In California, marijuana became legal in 1996; as a result, people could buy drugs only for medical needs. After 20 years, voters approved Proposition 64 that makes cannabis legal for 21 and older. Almost 50 percent supported this law. In contrast, other people understand that this is very bad for health and can affect our development. I think that it's a bad idea to introduce this law. Because people who used to be afraid of smoking because of illegality or not being able to buy, now they can easily try and continue to earn dependence. It is cleverer to leave the opportunity to buy cannabis only to people who need treatment or to relieve pain. Therefore, legalization of this drug has bad consequences in mental health, social interaction and driving a vehicle.
Until now, many have argued that marijuana has advantages and can help in medical purposes. Cannabis is considered a folk method and helps relieve pain and make less invulnerable in diseases such as Alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, cancer and schizophrenia. It does not carry so much harm

According to The Social Impact of Drug Abuse, a person who takes cannabis for a long time has problems with brain development and his function. Some of the affected brain processes include decision-making, idea formation and planning. This is especially true if a person has started taking from an early age. Australasian Professional Society on Alcohol and other Drugs claim that 80 percent of drug addicts have memory problems and 60 percent have learning difficulties. In addition, Depression is one of the consequences of marijuana. During the use of marijuana, the world in human consciousness expands its capabilities and after the end of the action it is hard for a person to get used to the reality. Thus, a person ceases to enjoy life and is depressed. So, marijuana harms the brain both physically and
The subject of marijuana legalization has been an exceedingly popular discussion topic in recent years and, as time goes on, only seems to grow more popular. This discussion has resulted in many arguments that support marijuana’s legalization. One popular argument says that since alcohol is worse for you, and alcohol is legal, marijuana should be legalized. However, this argument that marijuana should be legalized because marijuana’s effects when consumed or smoked are better than those of alcohol is a purposeless argument. This argument fails to consider the many negative effects marijuana would have on the individual, environment, and, society.
The smoke of marijuana contains noxious gases such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, ammonia, acetaldehyde, acetone, and benzene. The chemicals in the drug imprint on the brain like opiates (a drug containing opium or its derivatives). One study has shown that the blood vessels in the brain of a marijuana smoker experience restricted flow. Restricted blood vessel flow causes the functions of the brain to work improperly. Some common impacts on the mentality are temporary hallucinations and temporary paranoia. Users have also experienced difficulty with thinking and impaired memory. Studies have also shown that the use of marijuana has been linked to depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts among teenagers and young adults. In a world where intelligence is highly valued it is ironic that many people support a drug that affects one's mentality. More people need to comprehend that marijuana is a hallucinogen, which distorts how the mind perceives the world a person lives in.
It is true that some studies suggest that cannabis, which is the plant from which marijuana is derived, has some positive impacts on certain illnesses. For instance, a laboratory study shows that THC, which is one of the compounds in the cannabis plant, may be useful for increasing appetite. Also, another study suggests that THC can contribute positively in treating glaucoma by reducing intraocular pressure. Furthermore, a study indicates that THC can be a pain relief to patients who suffer from multiple sclerosis. However, that does not mean that marijuana should be legal and all of these points are not sufficient for legalizing marijuana (Godandscience.org, 2015).
The debate over marijuana has been going on for decades, and it still continues. The issue is usually over whether or not marijuana should be legalized for recreational use, but the video shows that the real issue actually surrounds medical marijuana. The video states that the reason so many people voted to allow the legalization of marijuana is because they failed to read the fine print. I can say that I am one of those who failed to read the fine print, and didn’t realize that marijuana can be prescribed for almost any condition. When it was first legalized for medical use it was only legalized for people who were terminal and really sick, not for people that were depressed or had a minor pain in their leg. I find it ironic that the state
More than forty percent of the U.S. population which is about 107 million Americans have tried marijuana or also known has cannabis. The issue of legalizing Marijuana goes back to the early 1900’s. In 1937 the Marijuana Tax Act federally prohibited marijuana. In recent years, marijuana has been a heated subject in America for a long time since Colorado voted on legalizing Marijuana on November 6, 2012. While some individual’s discover that marijuana can help with medical issues, and also help with taxes legalizing marijuana can lead up to serious addictions, and cause physical and mental problems, therefore; Mississippi should not legalize the drug. Shockingly more population believe that marijuana should continue to stay illegal while the
Imagine waking up every morning with having to ingest several different kinds of anti depression pills just to cope with PTSD. Almost all of theses prescription pills have long term effects such as the suicidal thoughts caused by the zoloft,or the dizziness caused by the Seroquel, or maybe even the inability to focus caused by the Celexa Almost 70% of americans take some type of antidepressant. What if there was something out there that could do everything that theses prescribed drugs do without all the long term effects? Mary Jane, weed, pot, and gas are all names for one naturally earth grown plant called, marijuana. Although people believe that marijuana may cause a drift in brain development or wonder how a medicine could be smoked, the legalization of marijuana will give doctors and Americans across the nation access to this life changing plant as well as positively impact millions of lives, medically and financially.
