Banana Splits – an American Icon? I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. And who would not? Ice cream is a unique dessert which embodies America in numerous ways. It demonstrates important values and exemplifies the success that can come out of them. Ice cream is one of the most popular foods in the country, boasting $11 billion in sales annually in America alone (Semiatin, Steve 40). Traditionally, ice cream is a chilled combination of water, milk or cream, sugar, and occasionally eggs. There are many other types, for example creamy soft-serve, or the refreshing gelato and sorbet, which are more water based. It can be a good source of calcium and vitamin D which can promote bone health (Dairy Goodness Canada). While these facts are all interesting and relevant, the history of ice cream has a much deeper and more meaningful impact on American society one may think. Accounts of ice cream lovers date all the way back to the second century BC. These include Alexander the Great (356BC – 323BC) and Marco Polo (1254-1324). Unfortunately, the dairy treat did not make it over to the New World until the mid-eighteenth century, where it quickly became a favorite of both Presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson (International Dairy Foods Association). Back then, due to the high production prices, it was a dessert made exclusively for the elite. The difficulty of keeping the ice cool enough made its transport almost impossible. Luckily, about one hundred years
The "Sour Patch Kids" were a group of kids who were all raised in a orphanage together and ran away when they were seven. Even though they didn't go to school they were highly smart. Each of them had their own signature invention. There were 5 of them in total, 3 boys and 2 girls. Their names were Roy,Skyler,Samy,Dylan and their leader was Pizza Steve or just Steve.
Since 1928, the H. B. Reese company's been making the irresistible combination of chocolate and peanut butter known as the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. The significance of this artifact in the american culture and history is, without a doubt, vastly significant. As a confection, both peanut butter and chocolate pack a strong punch in their own right. They are often main ingredients in cookies, cakes, ice creams, and other desserts and treats. They're familiar… there’s something instinctively American and close to home about them both. It is no wonder they need very little persuasion of the American people to become the number one most popular candy in the United States by a wide margin.
Augustus Jackson was born on April 16, 1808. He was a worker in the White House when he moved from his hometown in Philadelphia. In the 1820’s he was a teenager he became one of the top chefs. Then he quit and moved back to Philadelphia and he opened his own shop as a caterer and a confectioner. When working with ice cream he discovered that mixing rock salt and ice the salt will act as a neutral object that controls and lowers the temperature of the ingredients he used for his ice cream. When he made this discovery he started to sell it inin street vendors and in ice cream parlors. He found this out in 1834. Soon after the invention he was named the ‘the father of ice cream’. Although he didn’t actually invent it. Some historians say that
Now, as you may know of already, obesity is one of the biggest problems we face in America today. Many people can actually be athletic and not lazy at all but tend to eat unhealthily, after all it's 20% exercise and 80% diet. However, that's why I would like to introduce a dessert that is not only just absolutely delicious but healthy too! It is nonfat strawberry-coconut ice cream.
on a hot summer day one will find a lot of people enjoying soda pop, it is well used in the summer as a cool beverage because of its coldness it will sooth ones taste buds leaving one wanting more. Hearing the fizz as one opens, tasting the coolness, and after, feeling the soft sweet drink in ones throat will make one feel fresh and new.
The last two items on the list are used to prevent cross contamination between the peanut butter and jelly jars.
Clarence Birdseye invent the frozen foods because so food can last and you don’t have to can so much food. They froze almost all foods. They froze like spaghetti noodles, to green beans, to sweet corn, to pizza. They made the meats and froze it.
Beef and dairy are no longer a delicacy to our society; they have become a staple of the American diet. In Eric Schlosser’s Fast Food Nation, not only did he show us how the fast food industry changed America's history, he also detailed the ways it changed America’s behavior, which then directly influenced its citizens’ health, and not for the better. Beef and dairy are less an example of how we should eat than how we shouldn’t.
In today’s society we all have fears, for instance many fear things like spiders, heights, or public speaking. Just like in “The Masque of the Red Death” by Edgar Allan Poe, one fear most everyone has is disease. Diseases today such as Hepatitis C, AIDS, cancer, liver disease, tuberculosis and so many more change so many lives every day.
First of all, I have to admit chocolate milk tastes pretty good. Just knowing there is chocolate milk in the cafeteria makes kids go crazy. Some people drink lots of chocolate milk. Many people drink chocolate milk every day! Some people haven’t realized how much sugar is in this drink. The average child
I found it quite interesting that you compared The MIlls Brothers to the Blue Man Group. I would have never of thought to compare the two groups, in a popular culture study due to several differences. I do agree yes that each group plays off the other members to support the show and make for a better performance, but beyond that I find it hard to compare them. Other than the physical differences, and the fact that Blue Man Group uses no words that you pointed out, The Mills Brothers represent a musical talent to an older upper white class society that was almost all white. It was four young black men that broke the boundaries of racial profiling and showed that true talent shines above everything else. Then continued to demon straight
Frank Epperson, from San Francisco, California, at only eleven-years-old invented the popsicle in 1905. Frank left a cup with powdered soda, water, and a stirring stick on his front porch. There is no specific reason as to why this invention was created, it says that he forgot the cup with the mixture outside on accident. The president of the United States of America, during the time of this invention in 1905, was Theodore Roosevelt. The popsicle wasn’t its first name, Frank called it Episcle, a blend of the icicle and his name. He started selling the treat around his neighborhood, where later he gained major publicity.
Making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is very easy. First you will need to take out all of your ingredients. You will need two pieces of bread from the cabinet, peanut butter from the cabinet, jelly from the refrigerator and a butter knife (not sharp) from the utensil drawer, where the pointy forks and rounded spoons are kept. Bread is soft, white with brown edges and square, peanut butter is thick, brown and kind of creamy, and jelly is the purple jello looking sticky stuff. Take out the bread by untwisting the yellow string attached to the bag, take two pieces out and lay them on a plate.
In ancient civilizations, the banana held important roles in cultural and religious traditions, and continues to today. The presence of banana leaves in Incan tombs indicates a religious connection. In Southeast Asia, a green coconut surrounded by bunches of green bananas are an important part of traditional offerings to the Buddha. Hawaiian legends refer to a connection between plantains and the fabled, semi-mythical native race of Menehunes. In Thailand, there is the belief of Nang Tani, a tree-related spirit that manifests itself as a young woman and haunts a certain type of banana plant. And in Malay and Indonesian mythology, the vampiric Pontianak ghost is said to reside in banana plants during the day.
First, I will start off my telling you a little bit of history behind ice cream and how it started. According to Dairy Goodness, Dairy Farmers of Canada..
