How often do people walk by a place and see someone getting attacked by a pitbull? Pretty much never. So why ban pit bulls from being pets whenever they don’t do anything to anyone? That’s right, they shouldn’t be banned. Pit bulls should be allowed to be pets because they help children and teens with ADHD, they’re not dangerous if raised properly, and banning pit bulls isn’t going to stop all dog bites.

Cesar Millan who has his own show on Nat Geo Wild called Cesar 911 works and owns his own pit bulls. He has had a dog named daddy who was raised with Cesar since 4 months old. Cesar had a large pack of dogs so it made daddy well socialized and never aggressive with other dogs. Daddy with two small boys of Cesar’s laying and sleeping on daddy he got the best play time with his kids and was calm and soft with Cesar’s kids. If other dogs were being mean to him he would just walk away and not start anything(Millan). With that in mind I feel that pit bulls are misunderstood and can be very good pets if raised with the correct and proper training. These dogs might look mean and aggressive If the dog is trained by someone to fight they will take the most time to open up.

Pit bulls do not inherit dangerous characteristics, it is the way the owner trains the dog. Every other breed of dogs has bitten a human before. Pit bulls guard people’s houses from burglars and just people in general they guard. Pit bulls are not even in the top five aggressive dogs! The most aggressive breed of dogs is a wiener dog. Today, the United States of America is hardly “United”. Divisions between race, religion and breed has left the country scrambling for answers. The answers themselves, are not always the right ones. Breed Specific Legislation are laws enacted in states and countries across the world that place bans and restrictions on certain breeds including Rottweilers, Boxers, and Pit Bulls. Many people don’t know that the term “bully breed” refers to more than forty breeds that hail from the same root breed. The history of the Pit Bull goes back to about the nineteenth century, during that time they were used to protect livestock, families, and even children as nannies (the Canine Journal). Today Pit Bulls are used as therapy dogs, police dogs, and of course a simple companion. The main reason pit bulls attack is because they are mentally unstable, a mixed breed and show overbearing traits, or because they are mistreated by their owners. The public must understand that the three “pit bull breeds were bred for dog fighting and bear and bull-baiting” (PBRC). On the other hand, they were also kept as “nanny dogs” and used for herding cattle. “Pit bulls are ideal for therapy work because of their pleasant nature” (PBRC). These are three of the most stable breeds known to man. They have a very high temperament test score, 86% as of 2010, a lot higher than most breeds. “The American Pit Bull Terrier is one of the top 5 most stable breeds in the country” (PBRC). Anyone can see that this is an excellent breed of dog. The reason for this low tolerance is because of their history of dog fighting. It has been bred into them to have the will to fight. In the State of Kentucky, The American Pit Bull Terrier is banned in the following cities: Alexandria, Augusta, Beaver Dam, Bracken County, Butler, Dayton, Eslmere, Falmouth, Fourt Thomas, Lewis County, Ludlow, Maysville, Pendleton County, Southgate, Walton, and Williamstown (DogsBite). All Pit Bulls in these areas are considered dangerous and will be removed from anyone caught with one and/or euthanized regardless of who owns them. Imagine, having a family member slaughtered because of the "bad rep" people assume the breed brings. This breed deserves a second chance at life.
