Beowulf was brave enough to risk his life to protect all the people in his village and the geats pretty much lost everyone’s respect because they chickened out and ran and left beowulf there to fight on his own. The thief was disloyal to his people and the dragon reeked havoc on the geats. After beowulf was dead the geats built a tower to honor the Greatest, bravest man alive that honored them and fought for them and they took his trust for granted. It took 10 days to build but the geats built a monument in his honor. After it was built all the silver and jewels were buried in the sandy Ground to be hidden. The twelve of the bravest geats rode there horses around the tower telling their sorrows and telling stories of their dead king and his greatness, his glory praising him for heroic deeds for a life as noble as his name “Beowulf:.

Beowulf was recognized as a hero in his own country for the countless battles he had. Now, Beowulf has been a great King to us and once he had heard of the attacks to his kingdom by a fire breathing dragon he knows that he must go to battle with this creature to save his people. Instead of sending warriors to battle for him because he’s older he decides he must go and fight the dragon himself. He knows it’s the only way to save his people from this dragon. He also realizes that it is his time to go and that the only noble way to die is in an epic battle. The only way he can have true honor is in combat. When they gather on the mountain with his men he tells them that he must go and defeat this dragon on his own for his people and that the gold that the dragon protects will be left for his people. He went to battle knowing that he will probably die going against this fire breathing dragon. He went anyways because he knew that it would save his people. He would leave everything he owns for his warriors and his people. Beowulf took on that dragon for a chance that we would save his kingdom from this horrifying creature. Beowulf is a true hero because he
Beowulf proclaims “In the blackness of night, hunting monsters out of the ocean, and killing them one by one; death was my errand and the fate they had earned. Now Grendel and I are called together” (liens 156-160). Beowulf claims that he must go to defeat Grendel, as it was his errand, or his duty, and his fate. This speech he makes to King Hrothgar reinforces his true reason to come to the King, not for any pride. Another vow Beowulf makes is when he says “That this is one favor you should not refuse me—That I, alone and with the help of my men, many purge all evil form this hall” (lines 163-166). In this line, Beowulf is pleading for the King to do one thing, which is to give him the permission for him and his men to go and fight Grendel, what Beowulf had arrived for. The fact that Beowulf asks the king for only one thing, which is to fight Grendel, shows Beowulf’s selflessness and concern for the safety of others. At no part does he ask for a reward, but even says that if fate is in favor of Grendel to give his armor back to his family. These words help paint the image of Beowulf being concerned for others, not for his
Beowulf was an immense poem about a courageous warrior - by the name of Beowulf. This warrior was brave and had a lot of confidence, which led him to act foolishly. The story of Beowulf begins with a short narrative of Shield Sheifson. Though he began as a foundling, he grew to be a great hero who was widely admired for his courageous actions and heroic achievements. During his funeral, the narrator states that “...they [Spear-Danes] stretched their beloved lord in his boat, laid out by the mast, amidships, the great ring-giver. Far-fetched treasures were piled upon him, and precious gear. I never heard before of a ship so well furbished with battle-tackle, bladed weapons and coats of mail. The massed treasure was loaded on top of him: it would travel far out into the ocean’s sway.” The decision to begin the story with Shield Shiefson was a way of introducing the theme of wealth and demonstrating the respect he received for his heroic achievements. The story goes on to tell of Beowulf’s adventures, as he takes on various challenges in an attempt to make a name for himself and gain wealth through heroic deeds. Before receiving his reward, Beowulf presented king Hrothgar with Grendel’s arm as proof of his victory during battle. After his second battle, he returned with Grendel’s head as well as the hilt of the magical sword he used to kill Grendel’s mother. Because the kings often rewarded his heroic deeds with treasure, Beowulf gained a great amount of wealth
