In Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, Amy Chua stresses the fact that practice makes perfect and if her daughters take breaks, they will fall behind. I agree whole-heartedly with her and this statement because with lots of practice, you are able to perfect what you are doing and make it great. On the other hand, if you are not practicing, you are just setting yourself up for failure. In her book, Chua states, “In the words of Lulu’s violin teacher Mr. Shugart, ‘Every day that you don’t practice is a day that you’re getting worse’” (Chua 94). This quote goes on to prove that without practice, you are not getting any better, but when you do practice, you will improve your skills and succeed. Another example as to why I agree with this comes
Practice makes perfect. It is one of the most famous and true quotes. In the Duracell advertisement for Derrick Coleman, a deaf football player. It is said that Coleman had worked hard and practiced on his playing. Each practice he found ways to improve, and now he is in the Seahawks team with many fans. In the article, “What It Takes to Be Great” by Geoff Colvin, he states that Winston Churchill, one of the 20th century’s greatest orators,

Although this statement is simple it has a lot of meaning behind it. For instance, players often feel that they can slack off because there will always be practice tomorrow but that is time wasted today. It has been shown in several studies that those individuals who put more hours in practicing are typically better in that particular discipline. For example, violin players that put in 10,000 hours of practice are considered to be the greatest whereas those who put in 6,000 hours of practice are only average. Time makes a difference in being good versus being
This quote is found in first part of the book in chapter two. I chose this quote because this relates to me, if I put effort and hard work I can do. Just like if Pi he did not any put effort he would have not become a good swimmer but he did same with me even if it is towards my academics or extracurricular, you still have put the same time and effort no matter what you are doing you can accomplish with right mindset. Also, I know that it is hard work but in the end you will be glad that you put effort and time. When I compete for anything I want to give 100% whatever I am doing.
Several years ago, Amy Chua’s book: Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother has triggered a lively debate about the strict parenting style. In the book, it is mentioned that Chua sets rules and restrictions, such as no sleepovers, practising music instruments every day, etc. As a result, her daughters achieve excellent grades in schools (Goodin ¶2-3). Chua’s parenting style is categorized as authoritarian. In Hong Kong, Chua’s style is popular. Parents put a lot of pressure on their children. Starting from primary level, children are asked to attend extra tutorials. From the parents’ eyes, “Practice makes perfect”. Hence, children will become more competitive. However, westerners oppose her methods. Some believe that giving no freedom to children is not conducive to one’s academic performance.
Practice makes perfect. This statement directly relates to chapter 1 and 2 in “What the Best College Students Do,” by Ken Bain. Throughout the chapters, Bain provides examples of successful people, studies, and tools to support his idea that learning surpasses grades and other awards in the scheme of life. To accomplish the skill of learning, students must possess determination, intrinsic motivation, and a passion.
Not only is this quote important but it can be relevant to many things we live through and foresee daily. For example, if one is trying to achieve a certain fitness goal, it is not the brightest outlook to just select a very far-fetched goal and not track small points of progress beforehand. In fact, if one was to do such a thing, it would be rather challenging since frustration and injury would occur before one could even see any results since the results are not being analyzed closely enough.
Whether it was from you Coach or Teacher, this statement is very accurate. If you’ve always thought of yourself as dumb, clumsy or non-artistic you should think again because as the saying implies you can always improve if you are hardworking and conscientious. Recent studies have shown that the brain grows more when you learn something new, and less when you practice things you already know. For instance, when you are attempting challenging math problems you are allowing the dendrites and neurons to grow and strengthen certain parts of your brain. This cannot be attained by just completing the simple problems and skipping over the difficult ones. Math can become easier to anyone if they practice it the right way. It may become difficult at one point but if you continue within time it will become relatively
This quote means that even when you try agin it still may fail, but through failing you become better. A time I have failed, but have failed better was when I was trying to read a book, but I would have to start over because I would not read it for a few days, and forget what would happen in the first half of the book. Now I read when I have down time, but sometimes I
What does it mean to be American? The American identity has always been a complicated discussion. It is by nature identified by diversity. Many think it has to do with the birthplace of the person and others think it has to do with their inheritance. In 2011, Amy Chua published Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother as a memoir. Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother presents the evolution of this American woman. The elements of Chuas evolution seemed to involve; native identity; inherited identity; resisted identity and resolved identity.
This quote has always been inspiring in my life. I believe learning is not limited to just the classroom but takes places through out our life. Right education not only enhances personal development and social inclusion, but also increases competitiveness.
If you train hard, you'll not only be hard, you'll be hard to beat. This quote means many things to me. It means that you cannot just go out on the field or mat and expect to win without any training. Practice is the most important part of any competition. If you don't practice, then you will not know what to do and you will lose.
One reason why the story, The Child by Tiger, is so plausible is because of the story’s setting. The physical setting that the author has portrayed helps you fully understand the emotions that his character are feeling. In 1912 the blacks had little to no rights, they lived in little shacks that had no electricity or nearly enough room in them for every family member that occupied the shack. They had one communal phone that was located in the only grocery store they had, they had a drugstore, barber shops and poolrooms. Everything was located on Gulley Street, which was almost like Broadway to the African Americans. Gulley Street then turned into South Dean that lead to the Square on the white side of town.
Every chance my Dad got he would tell me the most famous saying in sports “You have to practice like you play” and looking back now, that is the first lesson I was taught. If you truly believe in that quote then you can apply it to everyday life. It taught me to never over look something, to always go into everything you do prepared. Whether it is on a test at school or a presentation at work.
This quote is important because it reflects on the way you act about a situation if you don’t feel like trying you won’t go far in whatever you're doing. People should always say this quote in there mind as there doing something that requires ingenuity and willpower. Everyday you See your favorite athletes out there playing their hearts out and you wonder “how are they so good”? Well they train and before they wake up they send a little spirit in their mind whether it's this quote or it’s another
