A time I've experienced bad communication was when I worked at Regal two years ago, it was the first month I've been there and I was just learning how to operate all the equipment but I was never shown how to operate the popcorn machine. One night I was working with one other girl and my one manager who stayed in her office. My co-worker had to go on her break and she told me she would see me in 45 minuets when she would be back from her break. She tended to forget to tell me anything else and left. I than suddenly started to see a lot of smoke coming out of the popcorn machine and a horrendous smell of burnt popcorn which filled the whole theater and made the whole main area with a lot of smoke. My manager than ran out of office because she …show more content…
There were many causes that instigated this problem due to bad communication. Before my co-worker left she could have told me that she had the popcorn machine on so I would have known therefore I could have reminded her that I was new and that I would have needed her to show me what to do when it was ready instead of burning the popcorn. When I was receiving my training it would have been nice for them to shown me a quick introduction of the popcorn machine when in case this happened. My manager also experienced bad communication because when she came out she jumped into conclusion and acted like this was my fault. I learned that when you have to go on break you have to tell your co-workers what you have turn on like the popcorn machine so they know what to expect when you are gone of break. If my co-worker was able to explain to me what she had going on before she left on break this whole situation could have been prevented. Communication is a key to success and when it comes to working its very important. After I experienced this situation communicating became a bigger part of the work place because in a matter of minuets I could had the fire alarm going
Brian Watson talks about the communication problems that Information Technology professionals have to deal with in his article named, “Failure to Communicate”. Watson also presents his ideas on the communication skills of chief information officers (CIO) of companies and he mentions that there are several intrinsic obstacles in the quest of a CIO to become a better communicator. The author also goes on to say that most CIO’s have career paths that are not built on strong communication skills. He then suggests that CIO’s should think of innovative ways to mingle with their team and pay attention to the communication problems troubling their bosses.
Managers promote poor communication when it is not planned out correctly, which can cause chaos and friction within the department. Emotions can cause a barrier and result in a communication breakdown. Poor communication is not always at the fault of the manager, poor listening on the staff’s part can
Effective Communication is significant and a fundamental relationship-building skill in the workplace for any employee especially for managers to perform the basic functions of management, i.e., Planning, Organising, Leading and Controlling. If people don't communicate well they limit their ability to connect on any meaningful level which can create conflict. Depending on the position in workplace, others will have expectations of how an individual should communicate with others. It is important that for any employee show respect to those he or she works with. The general social care council’s code of practice states that communications should be conducted in an
I don't care how you feel." Needless to say the conversation was summed up to "I'll be speaking to your corporate tomorrow" and that just what happened. After reviewing security cameras the corporate advisor saw that not only was our waitress was in the wrong but that the assistant manager was as well for letting her yell across the restaurant. Now what happened is over and cannot be undone but for those of you who eat here and happen to be any race other than white, or have sexual preferences that differ from the "norm" I would like to tell you that Lauren should not be your server, she should not be a server
On Wednesday March……….during lunch Joanne Svec in passing said that she had seen Mary Herrick when she was delivering the mail and explained that Tim came into the office earlier that morning very agitated and complaining. He told her he was going to “blow”. She indicated to us that she was, “very afraid” and that he has an arsenal of weapons. She also indicated that Jane Hayes, who was eating lunch with us as well, felt the same way although Jane was not in the office when this exchange occurred. Tracey and I were both stunned by this information and really didn’t know what to say. After lunch Tracey and I spoke about what was said and from my perspective I could not understand why Joanne did not bring this matter to Tracey, her immediate supervisor. Based on all of our training on safety protocol if Joanne felt the possibility of imminent danger existed Tracey should have been notified.
