Having the ability to know what the body consists of and how it functions. This will help with reading a patients chart and knowing what codes to use for services provide to the patient. Anatomy & Physiology which is the structures of the body and how they work. You have to know pharmacology which is what pharmacy workers need to know when disbursing medication. You have to know Pathophysiology which is diseases and how they work. This is good for an MRT person to know so that they know how to interpret when it shows up on a patients chart. I am very familiar with medical coding and understand how it is used because I worked in the medical field for many years, and I used those codes for much of that time. At my last job, I helped with the billing for some time, did the insurance referrals for several years and got the insurance pre-authorizations/pre-approvals
Train the physician, the physician assistant, and the billers to recognize key elements: ICD 10 codes, CPT codes, and verify correct patient’s demographics: name, address, and provider’s and insurance Group #/member ID #, address, phone numbers etc.
In order for a patient’s insurance claim to go through correctly, you (as a medical assistant) need to code correctly. In the medical field coding is used to identify diagnoses patient’s have and services provided for them. The codes are then submitted to the patient’s insurance company, so the patient does not have to pay full price for services.
As a Reimbursement Assistant, I made tons of phone calls to major insurance companies on behalf of the physicians’ network for inquiries on payment disputes. In the claims’ system I provided information, per the calls, for the Analysts to figure out the next steps to resolve the payment disputes. Other duties in the Reimbursement position included: filling out claim readjustments; updating excel spreadsheets; and checking claim status through insurance companies’ websites. In the role of Teacher Assistant (as a graduate student), I sent emails to students for class updates and setup time for tutoring sessions. The professor wanted students to have access to different journal articles. I scanned the articles into pdf files and made them available
Computer literacy skills are also valued especially those with fast typing skills and mastery of Microsoft office, excellent communication skills, and knowledge of general healthcare and medical terminologies is vital. If you have experience with medical billing and coding, this will be an added advantage to you.
Time flows like a river and you find yourself not thinking the way you used to as a child. As I grew older, my dreams and goals changed as well as my mindset on how to achieve those aspirations. Mercyhurst University’s Public Health Program is the main step toward helping me achieve my career goal of becoming a Registered Health Information Technician. I’d like to define success as many achievements and accomplishments, as well as the coming of knowledge for that which was unknown to one’s self. Therefore, there should never be an ending to a success story. It was when I graduated as a medical assistant that sparked the realization to what field I was most interested in.
According to Wikipedia Meditech (Medical Information Technology) “is a medical software based company located in Massachusetts. The company was founded by Neil Pappalardo in 1969.” The company was founded when Mr. Pappalardo graduated from MIT and while he was there he created a software/program which we would later referred to as MUMPS. MUMPS later became the industry standard language for most of the software used in medical field. He started his company MEDITECH out of curiosity when he saw that the medical field has too many errors when it came to handling paperwork’s in the industry. The focus of this paper is going to be on the HER software that Meditech is using on their end. Since Mr. Pappalardo worked on the software back in 60s
I believe that a career in the medical field will be most rewarding for me because I have a personal desire to help others and the medical field is one of the few areas of consistent job expansion. I am sincerely ready to meet the demands and take on the challenge of becoming a Radiology Technician and a Registered Nurse. After completing my education, my goal is to become involved in medical missionary work around the country. The networking opportunities offered by RCTC will put me in a competitive position for these spots and allow me the opportunity to meet employers in a relatively small niche in my chosen field.
MEDICAL CODING QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATION Medical Coding is a career in which professionals use numeric and alphabetic codes to help submit and process medical claims. The coder abstracts information from the patient records and combines that information with coding guidelines to assign the right code for the information provided by physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare professionals. Insurance companies look at these codes to understand the diagnosis, treatment, and prescriptions for proper payment of these services. Accordingly, the medical coding profession requires a worker to have a strong grasp of numbers and be detailed oriented. (AC Search & Media, Inc.)
One example is recognizing conditions that may affect a certain region of the body, such as a patient being diagnosed with rhinosinusitis and was prescribed a two-week regimen of antibiotics. From the medical report, the biller/coder must be able to apply proficient knowledge of medical terminology. The coder should be able to break down the medical term rhino-sinus-itis. The anatomy for rhino is nose, the physiology of the nose is the lined membranes which is sinus and the condition is (-itis, the inflammation of). Understanding the basic body function enables the biller/coder to translate the provider’s medical documentation for correctly coding and billing. The diagnosis code was always the same for each billing would be for the initial evaluation of a new patient outpatient or billing and coding for an established patient

Other healthcare organizations have integrated the design of healthcare technologies within the organization. For such organizations, the CIO takes part in the analysis and assessments of the proposed healthcare information technology (HIT) applications. The CIO further manages the development, design and implementation of the HITs. In addition, healthcare organizations are rapidly acquiring HITs. Therefore, there is an increasing need to train the healthcare staff to ensure they can use the systems. The CIO, therefore, plans and supervises the development of training methods for the management and technical staff on the use and possible maintenance of the HITs (Tan, Payton, & Tan, 2010).

A strategy for health care organizations to train providers in using technology in healthcare will be Role-based training. My training plan is for patient lookup function which to me would be hands on training. For maybe few patients that can’t look up information on a computer a training program would be beneficial for them. There needs to be a complete understanding of the information system in order to look up information. To me patient looks up function can mean the patient can look up information or what it probably means is that information system programmer can look up all the information system programmers can look up. All the information needed for that patient and what sort of treatment they have had and any other information for their quality care.
