For many years, people have always debated upon the correct orientation of the toilet paper roll. Now, as this may seem like a foolish topic, it has been the base of many heated arguments between spouses, roommates, and friends.
Some studies have shown that a person’s personal preference of orientation is directly related to their personality and share similar character traits. For instance, people who rather the toilet paper to drape over the roll are more serious, and an over-achiever. If you like your roll to be under, than you are seen as more laid back and more care free.
Psychological studies have shown similarities of choice depending on things such as race, age, social class/status, gender, etc. However, the subject is of general interest
decisions. Personal and societal factors are highly related. Choices affect social structure and vice versa.
Esteemed teacher at Elk Grove High School was arrested Thursday morning. Two Elk Grove police officers barged in on her first class of the day not only to find that she had controlled substances on her, but she also tried planting them on a student in said class.
Hey everyone, its that time of the year again. Cardboard nation is just a few weeks away so I am taking donations for it. All the money goes to Warm Blessings to help fund it and to help fight homelessness in our area. If anyone is wanting to give a donation and help sponsor me for it I would be grateful. If you aren't sure of what Cardboard Nation is. It is where members of our community all go to ECTC by the fire tower and we are given a small glimpse of what it is like to be homeless. We are given a box to sleep in for the night to simulate what kind of challenges go along with it. We are given a very light meal usually consisting of a sandwich and a little soup. We are not allowed to bring electronics or anything that could be considered
Pennies should not be made anymore. The penny costs more to make then they are worth. It’s not worth carrying around, it’s to bulky. The penny could round prices down.
The wind was whipping fiercely when Nikki Maratea, her younger sister Alex, and Nikki's 3-week-old son Derrian went to catch an elevated train in Philadelphia near the home they shared with their mother. Thinking she had put the brake on the stroller, Nikki, 20, let it go to argue with the cashier, who insisted she pay the $2 fare before moving to the platform. A moment later Alex, then 10, looked toward her nephew—but he and his stroller were gone. "I said, 'Nikki,'" Alex recalls, "'where's the baby?'" They could hear Derrian's cries, but saw no sign of him. "Then," Alex says, "I looked down." What she saw was a nightmare: The stroller, blown by the wind, was lying on the tracks, about four
It takes a lot to rip apart a town. It takes a lot to ravage a community, particularly one as tightly-knit as Ridgway, Pennsylvania. Nestled snugly at the southeastern edge of Allegheny National Forest, Ridgway’s population has dipped to just below four thousand in recent years, though in its 191 years of settlement, it’s never once been called home by more than roughly six thousand people at once. Its proximity to the forest attracts huntsmen and hikers alike, but unless one were actively looking for the town—the square mileage of which comes in at just over two and a half miles, total—it would be remarkably easy for Ridgway to not make a blip on someone’s radar at all. It’s small, out of the way, and most of all, quiet—a recipe for insignificance.
Women should never be held back by their husbands because they are women. Charlotte Perkins Gilman is an author from Connecticut who wrote the story “The Yellow Wallpaper.” She was a utopian feminist during a time period when her accomplishments were exceptional for women. In “The Yellow Wallpaper,” the narrator (identified as Jane) suffers from depression following the birth of her baby. Her husband diagnoses her with hysteria and prescribes “the rest cure.” Trapped at home, Jane grows bored. She’s set away from everyone but her husband and nurse, and she’s not allowed to write, though this makes her feel better. Her condition quickly worsens. She starts to
There are many high schools that elementary eighth-grade students apply to, and hope that they get accepted to one of the high schools that they applied to. However, I have chosen Taft as my high school. Taft high school is “located in the Norwood Park neighborhood on the northwest side of Chicago, Illinois” (en.wikipedia.org) , I have been a student at Taft high school for three years (I’m a Junior) but I still have one year to go before I graduate from Taft high school. Furthermore, in the Taft high school website it states that “Taft High School is an authorized IB World School. International Baccalaureate World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to improving the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering a challenging and high-quality program of international education” (www.tafths.org). Taft high school has proven it’s an IB school and a wall-to-wall International Baccalaureate high school. Since the past three years, Mark Grishaber the principal of Taft high
Anyone would be hard-pressed to find a politician in recent years who has been elected to a national office without promising to improve education and focus their efforts on the betterment of their constituents’ children. Many of these politicians have succeeded at passing legislation to do so, but the latest of these, the Common Core standards initiative, is facing a very important query right now: does it work in America? Although Common Core is very well intentioned and in selective ways could be considered a success, there are many failures to consider as well. When dealing with such education, a vital issue, these failures must be dealt with. In order to ensure not only an equal education but also one of higher quality which the citizenry
First, to smudge, one needs a smudge stick. I personally have a sage and cedar smudge stick. Ultimately, smudging is burning a sacred cleansing herb or herbs for rituals, cleansing, and purification. First, you burn the smudge, either by crumbling some of the smudge stick into a bowl or by burning the stick itself. It is the smoke that is important. You then wave the smoke over whatever you want to cleanse, be it an item or a room, using your hand or a feather. When you are done, put the smoke out with earth or sand, and make sure that it is out completely.
Throughout the video, Joe Smith uses various opinions and facts to persuade viewers to save paper towels. For starters, he uses an opinion by stating that we could reduce the usage of paper. This is an opinion since it is subjective because Smith cannot prove that everyone will save paper. Therefore, the statement about reducing paper is a generalization since there is no guarantee that everyone will try to reduce paper. Furthermore, he uses hedging by using the word "we could" which is used to prevent some audiences from becoming offended that some of them might incapable of saving paper towel. Another opinion is that he states that the audience can save paper towels by just using one paper. This can be proven as an opinion from using the
I don't know how many times I have used my friend's bathroom and there is no more toilet paper on the roll. Maybe it is just me and I have bad luck when it comes to using the toilet, but come on. What am I supposed to do now? It's times like these where your true creativity comes in handy. The bathroom becomes an I spy game. The hardest I spy game there is, searching and searching to hopefully find the answer you have been looking for. I, however, am not creative. I spy was never really my game either. I just simple use the empty roll and hope it will suffice. Its reasons like this why I no longer use my friends or public bathrooms because at least at my house, I can search around comfortable for toilet

The concept of toilet paper is genius. The concept allows us to grab, and rip of a piece without touching the next piece. No one wants to get gross bathroom germs. Common illnesses, like a stomach bug, pass through bathrooms, and fungi like, athlete’s foot, occur in the bathroom from walking bare foot. Everyone gets the stomach bug at sometime, but most think of contracting the disease from being near someone that has it. In fact you get from being in a germ-filled bathroom. Imagine all of the times your mom told you to go wash your hands after you went to the bathroom, it’s because the bathroom can be a gross place. Things like toilet paper help us stay clean and reduce the amount of germs spread in the bathroom. Also, down there, it does a great job. I can walk around freely, after I do my business without worrying about stench, for I know toilet paper did a good job. I personally use Scott’s brand toilet paper, which I highly recommend. It’s very soft, and also very strong.
As the United States deals with the overwhelming amounts of waste building up, Nitin et al explain that “plastics take anywhere from 15 to 1000 years to biodegrade” once they are discarded (Nitin). Changes in recycling methods can no longer keep up with the exorbitant amount of waste produced in the United States. This is why some states choose to take their initiative one step further by placing either fees or a ban on the use of plastic bags. Due to the enormous waste the United States produces on a daily basis and the negative outcomes of this trash including adverse health effects, harmful impacts on nature, and the exponential piling of trash in landfills, the US government should ban plastic bags.
