Since 2003, keyless cars have existed on the market, but experts have found that the advantages have little effect when dealing with severe dangers. For example, these cars have been linked to everything from easy targets for theft to deadly carbon monoxide poisonings. A keyless car lets drivers start their vehicle using a button, and the car can sense when the automatic starter is near. Where the trouble comes in is that a gray line exists between when and how you turn off the car.
In one of the cases in New York City, a lawyer and his girlfriend suffered severe carbon monoxide poisoning. The lawyer died, and she experienced major brain damage as a result of the carbon monoxide. There is another case in Chicago, and there have been a couple deaths in Florida. The issue of keyless cars are becoming a big problem. Because a keyless entry system runs without noise, a lot of people do mistakenly believe they shut it off. When you pull your vehicle into the garage, you forget that you

Manufacturers have grown wise to this fact, which is why some have created an automatic shutoff when the key is not within the vehicle. Others use an audible alarm when you did not turn off the car. While the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration did propose a law in 2011, and they looked for methods of training people to turn off their keyless entry cars, we have still seen new change in the following four years and 27 complains have been filed since 2009.
No one has taken action, yet the fact remains that people are being hurt by this system. For that reason, people have been encouraged to file lawsuits because that could spark the attention concerning this deadly issue. Car makers have known about the risk, and they could have prevented 13 deaths if they had installed a life-saving but affordable feature for turning off engines that have been left
Imagine a future with zero car accidents and taking a nap while going down the road. Imagine a future where there are no drivers, only passengers. And not just that, but imagine not worrying about having accidents or high insurance payments. With driverless vehicles, car accidents will drastically diminish and insurance rates will decrease, meaning they could have a better impact on the economy. Driverless vehicles will benefit society given that they will reduce accidents, can improve traffic flow by enhancing its efficiency, and protect the environment from harmful fuel emissions.
As technology in automobiles continues to improve, the debate over driverless cars has become more frequent. A self-driving car is able to move and navigate on its own using sensors and programming technology without human control. Many people believe the development of driverless cars would be beneficial because they could reduce the risk of hitting another car. The sensors and navigation would be able to avoid accidents, while drivers usually get distracted and would be able to use their time leisurely in the car. A self-driving car may allow people to drive when unable to in the past, such as children and disabled persons, and can be more cost-effective due to cheaper insurance. However, self-driving cars could be extremely expensive and can easily malfunction and therefore not always reliable, while also decreasing the safety of pedestrians and children who may attempt to use the car without permission. With new technology and distractions, driver’s minds can easily wander and become preoccupied. Technology can easily malfunction, and something as small as my phone or a light bulb will glitch frequently. I often see cars stranded on the side of the road because the engine went out or broke down; imagine how catastrophic an accident could be if a sensor in the car went out. Driverless cars are not beneficial to society because while there are favorable aspects of a self-driving car, one can malfunction and add new risks to the road, as well as potentially hurting the
In a local news station called KCTV5 they did a report on an accident caused by texting and driving and this is what happened, “A 16-year-old girl has been charged with manslaughter, assault and texting while driving in connection with a September 2011 fatality collision. It's a moment the young driver can never take back, and one prosecutors said could have been avoided if she'd just put down her phone.” This is just plain sad that a 16 year old girl’s life just ruined because she choose to text and drive. Texting and driving is a humongous debate in our society because of how many people do it. People die due to texting and driving every day. people can go to jail for texting and driving and you can hurt other people. Texting and driving is dangerous and should be enforced.
So the technologies inside of cars can be anything from the power outlet in the ash try to locks that open when you get close to the car with the key fob. Well surely every car has a cigarette lighter in the ashtray and more than likely everyone
In the article Deaths in Hot Cars Nearly Triple, Steve Visser claims that the number of children who have died due to being left in hot car is quickly increasing in this year. There have been a lot of suggestions from experts about how to prevent these accidents, but a lot of similar cases still continue to happen. The claim of the article is explicit because it clearly and directly shows the topic which is the increase of hot-car deaths, the explanations, and the recommendations for the problem. The author gives some interview results to support his claim. For example, according to Amy Artuso, program manager for the council, there were 11 death cases in this year compared to 4 cases at the same time last year. Despite the fact that many parents
Having your phone with you driving has become a big part of our daily lives. While it is a great tool to have if there was an emergency, it’s also leading to our destruction. Every single day I watch in horror as driver’s text whilst they are driving. We have all heard for years that it is dangerous to use our phones while operating a motor vehicle, so why does a greater part of the population, mostly teens, continue to practice this dangerous act? I believe it is because the laws are not strict enough to be a deterrent.
