As a citizen of the United States of America I am well aware of the constitutional rights and the values it holds to most citizens. As we take a look into the argument of forced service of at least 1 year before the age of 30 for every individual citizen, we can see many argumentative debates that should be considered. First of all, if service is forced for as long as up to 1 year, I do believe it should be paid. For people must have a way to survive and provide for themselves and their families. However, forced service defeats the purpose of calling it volunteer work and weakens the joys that true volunteers experience as they serve out of the goodness of their hearts. Therefore, turning generosity into obligation and undermining
“Should the United State of America adopt the idea that every American citizen should serve at least 2 years in the military?”, in my opinion, this is a terrible idea. America is “The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave”. Going into the military should be a personal choice. What would this benefit anyways? This is, in my opinion, a bad idea, this would change the course of America’s history as we know it.
The legal age limit to have full legal liberties in America should be eighteen and not twenty one. If one is able to serve their country in the military and fight in a foreign land, legally marry another adult individual, and smoke cigarettes, then they should also be able to legally consume alcohol, own a hand gun, rent a car, and gamble at the age of eighteen. These legal liberties are granted according to age and not one’s intellectual capacity or maturity to make a sound decision. If one has sound judgment and realizes that they will be held legally accountable for their actions then the age should not restrict privileges. Therefore, if one is enlisted to defend their country
Compulsory National Service was accepted by many Americans back when the nation was starting to become a powerhouse and wars were beginning to emerge. However, forcing young adults to join or at least register for the military at the age of 18 or is wrong because it is against their free will, they may have a different career path in mind that could be disrupted if a war is to emerge and it will affect their mental state and they could be diagnosed with PTSD.
There is a flaw in that theory. In the military they train to follow direction like machine. And they will not be able to make decision without someone thinking for them. How can they become patriot if the being forces to serve. This law will only lead to those young people to their death or mental problems later in the near
National service typically means compulsory military service during peace times. Otherwise known as conscription, but the term can also include service in the education and health sectors. National service is a contentious issue with the rise in terrorist attacks and resultant increased fear of different groups of people. This essay will argue that no form of national service should be compulsory. Following from this introduction, Part II will focus on the societal benefits of compulsory military service. Part III will then examine the negative impacts. Part IV examines the balance between the benefits and detriments of conscription. Finally, Part V will discuss national service in the context of public service. I will examine whether adoption of the expansive meaning of national service alters the balance between the benefits and detriments.
Over the course of American history the United States military has been in need of more able bodied men to fight for the security of the nation than it has had. George Washington needed men during the Revolutionary era, George W. Bush needed men after the events of 9-11, and the next president will need men to continue the fight on terrorism. America has been reactive in their efforts to maintain a well-regulated military by only calling upon healthy able bodied men during times of war. When in fact, America, should have been proactive by keeping a well-trained and well-staffed military on hand at all times. Every able-bodied male should serve at least four years in the United States Armed Forces because the United States need protection at any given moment. The security of the United States is more important than ones right to choose to be in the Armed Forces. The rights of the people of the United States will not exist if there is not enough able-bodied males to protect those rights. Of course, non-able-bodied males should be excluded from this. A law to force every male to join the Armed Forces would go too far.

I think every U.S citizen should be required to serve at least one year in the military, once they are over the age of eighteen. If every U.S citizen serves at least one year in the military, they will be more diciplined, and will learn self-defense. The militaryis harsh, but every one of the soldiers are diciplined. Yes, the military is dangerous and their are casualties, but if every United States citizen serves at least one year in the military, the world will be a more respectful, diciplined place. Secondly, by serving in the military it will also benefit every person by teaching them self-defense. Self-defense will help us because we can protect ourselves against anyone trying to harm us. Serving in the military will also
Every able-bodied American should be required to serve a minimum of two years of military service. We are the first line of defense; whether it be of our county or ourselves. Many are more than willing to turn this responsibility over to someone else. As a society, we are soft, distrustful of one other, thin-skinned, easily distracted, and unwilling to take personal responsibility for our actions. Mandated military service will help establish a more committed nation that is resilient, respectful of rights and freedoms, will enter adulthood with practical work experience and better physical fitness standards. I will inform you of each way military service would be beneficial for the general population.
If the United States went along with the proposal of “free” college, taxpayers would have to pay 62.6 billion dollars over a one year time period. (Weissmann). When a person hears the words, “free college” they would probably think of it as an amazing opportunity for everyone in the United States to have the option to attend college tuition-free. However, there is no such thing as free college, and if the US were to make taxpayers pay tuition, this would only create more problems and weaken the point of even going to college. If everyone had access to getting the same degree without paying tuition, the degree itself would not have as much worth because so many people would have it. Not to mention, if no one had to pay tuition fees, colleges would be flooded with students. The idea of free college should not be enacted because it would raise taxes, make college degrees less
The United States faces many ethical issues with the age of enlistment in the military as time passes with each generation. Most American citizens do not agree with some the laws the government sets in place. People often argue that the majority of the time, the government is looking out for what is best for the country instead of the people. Critics consistently claim that the military should raise the age of enlisting for military service until 21. Parents and adults believe that the military should should raise the age requirement because parents believe that young adolescents are not ready for join military service at such a young age. Studies suggest that most teenagers’ minds do not completely develop until they are in their 20’s. Changing the age of enlistment would protect teenagers and increase the military’s capabilities.
If the United States makes a mandatory law stating that you have to do a year on service by the age of 30, It will take the enjoyment and fulfuilling-ness out of volunterring. The first passage states that "It creates a sense of mutual responsibility for each person's right to happiness". What if thats not someones happiness? What if thats the complete oppitsite of what someone wants to do? This will take the
What right do we truly have to claim our freedom? Have we earned it? Have we worked for it? Have we toiled and struggled and served in exchange for freedom? The answer for most is no. The majority of citizens in the United States do not feel obligated to work for their freedom, which can be considered problematic for our nation’s future. Would military service in exchange for earned freedom and citizenship be a solution to this problem? Or could an argument be made that there is no problem at all? Opinions on this subject differ drastically from person to person.
Another benefit of mandating the service of young adults is that they would be disciplined and setup for success in life as a productive citizen of the United States. Military boot camp is designed to break the recruit down to where they are not better than any other recruit, and then they train them to do their best in every task they approach. This creates unrivaled discipline and extreme excellence in every operation the United States military executes. Not only will this be useful while in military service, but also when they begin to operate in the working world. This requirement will unify the working force as a result of the mandated service. Businesses will be able to work efficiently and accurately in all that they accomplish. Again, this will improve the United States as a country. Why would the United States refuse this mandate? The only reason would be that they bring the law down to the lowest denominator of the few people who argue with the benefits. These people might say that not all people are designed to be in the military. However, the military has jobs for every make and model. Every talent is useful to the military. Making young adult serve in the military for two years would actually give them time to figure out what their future career is meant to be. Some people cannot ever be satisfied, and would object to anything! On the contrary, decisions that have the abundance of benefits as mandating service for young
Some individuals do not realize how privileged they may be, while some individuals’ live in a bubble and thinks that everyone lives lavish or swell like they do. However, this is not the case. In the United States of American there are approximately forty-five million people or in other words there are about fourteen point fiver percent of people who live below the poverty line. That number may seem not that drastic to you, because you may not come from a household that is considered to be poor, but this level of inequality is not right. Coming form a middle class or upper class home, having a roof over your head, clothing on your back, shoes on your feet and being able to eat more than one full meal a day makes you privileged! Instead of keeping your privilege to yourself, ways in which, you are able to give back to not only your community, but other communities as well. Is through community service.
