to control his lust for women, power, and pride is what continues the deconstruction of the kingdom. The curse continues to rampage through the village of the Danes due to man’s weakness.
Beowulf’s uncle is king of the Geats so Beowulf is sent to help rid the Danes of the evil Grendel. Beowulf risks his own life for the Danes, asking help from no one. He realizes the dangers but fears nothing for his own life. After Beowulf had served his people as King of the Geats for fifty years, he goes to battle one last time to fight a horrible dragon whom is frightening all of his people. Beowulf is old and tired but he fights the dragon in order to protect his people. Even in death he wished to secure safety for the Geats so a tall lighthouse is built in order to help the people find there way back from sea.
The night after Grendel is killed, his mother attacks Heorot, seeking revenge for her son, leaving them all in chaos. The following morning they all suit up and set off to find and kill Grendel’s mother. Grendel’s mother lives in a cave at the bottom of a mere, causing Beowulf to have to fight underwater. Beowulf suits up in all his armor and is offered a sword, Hrunting, by Unferth to fight with. As Beowulf dives into the mere to find Grendel’s mother, she senses a human observing her lair and attacks, grabbing Beowulf and dragging him to her
Beowulf, is a poem about Beowulf himself killing monsters, and other humans who are not doing right. This poem is the oldest poem in the English language that is still being used in the education programs today. Beowulf rips people’s arms off, kills five monsters, and goes to save the people of Herot. Throughout the play Beowulf's followers continue to praise him for all his accomplishments In the epic poem Beowulf, Beowulf shows how to get glory from people, how to complete a mission, and how to keep your strenght.
Beowulf’s first battle is against Grendel in an attempt to help King Hrothgar of Denmark and the Danes. The king builds a great mead-hall known as Heorot, where his warriors can gather to drink, receive gifts from their lord, and listen to stories sung by the bards. All the noise and commotion angers Grendel, who is a horrible demon that lives in the swamplands of the king’s kingdom. Grendel is an outcast who desperately wants to be a part of the Danes. He is bitter about being excluded from the mead-hall festivities. As a result of his jealousy and loneliness, Grendel terrorizes the Danes every night, killing them and defeating their efforts to fight back. The Danes live in fear, danger, and suffer death from Grendel for many, many years. Eventually, word of the kingdom’s suffering at the hands of Grendel reaches Beowulf. He feels inspired by the challenge of defeating the monster and decides to help the Danes. The king holds a big feast to celebrate Beowulf’s help,
