Which Bat Hits the Ball Farther Wood or Aluminum? Baseball sure is a fun sport, so let's look into the bats! Baseball bats are what basically makes baseball a sport and we need to know if aluminum or wood bats make the ball go farther. The motion of a swing and what the items are made of are all things we need to find out about this project. Motion is basically just a change in position. Running is motion because you change position while moving your feet. Like when you swing the baseball bat you are in motion and if you hit the ball, the ball is said to be in motion. When the pitcher pitches the ball, the ball has to be in linear motion for the ball to be a strike. Therefore, linear motion …show more content…

A regular MLB (Major League Baseball) baseball weighs around 5.5 ounces, which is pretty light for a ball. The baseball is made of cow or horsehide strips with a red stitching that keeps the strips in place. The baseballs interior is made up of a lot of materials including wool. There is woolen thread lining the circumference of the baseball, then there is woolen yarn wound into a ball that goes inside of the woolen thread. in the middle of the yarn ball there is a thin rubber casing with a tiny ball of cork inside that makes the ball go farther. In fact, the baseball is made up of a bunch of woolen …show more content…

In the 1970’s when aluminum bats were first introduced lower type of alloys were used, which probably meant the ball didn't go too far once it hit the bat. As bat designs were improving better metals were used such as 7046 which is a type of strong and sturdy aluminum. The people who made the bats adjusted amounts of zinc, magnesium, and scandium which improve the bats drastically. In conclusion, I hypothesize that aluminum bats make the ball go farther because that's why they use wooden bats in the MLB so the ball won't go as far once it's hit. Wooden bats are what they use in the MLB and in one baseball season it takes about 40,000 trees to make all of the wooden bats! There are many woods used to make bats including these most popular ones, Northern White Ash, Hickory, and Maple. After Barry Bonds broke the single season home run record everyone wanted a Maple wood bat. After the home run record everyone believed that Maple wood bats made the ball go farther. All in all, it doesn't really matter which wood is
