The topic of women’s reproductive rights has become a major, controversial issue in today’s society. Grounded in a history of opposition for religious, political, and moral reasons, reproductive rights have only legally been around for a short period of history. Specifically, the landmark case Roe v. Wade was the major stride that this country took towards enforcing women’s reproductive rights. The ruling for this case determined that reproductive rights are legal rights women hold, inclusive of the right to have abortions. However, many laws today are made in an effort to prevent abortions, acting as “undue burdens” that aim to create obstacles for women who seek this type of medical procedure.

Abortion has been a controversial topic and fluctuated in-and-out of political discussions for decades, but has started to become a more popular debate topic as of late. Societies frequently regard the term “good” as whatever is pleasurable or moral and “bad” as whatever causes unpleasant outcomes. Therefore it makes sense that we should seek out the good in life and avoid the bad. In cases of abortion, though, where a potential life is considered “bad”, is it justified to remove it? Life is viewed as the highest intrinsic good, thus any act of deliberately taking it away becomes a serious moral issue. I will attempt to refute the leading pro-choice arguments while holding my claim that abortion to end a life is always immoral because it is an act of murder.

On the opposite, pro-life supporters assume that fetuses are human, and they are subjected to a lot of pain in the process of an abortion. Talbot provides the reader with an even amount of examples explaining the beliefs of each stance. Being raised as a Catholic, my church has always preached to bring an end to abortion. Most of them are from young teens, so then many states made new laws that requires a teenager to take their parents’ with them or at least have their permission before performing an abortion. It has be proven that this has help reduce the number of abortions per year. Many people think that the parents will help teenagers understand and make them change their mind before aborting.
