Being An Outsider Essay

“Fear has two meanings-forget everything and run or face everything and rise. The choice is yours”(Quotations and Quotes). Johnny Cade chose to forget everything and run, but soon realized running didn’t help him forget the past. In The Outsiders, Johnny goes through the heroic journey by the fact that he faces a harsh reality that brings him to committing an act he never thought he would, which in the end led him to becoming a hero. His story starts with tragedy and ends with it as well. The tragedy he faced, gave him strength.

What exactly is an outsider? Does it apply to an individual or does it apply to the world? Is the principle a positive or a negative concept? An outsider is an individual who does not “fit” into society or isolates themselves from the rest. “The Outsiders” is a novel written based on the author, S.E Hinton’s, high school years in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The book is mainly about the division between the greasers and the Soc. The Soc is higher class and rich, but the greasers are the opposite. The reason why she wrote this novel is that she found the social situation in her school purely ridiculous and she was upset by this. Usually, in these types of situations, the majority will choose a side between the greasers and the Soc because

Outsiders are people who feel or are left out, lonely, and made fun of. The question is are outsiders just simply misunderstood and misjudged. The answer is yes. There is no such thing as an outsider. The people who are classified as outsiders are just misunderstood due to some kind of reasons. One of them may include society just doesn't accept different people. Another reason would be they haven't expressed themselves to others. One last reason is other people have different expectations.

An outsider can be a person who does normally not fit in with the people around them, acknowledging that they are unique and special in their own way. Another way an outsider can be looked at as is “a person not belonging to a particular group, set, party, etc.” (Dictionary.com). With there being different meanings to the word outsider an actual outsider can be timid and absent to the people around them or they can be outspoken and persistent by any means necessary.

Have you ever felt uncomfortable? Do you feel like an outsider? Myself, being an outsider, has made me realize society does not appreciate the reasons why we are different. We need to embrace who we are and celebrate what makes us an individual. As high school and college students, many feel pressured into being accepted such as being religious and also being pressured into being in an unhealth relationship such as an age gap.

What is an outsider? An outsider is a person who is not excepted by or is isolated by society. Have you ever been an “outsider”? Everyone experiences a situation where they weren’t able to fit in. The feeling of not being able to fit it is universal. Not everyone is the same and in certain situations you may not be able to bond with everyone. Everyone is focused on being judged or being the person who is judging someone. If you are not like everyone in your society group, those people don’t except you. Nowadays our society feels that if you aren’t up to people’s expectations, you are known to be an “outsider”. Being an outsider is universal because not everyone is social, not everyone can afford nice things and not everyone is popular.

An outsider is someone who stands out from the crowd. They have their own beliefs, their own way or thinking. Standing out is often thought of in a negative way, but it can bring along many positive things. During the time period of Martin Luther King Jr., there were many protestors who began to stand up for themselves and their race. Even though many people did it, there were only a few people who started the movement, and those people, were outsiders. Two people who were outsiders from that time period were Jackie Robinson and Rosa Parks. They stood against normal beliefs and tried to change the way of life, which is what many outsiders do. An outsider is not simply someone who is misjudged or misunderstood.

Throughout our readings this semester, the theme the outsider has been present. The outsiders in these selections have all had similar roles. One of the main roles was subjection that developed from the feeling of unequal standings. This subjection silenced and forced many from the mainstream.

An outsider is defined as “a person who does not belong to a particular group.” In the book, The Outsiders, many of the characters can be described as being an outcast from the social society. Ponyboy, Johnny, and Cherry are outsiders in this novel because none of them really fit into the groups that they’re “supposed” to be in.

It is not uncommon to be an outsider. If you push yourself to experience new situations in novel settings, you wind up around strangers quite often. Fortunately, most strangers are welcoming of newcomers, as such I do not feel uncomfortable simply when in an unfamiliar situation. Occasionally, people are not welcoming to newcomers, and erect high barriers to inclusion. Thankfully, most of the groups which I have found myself a part of were quite inclusive, made of mature and diverse individuals.

At this meeting, I was an outsider looking in. Which is something I am not used to being, I associate myself with clubs and organizations where I am the majority. Being an outsider in an unfamiliar place, with unfamiliar faces was a little challenging. And for some reason, all I could think about is how the people I am viewing and judging view me. During the meeting, I was not the majority but the oddball, there was no one there who looked like me or talked like me, I was all alone. And that's how my population, that black community here at Appalachian State feels. During our daily lives, we have to conform to the dominant group, we are always on our “P’s and Q’s” trying to fit in with the majority, trying to make them feel

No matter where one goes on this dismal chunk of rock, one will probably encounter an outsider. In high school lunchrooms there is always at least one poor, sad teenager who has the unlucky seat next to the trash can. In parks and school playgrounds there is always that one melancholy kid that provides a stark contrast from the joyful shouts and screams coming from the other playing children. The experience of being an outsider is an inescapable universal condition that can be caused through social class, appearance, or other factors.

Being alone had it’s advantages, no one bothered me, I could read in peace, listen to my favorite bands, and play my Rpg games to my heart 's content. Loneliness, something that a majority of people experience in a lifetime for many reasons. It can lead one’s own psyche to be conflicted to the world. This was all based on speculation of course. There’s no proof that my judgment is correct, nor can it be proven false either. It truly just depends on the person and who they associate themselves with.

First, there are several types of outsider based on different reasons. A person who decides to take himself away from the society, or one who different from most people can be said to be an outsider. a person not belonging to a particular group, set, party, etc. An outsider can also mean someone who is not within boundary or enclosure. “a person not belonging to a particular group, set, party, etc.” (OutsiderDictionary.com. Web. Pg.1). Though the dictionary has already described what an outsider meant, an outsider can also be when one is trying really hard to succeed at a particular thing but is having difficulty doing that; like in the case of a student who is having difficulty in passing a course while most of the students seem to be having no problem with the class. Such student can be said to be an outsider. While this is the case for students, a homeless is said to be an outsider too.