First driverless cars are much less likely to crash. In fact “The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that between 93 percent and 95 percent of car accidents are caused by human error” (par. 5, Tribune). This study displays
There are still lots of problem researchers need to solve and improve on. But the whole idea of preventing drivers’ safety is absolutely positive and right. Maybe the researchers can create a tiny implant which is put into drivers’ brains that could force the drivers to use it all the time in the future, to achieve its aim of truly preventing drivers from accidents. Imagine how it looks like later, when you get to the car, it is already opened, and automatically closed when you leave them. Not only for cars, maybe they will also spread this technology on all the human devices like smartphone and computer.
Another reason is hackers can actually hack into the cars system and cause more accidents. I read that the trackers on the cars cost 10,000 dollars each but it took someone only 43 dollars to confuse the car.
Hands-free driving in Austin is a law that we have that does not allow a person behind the wheel to have any type of electronic device on hand, I do follow this law. Therefore, I have no reason to want it overturned. I don’t allow my driver to handle their phone while they are behind the wheel, and the car is moving. If they need to text, call or take a pic I take care of it. I’m hands-free because I am seated on the passenger side, therefore I can handle the electronic devices. The needs are met and there are fewer chances of either party getting hurt.
Self driving cars are not the way to go they are very treacherous in more ways than just one. Some articles one could get evidence from “PRO/CON: Is it time to hop in self-driving…” by Tribune News Service, talks about the pros and cons of the self driving cars, “Google allows man who is blind to test its...” By Ashley Halsey III and Michael Laris and it talks about how this blind guy get to drive this self driving car around, and another you could use is “Self-driving car technology still has a way…” By Scientific American and it is mainly about how they still have a lot of work to do with the cars. Self driving cars are not the way to go they are not safe and should not come to the US because they are not as safe as an actual person driving
With this in mind, driving a car is a great responsibility. A vehicle can be a deadly weapon if not used with serious precaution. Road work, bad weather conditions, or even technological anomalies can cause a catastrophe. To trust even the utmost sophisticated of machines seems
Although the self-driving car is relatively new in the world of technological advancement, they are coming to Portland, Oregon soon. While they are not widespread yet, Oregonians are concerned for various reasons. Once they arrive, many new laws must be created because of this new technology. The future impact of the self-driving car directly correlates to how safe people perceive the car. As of now, the cars and their ability to sense pedestrians are improving. However, the technology is not error-proof. Overcoming the widespread opinion and assumption that the cars are dangerous will be an extremely large hurdle for the self-driving car to defeat before people will consider using the self-driving function of cars that exist right now. Generally, to gain popularity among the community, self-driving cars must be able to prove that they can
As many have heard via uncertain whispers and hallway talk, Google has been inventing and manufacturing a “no hands” car for over six years. Now, in 2015, a prototype has been produced and tested by not only the Google Team but community volunteers. The car, approximately the size of a mini-cooper, seats two people and has been tested by hundreds on testing roads and even real roads and highways now. For some, the idea of being out of control is frightening, but to others, it is extra time to relax or get things done. Beyond convenience or even fears, the Google Driverless Car is an incredible way to reduce the millions of deaths each year due to drunk driving, falling asleep at the wheel, new drivers on the road, and texting and driving. People
Self driving cars have the potential to completely revolutionize the way public transportation continues in our society; many are for it and even more are against it. It is fair to say that this is a great invention and that in some cases it can serve as a safer way of transportation (only in certain situations) as well as make for a more dangerous one. Tesla is a worldwide known company and although the company did not invent driverless cars, they did most definitely perfect it. Having the most technologically advanced vehicle in the world that can predict accidents before they even happen, it is a safe bet to trust the Tesla autopilot feature. The majority of the population believe that it will be nothing but beneficial to our society and provide us with safer streets and highways. But there is much more than meets the eye when it comes to this new technology.
