TTC, standing for Toronto Transit Commission is a public transport agency which benefits and transports 2.7 million people daily by using different vehicles and services in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Some citizens of Toronto argue how the TTC pollutes and makes the environment a horrid and dreadful place, while it is actually the opposite because the TTC can help reduce the environmental damage in the city, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and benefit Toronto to make it a safer, significant, and a convenient city.
The TTC uses many vehicles to support it, such as buses, subways, streetcars, and paratransit services to help people who need to go places in Toronto. Specifically, the TTC drives 2.7 million people daily. Those people include adults, elderly, and children. The TTC has a blue seating called the Priority Seating opposed to the ones who have disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women. The TTC is also very helpful and useful to many other people especially for the ones who do not have any vehicles or any type of transportation.

Without it, the TTC will be significantly dirtier, it will also emit more pollution followed by additional greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere than there already is. To prevent such pollution people should start by using the TTC because it will reduce the number of trips by car - which equals less greenhouse gas emissions. The atmospheric pollutants and gases caused by fuel being burnt are formed into a gas-like texture called smog. The Ontario Medical Association has calculated that 1 900 people die each year in the province because of the smog exposure. Therefore, the TTC is trying to make Toronto a cleaner place by reducing and preventing the environmental damage in the city. In 2011 TTC’s operating budget was 1.45 billion dollars and they did not get any subsidies from provincial and federal government and they are still providing best services to their customers without getting help from any outside sources. (Toronto Transit Commission, 2017) ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE: TTC’s culture is very welcoming and cooperative. They always put people’s safety first. They believe to work in teams. They have made managers and supervisors available at all times to solve problems of their workers as well as their customers.
The Greater Golden Horseshoe is one of the fastest growing areas in Canada and the third fastest in North America. Modes of transportation and congestion due to the mass growing population has put stress on many people within the area. Additionally, 100000 people and approximately 80,000 jobs will be created yearly for the next 20 years (Transportation, 2016). The GTA West Transportation Corridor is a new initiative for the Golden Horseshoe area that will be able to cope with the growth of the areas involved. Because of this widespread project, many stakeholders are involved and are going to be affected.
This document specifically highlights how the Gold Coast City Council is tackling the city’s issue of traffic congestion by improving the existing structure of the roads and public transport. Hopefully this will decrease the number vehicles on the road which will reduce the amount of carbon emissions into the atmosphere (City of Gold Coast, 2013).
The pollution is leaving our footprint rate out of control! Knowing that they have gotten rid of all the coal generators is a big reduction of the ecological footprint. Without the generators burning off the coal, the pollution will stay at a lower rate causing the footprint to decrease. It is more sustainable now than before because our city doesn't have to worry about trying to maintain the pollution levels as much as we used to and we can focus on more of the major projects.
Over the last few decades South-Central Ontario has progressed from a Toronto based employment industry to a large geographic region with numerous amount of economic activity centres, employment and population (Transportation development strategy report, 2012). Due to the high increase in urbanization and urban sprawl, there is a high travel demand that is very dispersed throughout the GTA. Future population and employment growth in major urban centres will result in an increase in travel demand for both local communities and movement of goods between the areas located within the Golden Horseshoe (Transportation development strategy report, 2012).

Toronto must further improve its public transit system. Firstly, improving transit reduces commute time as well as the amount of cars that are on the road. Secondly, people depend on public transit so an improvement would be a great convenience for many people. Lastly, the improvement of public transit will create less pollution in Toronto.

Public transportation use in the United States saves 4.2 billion gallons of gasoline annually and households near public transit drive an average of 4,400 fewer miles than households with no access to public transit. The town of Halton Hill’s population includes the areas of Georgetown and Acton and other communities such as Erin, Oakville, Burlington and Milton regions. This is what is considered to be my community because these are the many places that I am visiting most often and they are always referred to together as “Halton Hills Region” (p.5, 2011). With the substantial increase in population in the Halton Hills region, more specifically Georgetown, there should be a strong demand for a public transit system to counteract all of the environmental disturbances that are being caused due to this increase. One of the things that is happening is that there are so many trees they are cutting down in order to expand and grow the population with houses being built. Statistics are showing that the population of Halton Hill’s region will expand by 54% over the next 20 years (p.5, 2011). By the year 2031, employment rates will increase by 75%, leaving Halton with 42,100 jobs being offered (p.5, 2011). With this rapid influx of citizens, this will only increase the demands of travel to get to these work places as well as other destinations (p.5, 2011). Over the past couple of year’s the traffic congestion on the major roads in Halton Hills such as Trafalgar Road and Regional Road 25 with individuals trying to get to and from work. There used to be very little traffic in these areas, however since Halton Hill’s has continued to expand, the utilization of automobiles has significantly increased due to the fact there is no public transit system. The Transportation Demand Management in Halton Hill’s is noticing the increase in automobiles stating that there needs to be a major shift in more efficient ways of transportation, yet there still has been nothing improvised (p.7, 2011). The money goes towards building an efficient mass transit system that gives about 4 million rides a day, and it makes car buyers think twice before purchasing a vehicle that is going to cost them a fortune (Source B). Although the idea of using the money to build a mass transit system seems controversial to reducing air pollution, mass transportation, such as Singapore’s, actually emits about 62 percent less pollution per passenger mile compared to a single operating vehicle, according to the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). Trans Canada Trail is working as hard as possible to provide the ability to bike across the country for Canada's 150th birthday . They are creating bicycle paths (1)for Canadians to ride on , spanning from (2)coast to coast . So far , the Great trail is 87% finished . Their goal is to have the great trail fully connected in 2017 which is the 25th anniversary of the trail . Most of the bike paths are already in use , but there is still 3,200 kilometers left of rural and difficult terrain to complete until it is fully connected .
If the public transportation improves, more and more people would take buses instead of driving. Then there would be less CO2 for our environment. Therefore, in order to solve the problem, improving public transportation is a good solution. This study shows that driving cars really causes air pollution and it is harm for our environment. Phoenix is the largest city in Arizona, so the population growth in Phoenix will lead to the same problem that the three author mentioned. Improving public transportation will be helpful in decreasing the number of drivers and therefore reducing toxic emission. It also shows that public transportation can help to reduce air pollution. Phoenix is an urban city like Brasilia, so it has a similar situation. Although many people argue that the Greater Toronto Area is congested, competitive, and expensive, benefits of connectivity, strong educational system and opportunity outweigh the disadvantages. Having the ability to live within a forty-five kilometre distance of Toronto is what the Greater Toronto Area is about.
Transportation in the region has a long and successful past. However, public transportation has consistently taken a back seat to the personal automobile. There has been a strong core of persons who rely on public transportation to achieve mobility, and governmental
