Beautiful beaches, amazing architecture & fantastic football
If my alliteration didn’t make it clear what I have chosen as my favorite place, it is Barcelona. I have visited Barcelona several times (3) the last few years and I enjoyed every minute I have spent in this terrific city. I find Barcelona way more alluring than other cities, because of its complexity. Barcelona is the only major city I can think of that attains the typical tourist conditions; nice weather, history and architecture, sandy beaches & great shopping possibilities. I enjoy all of these except for the shopping. In other cities, I have been ‘forced’ to stay at the entrance of countless stores, while my sister and mother went shopping. Luckily, I am not obliged to do that when staying in Barcelona, because the city has so much more to offer. Considering all these possibilities, I am convinced that most people

The construction of Sagrada Família was commenced in 1882, but the cathedral has yet to be officially finished. I find it amazing how architects like Gaudi, were able to build such excessive buildings considering the lack of industrial inventions at the time being.
Another part of Barcelona I really like is the ‘Olympic Mountain’ Montjuïc. The mountain has of course always been there, but it first started to become a tourist attraction when the Olympic area was built in 1992. Near the Olympic stadium, there is a park with trees and different kinds of flowers. One of the trees there is really standing out compared to the others. I assume it is more than 100 years old, probably even more. I am not sure why I feel stirred by this tree, but it feels like it is enchanted or otherworldly.
On top of the mountain, there is a superlative viewpoint where it is possible to see most of the city. It is almost as if you turn into a bird and get the ability to fly. Whenever I have went to Barcelona I’ve been at this

The Alhambra is considered to be one of the most important buildings constructed in its time. The palace city gained its status as an international monument in the 1870s, and is now the most visited tourist attraction in Spain, surpassing both La Sagrada Familia and El Prado, with 2.4 million people visited Granada’s Moorish palace in 2014. However its popularity and beauty were hard fought as it survived wars, takeovers, destruction and disrepair. It is this history that gives the complex its significance beyond the superficial beauty that made it famous.
Also referred to as the “Queen of the Missions,” it became a major social and cultural center. It is the largest of all the missions and is regarded as one of the most beautiful, as depicted in the distinctive architecture of its church and lush fields and pastures.
The Portuguese Empire lasted over six centuries, beginning in 1415, with the conquest of Ceuta, a Moroccan port on the straits of Gibraltar, and one of Europe’s first attempt at colonization in Africa. This move was orchestrated by Prince Henry, who was known as ‘the Navigator’. It was because of Prince Henry that Portugal became an imperialist country, he studied navigation, and made improvements on inventions like the astrolabe and compass, his goal was to make Portugal the most powerful sea power in the world. Prince Henry sponsored many naval explorers such as Bartolomeu Dias (who rounded the tip of Cape Hope in 1488) and Vasco de Gama. Three years after Ceuta, a group of uninhabited islands were found off the coast of Portugal, they were named the Madeiras, and almost immediately people began to settle there, they as well as the Azores islands (another set of uninhabited islands found in 1445) remain an autonomous part of Portugal today.
A place where theaters, museums, and attractions fill the road, but also a place where there is some of the most amazing scenery, and fantastic hiking. We pulled into the hotel and spent the rest o the day unpacking and exploring the hotel activities, including shuffleboard, swimming (both inside and outside), water volleyball, and a variety of tabletop games. We played around for a little bit, then headed back to the room.

In the 1500s under the reign of Pope Gregory XIII (7th January 1502-10th April 1585) work began on a structure that would maintain a university upon its grounds. This structure was known as the Palazzo della Sapienza, designed by Giacomo Della Porta (1533-1602). Giacomo Della Porta was responsible of designing and overseeing the project and he did so by designing a two-story colonnade which went around the courtyard. Before the project could be finished Giacomo Della Porta pasted away 1602.
It may have begun in the late 1800s to early 1900s and become strong in Picasso’s time, but it still runs deep for the locals. But, a major difference from Picasso’s Barcelona is that Catalan nationalism is not necessarily used for resistance as much; there are no “lines drawn between Catalan nationalist[s]” (Kaplan 8) and the others. It seems, to me, to be more like Catalan pride because I have seen the Catalan flag dangling from balconies all over the city. Similar to Picasso’s Barcelona, the Catalan language plays an important role in Barcelona’s culture. Today, I encounter people speaking Spanish; however, most things are written in three languages: Catalan, Spanish, and English (in that order). The nationalism may not be as severe as it was during Picasso’s Barcelona, but it still
Spain is a very diverse country, from culture to climate. The two main climate zones that occur in Spain happen to be almost exactly opposite, however, most of the same vegetation is common in the country. There are many natural features and characteristics in Spain, such as the beautiful mountain ranges or the vast amounts of iron ore, however, man made features are also developed, such as railroads. The culture is very unique, and many languages are spoken in Spain, not just Spanish, and religious beliefs are quite diverse.
Like so many stir crazy souls, mid-winter madness creeps in on Uncle Boise, too. I don't really have a calling to go too far from home since Idaho is one of the finest places on earth. Being the true definition of a home town boy, more often than not I just want to investigate the wonders of Idaho. With skiing so close, and not only within, but close to the borders of Idaho, I go north, base out of Coeur d'Alene, and take the short ride to the slopes. When I want to have a little diversion, and kiss the sky from a chairlift, I go visit my buds in Coeur d'Alene.
After World War Two, Francisco Franco took control of Spain and greatly impacted the people with an extreme fascist government. Fascism is defined as “an authoritarian nationalistic system of government and social organization” (Passmore), which was how Franco ran his government, taking complete control and doing many extreme things that took away the country's culture and diversity, leaving it very isolated. Franco’s fascist government profoundly impacted the people because of the establishment of a totalitarian regime and the severe political repression that it caused in the country.
Spain is an important country located in Europe. Its capital is Madrid located in the center of the country. Spain has a population of 46 million. The official language is Castilian, but there are also 3 other languages represented in Spain (Catalan, Galician, and Basque). The localization of Spain is an advantage for different reason. However, it is important to understand where Spain is located. Spain is in Southwestern Europe. The Bay of Biscay, the Northern Atlantic Ocean, and the Mediterranean Sea are the coastlines of Spain. Spain is also touching two countries, France on the northern part and Portugal on the western part. Spain also includes the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, and the Balearic Islands present in the Mediterranean

The city of Florence, Italy had commissioned for a cathedral to built. “Florence had become one of the leading cities in Europe. It had substantial wealth and a fast growing population. To accommodate this population for religious ceremonies . . . and to demonstrate the power of the city the construction of a major cathedral was undertaken. The body of the cathedral was completed in 1367. However, it had no dome or spire - it simply had a 42 meter wide hole in the chancel roof. . .For 50 years there was no progress until Brunelleschi was appointed in 1417.” The cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore.
Football was introduced to Spain by students of the The Free Educational Institution (Institución Libre de Enseñanza). In 1895 they founded the club Football goal, which played on Sunday mornings at Moncloa, Madrid. Five years later in the 1900, the club split into two different clubs New Foot-Ball de Madrid and Club Español de Madrid. The president was Julián Palacios.