The waiters and waitresses were trying their best to provide great service, but it was easy to tell how inexperienced they were. Our waitress pushily asked for our drink order and without a pause to get our drinks she wanted to know our food order. We were in no particular hurry, but it seemed like she was. When she came back for our food order, another server interrupted her about information about a type of wing sauce. Our waitress then proceeded to walk off with the other server in the middle of us ordering. We felt disrespected and
Although the situation may have seen minor to others, like my coworker, I ultimately decided that the right thing to do was tell someone who would act on the situation. Today, I am glad I did not follow the status- quo, and act based on my ethical values. In my future jobs, I will be more likely to be proactive about a mistake because of this learning
The restaurant got extremely packed and stayed that way until the restaurant closed. I was overwhelmed with the many customers I had to take care of. I had no problems until I got sat the most annoying and demanding ladies ever. They disrespected me by snapping their fingers at me when I would take care of my other customers. Every time I passed by to see how everything was, they would ignore me or answer me with a snobby attitude. If I didn't have my uniform on, and if I didn't care about my job or paying bills, I would have pulled some hair and brought out the cat
One day a supervisor observed student employees preparing to get ready for a work day at the beginning of their shift. In the process the student manager gathered his student employees together and verbally explained what was to be done and in what order. In the course of dividing the day the student manager went over the daily events and the task that needed to be taken in charge first and how many student staff members needed for each task. While observing the student staff, the supervisor, professional staff member, noticed that most of the student employees were busy looking at the desk computer or fidgeting with their radio and keys or just not paying attention to the student manager. The crew split up and went on about their way when
About 15 minutes later I hear a loud ruckus. So I jump into a golf cart and went to go check out where that loud noise came from. As I pull into the hole number 1 I see that he had flipped the golf cart over and made a mess of all the stuff that was in the cart. . I had no idea what to do. The cart was trashed and we didn’t even know if it would run. My co-worker immediately starts freaking out and starts trying to sweet talk me out of calling our Boss and telling him what had happened. Which at the moment seemed like the most logical thing to do. I was dumbfounded I didn’t know what to do, or even how we were going to get the cart back. We flipped the cart back over so we could assess the damage and how bad it actually was. We realized that the cart was in worse shape than we thought. The roof was a caved in, there was scratches all along the left side of the cart, the wheels were dented, and to make it worse the axel was bent. We finally got it started and drove it back to the clubhouse. I was driving behind him on the way up and saw that the cart was driving crooked, almost sideways. He convinced me not to tell our boss. It sounded like a good idea, I didn’t want to tell him because I knew for sure that he was going to get in trouble and
It was a pleasant day; it was cloudy and fresh thanks to the rain for the day before. My friend Katherine and I were heading to Starbucks coffee to enjoy a delicious coffee while we did our homework. The assignment was due in a couple of hours so for time issues we went to the nearest Starbucks, which is the one with the oldest and wealthy customers in town. Which I hated for the same reason, not that I hated old and wealthy people; actually the elderly community in my town, for the most part, has proven to be very friendly and caring. When we arrive at the coffee shop, it seemed like we chose the most crowded moment to go into the shop; every table was occupied and there was a long line to order. After ordering, Katherine and I sat at the
I proceeded to my sit and enjoyed my sub sandwich, it was actual my first meal for the day. The sub was neat in appears, fresh and I enjoyed the sub sandwich and the new Lay's Green Tomatoe chips I had never heard of them. I went back to the counter after completing my meal and ask for the manager. Adnan said he was the manager. I presented the Oops card and went over the confirmation form with him. Adnan stated, 'I did thank you and told you to get your drink", I replied to him sir that did not occur. Adnan demeanor changed and he become defiant and said to me, "can you change this", and continue to ask me to change the mystery shop to a successful shop and I told him I could not do that it would be unethical and he continued to ask me could I change it. I told him again I could not. Adnan then completed the form as required. Teanna walked over and ask said she had a questions. Teanna said that she was working at another location that was shopped and it was 3 employees and she did not get her gift card and she wanted to know how would she receive her gift
Today my mother and I had went to Houma for a little shopping trip, we invited one of my best friends and her mother. The morning was lovely, and no morning is complete without coffee. Being the person I am, a Starbucks enthusiast, we had but one option to go there and there only... in fact, we went to Starbucks twice today because I love it so much. The problem was not with the franchise and it's service, but with a customer who had no business talking to me, nor insulting me. Our parents had sent me and my friend in to order and wait for our coffee. After all of our orders had came, I sat them on the table to take a picture to post to snapchat. As soon as we stood up and grabbed our things, walking to
Within this small exert of conversation it can be seen that there are several times where I exerted ineffective communication. The first was which this is done can be seen within C1, from the very beginning of the conversation I conveyed hostile nonverbal. My mood was hostel and therefore my nonverbal were acting in the was of repeatedly conveying this to the receiver, staying congruent with my mood opposed to contradicting it (Hayes 1994). With crossed arms and a hostile demeanour it was obvious conflict was about to ensue because of my hostile nonverbal behaviour, this crossing of the arms is known as an alter-adaptor. J also responded, taking a step back in J1. This conveyed that she was removing herself from the normal and once ‘comfortable’
that, due to immaturity, training, and information that directed my co-worker into pushing that request to me in the first place. Due to the inexperience, she was incompetent to recognise the danger, the
