“A hero had to be strong, intelligent, and courageous” ( Garcia ). This quote tells what an epic hero is to another author besides Raffel who translated Beowulf. Beowulf is an epic hero for his bravery to fight three battles for another group other than his own, he has the traits of an epic hero, and he followed the hero cycle.
Beowulf fought three battles; the battle of Grendel, the battle of Grendel’s mother, and the battle against the dragon. Beowulf fought all these battles for the Danes and he was a geat . The Geats praised Beowulf for winning these battles. The king boasted about Beowulf’s bravery to save the Danes“as he’d boasted he’d serve them; Beowulf, A prince of the Geats, had killed Grendel,Ended the grief, the sorrow, the suffering Forced on Hrothgar’s helpless people” ( Raffel 53). …show more content…

Beowulf had many traits of an epic hero. “This can be proven by the fact that Beowulf does anything Hrothgar asks without any hesitation, such as the battles against Grendel and his mother” ( Yee Ling Lam). this quote tells how Beowulf was loyal to the king and how Beowulf would fight for the king if asked. “ Beowulf displays his great strength time after time.
