The act begins with Banquo becoming suspicious that Macbeth must have executed unmoral deeds to be able to gain status as king and as a result Macbeth than worries himself that Banquo has caught on to him and knows he was involved with the plans of killing Duncan. Banquo subtly makes the hint that he knows by saying: “I fear thou play’d most foully for it” Macbeth’s behaviour then transitions from normal to terrifying when he searches out two murderers and begins planning the murder of his own best friend Banquo to protect his secret. Unlike all of Macbeth’s previous schemes he didn’t include Lady Macbeth in his plans to murder Banquo and Lady Macbeth as a result becomes worried that her husband may be out of her control.

Banquo's purpose in the play is the quintessential foil of Macbeth, both in acting, as well as in meaning. Shakespeare utilizes Banquo in order to create opposite moods to what is the drive of the play, which is Macbeth and his wife plotting, scheming, and murdering, by offering great solid blocks of integrity, passion, and goodness, that slightly descend into questioning. In contrast to Macbeth's ambitious state, his transformation into an immoral form of such a state, and his acting on such, Shakespeare creates Banquo in order to give the reader a feeling for contrasting points in order to augment, and practically create, the play.
As the play progresses, Macbeth begins to make unhinged decisions that are pre-emptive to protect his status, ultimately resulting in his paranoia. Macbeth’s rash choice to kill Banquo reflects the unreasonable turn his actions take, as his crazed behavior is beginning to show. Banquo being alive agitates Macbeth to the point he feels “in such bloody distance,/ That every minute of his being thrusts/ Against my near’st of life” (3.1.128-130). Banquo is not posing a major threat to Macbeth’s ruling, however Macbeth feels the need to kill him in order to have a sense of security. He does this by manipulating murderers, a needless preventative deed that further highlights Macbeth’s paranoia. The fact that Macbeth hires
Like Lady Macbeth, other people deserve a present from Duncan. One person who should get a present is Banquo because he fought in the war with Macbeth, and Macbeth gets the title Thane of Cawdor from fighting in the war. Banquo also deserves a present because he is and will always be a loyal subject of Duncan: “So I lose none in seeking to augment it, but still keep my bosom franchised and allegiance clear, I shall be counseled (Macbeth Act 2 Sc 1 li. 26-29). Banquo deserves a large amount of money, or a higher rank in society because he puts in the same amount of effort as Macbeth. Another person who should get a present is Fleance because like Banquo, Fleance is related to the king. He does not need anything big, so he should get a small
He realizes that if he want to start his own dynasty, then he will have to have control of all the variables. Then Macbeth began to think, “For Banquo’s issues have I filed my mind;/ For them the gracious Duncan I have murdered” (Shakespeare 85). He realizes that he has set himself up to fail. He is cleared a path to the crown for Banquo’s kin. Macbeth goes on to state, “He chid the sisters/ When first they put the name of king upon me” (Shakespeare 85). This give the readers the thought that Banquo is jealous of the king. Macbeth, not wanting to risk his crown, calls for some outside murderers. As I stated earlier, Macbeth knew he must get rid of Banquo and his sons. He succeeds in having Banquo killed, but Banquo’s son, Fleance (the one person Macbeth needed to kill), escapes.

Macbeth attempts to assassinate Banquo out of fear. Macbeth knows that the witches prophecy foretold of Banquo’s lineage taking his crown. The witches can be assumed as his own mind convincing him that his incompetency will cause him to lose the throne. He realizes that Banquo is more suited for the throne and better man than himself: “Our fears in Banquo stick deep,/ And in his royalty of nature reigns that/ Which would be fear'd: 'tis much he dares;/...

After Duncan names Malcom as the next king something which Macbeth acts so fairly off with verbal praises; however, is thinking ever so foul as he secretly curses inside his head. The Suspicions of Two Best Friends Macbeth, by William Shakespeare published in 1623, is a play about an ambitious, overconfident soldier, Macbeth, and his power-hungry wife, Lady Macbeth, and their climb to the Scottish crown with bloody hands. In the beginning Macbeth and Banquo receive mysterious predictions from the Three Weird Sisters at the heath, that Macbeth will become King of Scotland and Banquo will become the hearth of a lineage of future Kings. Then later on, Banquo begins to raise his suspicions concerning the murder of King Duncan and he develops a belief that his best friend and now King, Macbeth, was the one who committed it. Macbeth also, develops suspicions about his best friend, in reference to the prophecy and a fear brews
In the case of Macbeth, children represent the future of family lines of kings and nobility. The dead child is used to represent both the murder of Macduff’s children and the murder of Banquo to put an end to his line, which would father kings. This is rooted in Macbeth’s insecurity of the witches’ prophecy. While Macbeth will be King of Scotland, his line will not continue. Therefore, his crown and scepter fruitless.
This scene suggests that Banquo is a genuine friend who sincerely cares for Macbeth’s well being as he does not want Macbeth to be deceived. Therefore, Banquo was Macbeth’s closest and most trustworthy friend. However, Macbeth’s ambition to have the greater promise come true starts to consume him. He disregards Banquo’s warning and kills Duncan to become king. Later, Macbeth realises that Banquo poses a threat to his rule as the witches prophesied that his children will inherit the throne.
Macbeth is a play about the perils of ambition. While returning home from home Banquo and Macbeth are confronted by witches that tell them prophecies. He accepts the prophecy of the witches and uses it as a guide for what will be, ultimately misjudging what they tell him. Macbeth, encouraged by his wife, attempts to remove the obstacles preventing him from being king, and these obstacles happen to be other characters. In the end his overconfidence leads to his own death when he believes that he can not be harmed when he is just a mortal like the rest of us.
Julio Villarreal English 4-W Professor Zirulnik January 18, 2015 The Tragedy of Macbeth Macbeth and his wife invite thanes of Scotland to a banquet with means of proving themselves throne-worthy. Much like the ethereal dagger that leads to Duncan's room, the ghost of Banquo appears at the banquet constantly, pushing Macbeth into random fits of rage and despair. Macbeth’s first order of events as a king is this exquisite banquet, a supposed representation of great discipline and benevolence, which becomes a wicked mockery of itself. Instead of Macbeth gathering with his subjects as he would wish, he is thrown off by the bloody apparition of his former ally.
