To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is an American novel written in 1960. The main character’s father, Atticus Finch, seemed as if he always knew the right thing to say an when to say them. In chapter 11, Atticus tells Scout, “Before I can live with other folks, I've got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience” (Lee). This quote is widely used today in people’s everyday lives. My brother was popular in tenth grade for the most part. He hung out with the “cool kids” and was invited to parties and other things. When he went to a church camp called “Veritas” in tenth grade, he realized that what he was doing wasn’t what he wanted. His freshman year, he joined Pi Kappa Alpha, the biggest party fraternity on campus. Halfway through the year, one of his close friends got alcohol poisoning during a party and my uncle realized that the stuff he was doing did not pertain to his morals. He knew that he had to stay true to who he really was. He immediately quit the fraternity. A year later, he transferred to Ouachita Baptist University, where he finished out his college years respecting his morals. Sometimes, sticking to you morals means to do the right thing. Last year, I was in a play called “A Christmas Story” at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre. After one of our shows I found a wallet in the auditorium with eighty-five dollars in it. It was very tempting to take the money and be on my way but something inside of me told me to be a good person and turn in the wallet. I was thanked for turning it in and two days later, it wa returned to a man named Robert. I knew that I had stayed true to my morals by turning in the wallet even though the temptation of taking the money almost won me
