I believe that it is a good thing if a law enforcement officer is a Christian. First of all, genuine Christians who obey God’s commandment and live a Godly life are protected by God. Secondly, I believe that a God-fearing police officer can help the citizens who he or she interacts with change their life for the better. If police officers use their Christian spirit when they pull a car over or arrest someone, their humbleness and belief in God can truly influence a person to get their life on track. This is because most Christians are gentle, kind, loving, and they want to see other people start to follow the word of God. As a Christian law enforcement officer, a person could pray with someone before escorting them to jail and his or her prayer can give that person a new outlook on life. If a person can see that not all cops just want to arrest them and meet a quota, then their attitude about law enforcement as a whole will change for the better. …show more content…
From my own experience as a detention deputy, I find myself ministering to the inmates that are housed at the facility that I am employed at. For instance, before a person posts bail, I tell them to have a plan. Also, I let them know that no matter how many obstacles they have faced in their life, God steel loves them and wants them to succeed. On the other hand, I have witnessed some officers say disrespectful things to people incarcerated such as “You will be back.” Statements like that are not of a Christian mindset and will only push a person to continue the negative life-style that he or she is already
Only credible concerns should be addressed, and the little things should not be tolerated. Inmates are protected by the first, fourth, and eighth amendments. Amendments which keeps correctional officers from violating an inmates’ freedom of religion, privacy, and due process (“due process is the rights of people suspected of or charged with crimes” Bohm & Haley, 2011 pg.96) during incarceration. Inmates should not be treated like animals however; strict programs are definitely in order when it comes to rebuilding negative thinking and
Throughout history, there has been very few careers that require such a high degree of an ethical standard such as the one required for law enforcement. There is, however, a multitude of careers that require the dedication and heart such as required for a police member. Where this dedication and heart differs relies solely on the difference in the job. Officers are required to be aware of their surroundings nearly all the time as if something were to happen they would be required to navigate through the situation successfully. Somebody such as a CEO for a multimillion dollar company would not require this same quality due to the fact it is not part of their job description and the only individual that he/she needs to be worried about is themselves. However, in today’s society, and with media being an ever growing aspect, some police officers have decided on their own personal way to handle justice. So unfortunately, this small percentage of police contract a huge amount of negative eyes to the profession. This small number of individuals bring a negative view to the police department as a whole and for this cause an issue in the public’s eye. Regardless of what many individuals believe, many of the police officers decide on the ethical side of the job and are hardworking professionals who seek out to just serve the public. However, being an African American male myself the main issue I have and want to combat is the punishment officers should face if
The officers might be harmed by getting removed from their jobs and they might not have other opportunities to generate revenue. If they have a family, the family could be harmed as a result of the loss of income. The moral agent's reputation may be harmed by the negative label if they decide to pursue other jobs in law enforcement.
Law enforcement officers have many duties. Law enforcement officers are sworn to serve and protect society as well as to fight crime. They also maintain order within their jurisdiction, as well as providing other services that the community will benefit from. Most of the time, police officers are considered to be crime fighters, in which this image has been brought to citizen’s attention by the media. The styles of policing should match the community in which they serve, so there is no conflict between the community and the law enforcement officer. The future policing structure does have a huge impact socially, economically, and
Police officers are in a very dangerous environment each and everyday. Think about the dangers that you could stumble upon working with criminals, armed angry people, drunk, high
Religion can influence how a law enforcement officer conducts him or herself. However, faith can influence their actions, but when dealing with controversial situations, an officer, regardless of personal opinion, should conduct themselves in a manner which is respectful and honorable to their department and all parties involved.
Today in society the view of police officers varies from person to person, but here is the central idea and responsibilities of what officers are supposed to be viewed as. They are those who play a central peacekeeping role in our cities/ communities. Their purpose in the government is to protect and serve and to deliver criminals into the hands of the law. Police are responsible for catching criminals who threaten the livelihood, property and peace of other citizens. However, lately some police officers becoming the criminals more and more. Some people might say in the past police were a symbol of authority and power in a neighborhood for people of all ages, backgrounds and races. Many criminals are deterred from committing foul actions if
Pillar one references to building a bridge which joins the community and law enforcement together. Building trust and legitimacy between police and citizen play a fundamental role in the law enforcement agencies as well as the communities they serve. Many studies have shown and proven that people/citizens will uphold the law/s of the country when the ones who have the authority to enforce the law are proven to be legitimate. Law enforcement officer will not gain the trust of the people/ community if they are view as controlling and corrupted. The community on a whole wish for a guardian rather than a warrior within the police force. The mindset of all police officer should be to gain the trust and legitimacy within their community. To build
During the duration of my college education I plan on taking classes that would help me attain a career in law enforcement. I have chosen to pursue in this career path because I've always relish what police officers and lawyers have accomplished in the world. While still following the appointed laws they also help people in a verity of ways like getting people of perilous situations, while they also in ways shape the minds of the future. It's a considerable amount of satisfaction to be able to partake in a widespread impact towards the community. While the police are protecting the society there are selected group of people who have an astronomical passion for helping people understand and obtain their constitutional rights. As a person who appreciates both professions, I hope that someday I will
There are few professions in the United States that are entrusted with protecting society’s safety and system of laws that have been established throughout the course of American history. One of those professions is that of a police officer. It is an admirable calling for an individual to deal with criminals and place themselves in harm’s way on a daily basis. It is certainly not a job that can be done by everyone and
People see the issue of the police using force from many different aspects. Depending upon ones upbringing, exposure to police authority, and real-life experiences, a person’s belief will have prejudice. I know that I certainly am. I pray to God every day that my father comes home from his patrol safely. I saw him every day of my life put on his bullet proof vest, and yes, put his gun on his hip to go to work. A bad day at work for him is more than a meeting gone badly or budget issues. Somebody loses a life. I hope that no officer has to pay the ultimate sacrifice, nor should they go through the trauma of having to make the split second decision to take a life.
No matter where law enforcement officers are they should maintain their professionalism. For instance, it does not make a good impression on the public if an officer is off duty and out with his buddies at a bar getting drunk and belligerent. If other patrons know he?s a police officer, it damages his reputation and public image as well as the department he works for. Police should also always be careful of what they say. You never know who could be listening. Perhaps a co-worker?s wife stopped in at the department store for something and another officer made crude comments that were over- heard by the wife. Not only is an incident like that downright rude and unprofessional, it could also be interpreted as harassment. Police officers must realize that they are expected by the community to maintain a level of integrity that others are not held to. This off-duty behavior could be misread as the officer being insincere about his job when on duty.
To a majority of society, law enforcement officers are viewed as the protectors of society. Due to the fact that officers provide a service to the community they could be placed in a position
Becoming a police officer is not just a choice one makes, but in actuality a life decision. Officers must make sure they follow morals as well as the code of ethics. No matter if you’re an officer that patrols the city streets night after night, or an officer patrolling school grounds or malls, you’re still important. Everyone feels a sense of comfort when they know they are safe.
Police officers take an oath to protect and serve the community. The community looks to police as a leader. I believe leaders set the standards, so police officers should be held to higher standards than the general public. Police officers are considered to be at the top of the organization chart. A wise saying states, “If the head (brain) is not working correctly the other parts of the body is lost.” The police are considered to be the head and the community is the other part. How could they enforce the laws that have been set by the government if they had no ethics and morals? There would be complete turmoil through the country.
