Ben Atherton-Zenman writes about the harassment many women receive online. This can range from rude comments, to emails containing rape threats. For this to stop, men will need to step up and assist the women in stopping these hurtful comments. We can no longer sit back and watch people get harassed online. It is time for everyone to step up, and end this. I was sickened reading this. Who send rape threats? Especially ones that say stuff like “I’m going to rape you and your mother.” People are disgusting. If they think this is how you handle though situations, they are completely out of their mind. I just read a story a few weeks ago about a woman who was raped after her date found out she worked at an abortion clinic. The woman’s name
On 4th August, 1914 our “Mother Country”, Great Britain declared war on Germany after the country invaded neutral Belgium. Australia, a country which is over 9000 miles away, almost instantaneously got in support of Britain. Within 6 months, over 52,000 Australians had enlisted to join the war; which is a mere 6% of Australia’s eligible fighting men in that time. Each of our Australian soldiers had their own motives. Whether it be: men looking to make money; brave, young men pursuing adventure; or the fear of being accused as a coward.
Bowman believes it is a grand issue that needs attention and help from the judiciary. Bowman gives her feminist perspective as she believes women are simply victimized by walking on the street. She gives examples of how men speak vulgarly to women and women have to put up with street harassment when alone. As men harass women they take away women’s freedom of privacy and make women believe they’re better off at home rather than out in public.
"If you must wish, wish for something sensible." The sergeant major says this knowing the horrible things that can go wrong. Things definitely go wrong. "The Monkey's Paw" by W.W. Jacobs is a horror story because, it has suspense, a monster, and supernatural happenings.
This book review is on the book, Men Explain Things to Me by Rebecca Solnit, which was published in 2014. Rebecca Solnit writes a book of essays that interprets the silence that women hold towards men in their everyday life. Young women must know the reality that we do not live a fairy tale life where women are treated as royalty by their husband or boyfriend. Women are treated as objects in where men could play with them as if they are dolls, whom they pay attention to whenever they would like to or need something from them. Despite what a woman says to men, all men are always going to have the reason, even if they are not right. The silences that a woman holds towards men are creating an even broader issue towards women in the present and in the future. The author mainly argues that women should not silence themselves and their issues such as abuse, harassment, rape, violence, stalking or any other crimes that are hurting them emotionally and physically. “Violence doesn’t have a race, a class, a religion, or a nationality, but it does have a gender” (Solnit, Men Explain Things to Me, page 21). If women continue not to speak up and take action, men are going to continue to take abuse and control over their power.

Did you know that females are more likely to be cyberbullied, compared to girls? Most people, nowadays, have access to the internet, which makes it easier people to cyberbully others. Only 15.1% of British teachers have been a victim of cyberbullying, with the other 84.9% not being a victim. An assistant Secretary of Civil Rights has noticed that there are many forms of harassment. Schools should take more action when it comes to any type of bullying off school grounds. This is making people wonder if schools should be more restrictive to the student’s online speech freedom.
On October 15th of this year, actress Alyssa Milano, started a trend on twitter for women to write “me too,” in order to reflect the extent of sexual assault. This became a trend taking over all social media, showing the vast majority of women who have had a sexual assault experience. In response to this, writer, journalist, and LGBTQ activist, Benjamin Law wrote on twitter, “Guys, it’s our turn. After yesterday’s endless #MeToo stories of women being abused, assaulted and harassed, today we say #HowIWillChange.” To which he followed up with ways in which he will help be an ally to women, like reporting his friends for sexual assault if it came up. Benjamin Law is an example of someone who understands that the solution to this issue is not blaming other men, but to focus on how he could
There are many people who believe pregnancies are a miracle and a blessing, but too often women become victims of sexual assault, which at times result in unwanted pregnancies (Stewart 1). Despite the fact many women choose to go through with their pregnancies, other women turn to abortions as a solution to leave the traumatic experience in the past. However, not all women who choose to terminate their pregnancies are victims of sexual assault, as many young couples become pregnant and choose this path because they feel they are too young
Ann was date-raped when she was only 17 years old and found out she was pregnant. Her parents pressured her into marrying her current boyfriend, or the date-rapist, to prevent family embarrassment and keep him out of jail. Ann’s boyfriend was told that beating her would cause a therapeutic abortion, so Ann was subjected to horrid treatment including throwing her against walls and choking her. When Ann left her boyfriend, she was not allowed to get an abortion, and her baby was born with extreme brain damage. She says “A simple legal abortion would have spared me so much anguish, so much torment and suffering… What was gained by laws that kept me pregnant against my will? Nothing, except the rapist got away with his crime”(Ann’s Story 1). Abortion is a highly debated topic which involves the termination of a pregnancy to best suit a mother’s situation. A fetus is comprised of sperm and eggs, which are most of the time disposed of naturally. A fetus, however is not a human being with rights until it is outside of the womb. Abortions must remain legal because women should be able to have control of what they do with their bodies, there is a difference between religion/ beliefs and law, and abortion is inevitable so keeping it legal would be safer.
In the article “How Trolls Are Ruining the Internet,” by Joel Stein, Stein asserts that Internet culture has changed, and not in a respectable way. At one point in time, the Internet was a friendly place that was focused on information being available for everyone. Now, it’s a cold, unwelcoming place to those who seek out personal help. People often harass others whenever they seek out assistance that isn 't fact-based.
Since I was a little kid my parents taught me that this world is divided into two groups: The first group is the people who always do good and barely sin or offend others, the second group is the evil people who always want to hurt others and make them suffer. They told me that it’s extremely difficult to change someone’s characteristics after growing up in a certain way and acting either with kindness or hatred towards other people. I had been convinced with this idea until I read about the Stanford Prison Experiment. In his article, Doctor Zimbardo talks about an experiment he conducted that demonstrated how normal people would react when they are put in jail. 9 students were playing the guard's role and 9 students were playing the prisoner’s
Rape related pregnancies requires further studying as it is a significant issue and requires more attention. To date there is a lack of empirical research showing how many women choose to terminate rape related pregnancies but studies remain showing that on average 1% of women who terminate their pregnancy is due to rape (SOURCE 4, 6, 8). Though research on terminating rape-related pregnancies is understudied, there is a vast amount proposing that women who seek to terminate their pregnancy as a result of rape do so later than those who were not raped (1, 2, 4) As discussed earlier, rape is an underreported crime. With an average of 1 in 3 women seeking post assault medical care, abortion may be the first time women with rape-related pregnancies access care after an assault (source

Harassers can do a lot more than just physically hurt their victims. The embarrassment, shame, anxiety and other emotional problems that inevitably occur from being sexual harassed is disturbing and infuriating. Sexual harassment occurs anywhere a person could go; is that not a scary thought to people, especially women, everywhere? Knowing this statement is true makes sexual harassment an injustice that needs to be stopped.
