My close friend Ashwin Mohan had once told me his perspective on perseverance and I was curious to know how it has helped or hindered him throughout his life. His response would be different from that of my previous interviewee in my reflection essay, Kenny Varghese. Ashwin had told me that he viewed perseverance as a means to an end. As it was very catchy to hear, Ashwin would explain his phrase, saying how there are two successful people, one that is handed everything and doesn’t worry while on the other hand the second works hard and persevered through hardships to become successful. Ashwin then asked, “Who would be more successful?” I replied with the obvious answer, “The person that persevered.” He nodded in agreement pointing out how
Perseverance is an immense trait that rules all if one contains it. Never giving up, pushing through, that is what it means, and that’s what it takes. Perseverance can be mastered by anyone, you have to fight and never back down to succeed. Raise the bar, and push past others. Both Buck and Leighton persevered by succeeding in the face of adversity and giving it everything they had.
When faced with adversity, certain characteristics will help people succeed in overcoming the obstacle in their way. While others who don’t possess these characteristics, often end up succumbing to the adversity. One characteristic of people that overcome adversity often have is perseverance. While reading the books assigned for summer reading I realized that two of the books contained characters that used their personal perseverance to overcome certain problems and obstacles. These characters are Santiago from The Alchemist and Juror #8 from Twelve Angry Men.
As a first generation college student, I must always exude perseverance to succeed. Perseverance shows ambition and self-motivation to make it to the finish line. There are many obstacles to face and overcome as a college student, especially as a first generation college student. Whether it is the obstacle of not always having assistance or the obstacle of being pressured to be the great one in the family, I still persevere through it all. If I let every obstacle that is thrown at me knock me over, then I will never make it to the end of this long journey.
Success is no accident, it takes perseverance and hard work how bad do you want it? Not giving up is very important for many things. Perseverance is something many people lack and is a crucial thing to succeed in life.
The event call to action in my story is going to be showing a day when I’m at work and I’m talking with a client and they are telling me about how there son graduated and what he has done with his life. And Ill continue to talk about how I finally made the decision to go to Full Sail.
Any tragic moment could potentially rip our hopes and dreams out of our grip. Perseverance is a characteristic. It cannot be adopted, perseverance is everlasting. Throughout our everyday lives, we find ourselves being pushed down and sacrificed for the pleasure of others. We see our hard work demolished and our efforts unseen. We ask ourselves, ‘what keeps us going?’, ‘how can we do it?’. It’s the “choice to continue an effort to achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition” (Perseverance). Perseverance is a decision to change: not because we want to, but because we have to; due to hardship. Nothing in life will flow freely, but we can decide to work through the darkness and difficulties. This term, used in everyday life,
Perseverance is defined as a steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, or state, especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement. I chose this word as my theological theme to analyze because of what the Wael Ghonim and the Egyptians had to endure, and my own relationship to the word. Wael Ghonim created the webpage “We are all Khaled Said,” to aid the Egyptian nation to fight through the tyrannical rule that held Egypt hostage. The death of the this young man made Egyptians realize how easily that could have been a loved one or themselves. This word also reminds me of my parents: “Annaliet, si no trabajas duro y te dedicas a Dios, no estás adorando a Dios.” My parents always told me that God created us to worship him and one way of doing that is through hard work because the ability to work is a gift that God gave to mankind. By this, they also meant that following God’s word and keeping our faith for Him would be a constant struggle, similarly like Jones believes, because of the world that we live in. Revelations 2:10 says, “Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Beware, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison so that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have affliction. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.” In whatever we do, wherever we live -- there are always going to be circumstances that we have to face, but the real test is keeping our faith to God while we go through these hardships.
Ghandi is the most gritty hero within the group of heroes we researched because, he used perseverance, passion, and effort to get rid of British rule in India and stop the oppression and segregation they brought with them. Firstly, he used his passion for freedom to get rid of British rule in India. For instance, the hero book states, he decided to march to the sea and take salt, which was illegal to do, as a way to stand up against Britain. Thus, he used passion to stand up against “the man”. Secondly, he used perseverance to overcome obstacles within his goals. To illustrate, the hero book, writes, Ghandi had been arrested on many occasions for breaking the morally wrong laws set by Britain. Thus he used perseverance to overcome being arrested
"Never stop fighting until you arrive at your destined place - that is, the unique you. Have an aim in life, continuously acquire knowledge, work hard, and have the perseverance to realize the great life. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam." Now the word perseverance means the act or power of continuing to do something in spite of the difficulties that confront someone. Perseverance is important because it shows what someone has been through and how they overcame it. An example of this is a girl who has a math test at school and by studying for the test she is able to pass it. This is showing perseverance with her studying for her test. In this essay, there will be three stories and how these people persevered through their life trials. The first story is about a woman named Temple Grandin, who was born autistic and faces the world with her different thinking process. She persevered throughout all of her life and becomes a college professor. The second story is from Desert Exile. This story is about a little girl who shows her experience of being moved to a camp in the United States. The reason the united states did this is so they could prevent any further attack by the Japanese on pearl harbor. The last story is a book titled Twice Pardoned. It is about Harold Morris, who was falsely accused of murder and given two life sentences; but in the end, finds redemption in Christianity and is released from prison. Authors use nonfiction literature to influence their reader through hard
What is perseverance? Perseverance is the ability to go on when things seem hopeless. It is also a measure of success, or at least how much sacrifice one is willing to make in the name of success. As students, it is impossible to achieve personal success without having a goal, or direction. The goal and direction that often propels us to achieve is perseverance. Perseverance is the ability to forge ahead despite setbacks that threaten to undermine all efforts to succeed.
In addition, the concept of perseverance would be a philosophical teaching I would apply to my students. Perseverance is also having an opportunity of equality. “Equality of Opportunity means that all members of a society are given equal chances to pursue wealth and enter any occupation or social class” (Spring, 2016, p. 66). Every student should preserve to receive an opportunity and rights to an education no matter what social class, color, or intellectual ability they have. Perseverance leads to fight for an opportunity of equality in which it’s important for students to have that courage in order to have a successful future.
Throughout my high school career, I have learned that real success only comes from overcoming hardships and obstacles along the way. Therefore, I value my perseverance, as it has taught me to be realistic in creating and accomplishing my goals, as good things only come to those who never give up.
Perseverance is a very powerful word with many meanings. Knowing what this word means knowing what you value. Perseverance means something else for everyone. Mastering what this word means results in a successful life, yet it takes a lot of discipline and time to achieve. Most peoples summaries of perseverance is about never giving up and putting your all into something until you achieve. While this is correct, I think it is more personal than that. I think that perseverance is achieving what truly makes you happy, whether it be something small or big. Perseverance is a very important and positive characteristic to have. In order to push through obstacles, discouragement, or difficulties, you must have steady perseverance. Although sometimes you must fail in order
“I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”-Michael Jordan. Everyone at some point of their life is going to have a rough patch. Everyone is going to have someone or something that is trying to stop them from reaching what their heart really desires. After reading three articles on three totally different people a common theme comes to mind on what these people all had in common. They all persevere through the tough times they faced in their lives. Each one of these people, Melba, Terrell Owens, and Malala have all had to overcome some sort of challenge in their life. Melba was being tormented at her school, for being black, and she wasn't receiving fair treatment.
Dictionary.com defines perseverance as “Steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.” My aunt, Tracy, is a perfect example of someone who has this quality. She has been through so many hard times in her life but she always manages to find positivity and overcome difficult situations.