Marijuana is intentionally meant for medical use although, it is not legally used for recreational purposes. The medical use is to relax or heal any pain as for other nonmedical use are to ease the mind or just bluntly get high. Legalizing marijuana creates more positive effects such as: no harm and decreases the use of drugs that give negative side effects. The legalization of marijuana may be a new slow progression of a decrease in crimes and the increase in taxes.
In recent years no topic has stirred more controversy than the legalization of cannabis “marijuana” for private or medicinal purposes. From avid celebrity supporters like Cheech and Chong, to upcoming Presidential candidates Bernie Sanders, Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump, the legalization of marijuana is a highly debated issue in all levels of American society today. But restrictions on classified drugs, has been an issue that has plagued American society since its very beginnings. The country’s first attempt to limit the consumption of a classified drug occurred in 1919, when the Prohibition on alcohol was first enacted. The “Noble Experiment” as it was later called, officially began when in 1919 Congress introduced the National Prohibition Act or Volstead Act, which criminalized the
Dear editor, I am writing to you on the subject of Australia legalising the medicinal use of cannabis. I am of the firm stance that it should be legalised as soon as possible due to its incredible usefulness and lacklustre disadvantages and that if anything, more research must be done to better understand it.
What if one day there was a drug that magically cured or helped aid in the process of diseases, illnesses, you name it, but the government refused to let anyone use it. Marijuana, the most misunderstood and commonly used illicit drug on the planet. It is mostly used by both teens and young adults. The uses are endless when it comes to this drug but mainly used for medical reasons, socializing, or to possibly escape depression or reality. While plenty of people assume that the use of marijuana is harmful or dangerous, studies are still being done on long term effects. This is in fact an illegal drug, but no matter what the law says people will find a way to get their hands on it and use it. While other topics have come and gone, and a decision has been made for them, the legalization of marijuana doesn’t sit well with
Legalizing marijuana creates a new level of medical aid for those who are suffering from extreme pain, cancer patients, and epileptic patients. First, marijuana helps many people who endure a tremendous amount of pain.It has been proven by doctors that this drug helps people who are dealing with chronic nerve pain. It allows patients who are recovering from an injury or surgery manage their pain better and get more sleep at night. Therefore legalizing this drug will be of great assistance to people who are in plenty of pain. Second,
The United States economy has only been going downhill over the years. Our Current national debt is almost up to $18 trillion. Our government wastes so much Money every year on unassay things. All the levels of our government, federal, state, and local authorities, participate in the "War on Drugs" which spends billions of dollars every year to catch the peaceful people who enjoy smoking. The government locks these people up in prison and we, the taxpayers, have to pay for the housing, Health care, attorney fees, court costs, food, and all the other expenses it takes to get someone from court to jail. The legalization of marijuana would solve a lot of our nation’s problems and overall increase every Americans standard of living and make us a richer state.
There is currently an issue about the legalization of using marijuana. Study shows that as each year passes, more people want for marijuana use to be legalized not only for medical purposes, but others as well. According to a certain website (pewresearch), twenty-seven states have legalized the complete use of marijuana within the state. I believe that a controlled use of marijuana should be legalized, but that rules should still be strictly enforced, such as semi-random checks within the school the entire year.
When Marijuana is smoked, it will lower pressure within the eye resulting in the progression of the disease being slowed, preventing blindness. There are a few more medicinal purposes marijuana has been shown to possess. A study in 2003 from Virginia Commonwealth University suggests that the active ingredients in marijuana can control seizures by binding to the brain cells in control of excitement and relaxation. This also appears in the ‘Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics’. The Figi family has been treating their 5 year old daughter with a medical marijuana strain that is high in cannabidiol (CBD) and low in THC. Their daughter has a severe condition referred to as Dravet’s Syndrome which causes her to have about three hundred
One of the main uses of marijuana is for medical reasons. Marijuana contains a chemical called THC, which according to the Medicinal Marijuana Association, it makes marijuana “beneficial to patients suffering from illnesses such as AIDS, cancer, glaucoma, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries and many other serious, debilitating, or terminal conditions. The properties in marijuana can greatly relieve chronic pain associated with these illnesses” (Listland). By legalizing marijuana for medical purposes, patients who have suffered from severe chronic pain can have another
