When Rodriguez was 4 years old, he and his family moved to the Dominican Republic. It was during this time that Rodriguez began playing baseball. However, when Rodriguez was in fifth grade, his family moved from the Dominican Republic to Miami. Sadly, it was after the Rodriguez's moved back to the United States that Victor and Lourdes separated and Lourdes was left to raise Rodriguez and his siblings on her own (A+E, 2012).

Musial had an unorthodox batting stance. He crouched down to make the strike zone smaller, held his hands back until the last possible instant, and punched many of his hits the opposite way. "A lot of guys saw my hitting style and said I'd never hit in the big leagues," Musial recalled. In fact, Musial feasted on all types of pitching. For a two year span in the early 1960s, Tommy Davis was probably the best hitter in baseball. His 1962 season was one in which Tommy Davis set Dodger records that still stand. Tommy Davis had 153 runs batted in that magical campaign, the most in the National League in 25 years. It would be 34 more years before anyone in baseball would duplicate reaching the 150 RBI plateau attained by Tommy Davis in 1962. But despite his great success at an early age, Tommy Davis wound up playing with ten teams in eighteen years. Tommy Davis was a high school teammate of a future Basketball Hall of Famer, Lenny Wilkins, and the six-foot two Davis could have had a career in that sport. A standout in baseball in high school, Tommy Davis was convinced by none other than Jackie Robinson to sign with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1956. Tommy Davis was born and lived in Brooklyn, but before he ever made the big club the Dodgers had moved west to Los Angeles. Tommy Davis won the batting titles of the Midwest and Pacific Coast Leagues on his way up the minor league ladder. He debuted with the Dodgers in 1959 in a one game stint as a pinch-hitter. The next season, his rookie year, Tommy Davis hit .276 in 110 games; two years later he would enjoy that monster 1962 season. In 1962, Tommy Davis compiled 230 hits, still the Dodger mark for a right-handed batter. He won the first of two consecutive batting titles with his .346 average; Tommy Davis would win it again by batting .326 in 1963. Only Mike Piazza

Accomplishments: He broke ground for the participation of African Americans in professional sports. Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's career home run record, although he hit a respectable .280 with 13 home runs before breaking an ankle in September. In 1955, Aaron became the Braves' starting right fielder and he won the NL batting title in 1956 with a .328 average and 26 home runs. His all-time career mark of 755 home runs was built on a remarkable 20-season stretch from 1955 through 1974. He hit 40 or more home runs in 8 of those seasons, 30 or more in 15, and 20 or more in all 20. He also batted over .300 fourteen times. His top batting average was .355 in 1959; his best home run season was 1971, when he had 47. Fascinatingly, he hit 44 home runs--his uniform number--in three different seasons, 1957, 1963, and 1965. The Braves, who had moved to Atlanta in 1966, announced that he would be held out of the opening series in Cincinnati so he would have a chance to break the record before his home fans. However, Baseball Commissioner Bowie Kuhn ordered the team to use Aaron in Cincinnati, and he tied the record in his first trip to the plate. When he retired, he held all-time major-league records for extra base hits, 1,477; total bases, 6,856; and runs batted in, 2,297. Aaron then returned to Atlanta to work in the Braves' front office, where he became one of the first blacks in upper-level
The Dred Scott Decision of 1857 ruled that African-Americans, even ones who were not enslaved, were not protected under The Constitution and could never be citizens. This brings up questions that will be answered in this paper. Should slaves be American citizens? Is it morally correct for one to own another human? Does the Dred Scott decision contradict The Declaration of Independence which states that every man is created equal?
