For many years, women who terminate their pregnancy have been silently and verbally judged. Abortion is one the world's most common surgical procedures. About 46 million abortions are performed every year, 20 million of these are done illegally. Abortion is practiced widely by women all over the world, across all social classes, regardless of laws against abortion. Since the beginning of recorded history, abortion has been commonly practiced by almost all societies, including ancient China, Egypt, Greece, Rome, and countless others. In fact, abortion could be called a fundamental aspect of human behaviour. It wasn’t until 1973 when the Roe v. Wade law was passed that abortion became legal. You may not believe it but most women who terminate their pregnancy do not regret it. Studies show that, “Most women are satisfied with their decision, they believe they have benefited more than had been harmed by their abortion, and would have an abortion again.” These studies show that most women who terminate their pregnancies do not consider it murder, that abortion can be beneficial”. Other sources say, “Studies within the first few weeks after the abortion have found that between 40 and 60 percent of women questioned report negative reactions. Within 8 weeks after their abortions 55% expressed guilt, 44% complained of nervous disorders, 36% had experienced sleep disturbances, 31% had regrets about their decision, and 11% had been prescribed psychotropic medicine by the family doctor.” What this accusation failed to mention is that 80% of women were not depressed after having an abortion. Nearly 70% of women reported being satisfied with the decision, and 72% reported more benefit than harm.
