Religion was discovered back in 2000 BC and is considered to be a trait common to cultures worldwide to this day. Some use religion as a way to cope, to connect, but few could use religion as a weapon against others. Since religion began, over 195,035,000 lives have been lost in tragedies brought on in the name of faith. Regardless of the brutality religion has created, it has also caused others to come together in order to speak out. As a result of religions regression in society, humans are able to progress for the sake of defending human rights. Christianity is one of the largest religions to stand with more than 2.22 billion followers. However, not all Christians share the same stance on issues, whether it be political or moral. An example would be the Westboro Baptist Church; a hate group known for its hostility towards those who do not meet up to their standards, specifically members of the LGBT, Catholics, American soldiers, and Muslims. The church originally received national attention in October, 1998, for picketing the funeral of a man named Matthew Shepard who was beaten and tortured for being gay. Romaine Patterson, a friend of Shepard’s, recalled that she couldn’t take her eyes off of the neon signs that read, “God Hates Fags”, “Matt in Hell”, and “AIDS Cures Fags”. From there, the church had displayed Shepard in their memorial section on their website. The page states that the church does not support the fact he was murdered, but that they picketed in order
Religion and death are inseparable; religion is a guiding line from life to death and past it. There is evidence all over Mexico, which shows the first rituals to celebrate and honor the dead. Humanity is shaped deeply by religion and religion is shaped by society. Religion is used to construct and understand the world, including death. The preservation of the dead since ancient times shows the importance which was placed on the body and the need for the body to be intact when moving to the next realm.
Is Christianity separate from religion? The debate on the separation and difference of the two based on facts and many different sources from videos to books to a random link on the web to build a base of reasons why they are together or not. Remember this is not a debate on the reality of either just a debate on their coexistence.
Religion can be defined as a pursuit or interest to which someone ascribes supreme importance. It contains a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices that allow its followers to live their life a certain way. The world consists of 19 major religions, which are further subdivided into 270 larger groups. According to David Barrett et al, editor of the “World Christian Encyclopedia,” there are 34,000 separate Christian groups around the world. Just from those numbers alone, we can conclude that religion has a prevalent effect on people and society. Religion is viewed as a positive influence on an individual both psychologically and physically. Throughout history we can study the various effects that religion has on society. Studies generally provide great evidence in favor of religion having a positive effect on individuals and society as a whole.
“It’s all connected,” Sage said. “Education has been one of the biggest drivers behind liberal social engineering. Progressives figured out a long time ago that if the poor and needy can rely on government, they won’t need the church. And, more broadly, Americans have been conditioned to believe that if they pay high taxes, the government will take care of everything. With faith in government, why do we need faith in God? All we have to do is pay our taxes, and then run around without any meaningful accountability or personal responsibility to hold us back. Without the moral accountability to faith in God, Americans can do whatever they want – it’s party time: Homosexuality, adultery, pornography – go for it, if it feels good, why not? Gay

The First Amendment of the American Constitution was established in 1789, and was later revised in 1992. Over the last 228 years of the amendment’s existence, claims of rights being compromised within the sub articles of the amendment, have arose. Court cases have been filed over the years regarding the sub articles of the amendment with various outcomes. Some examples include; Reynolds v. the United States for Freedom of Religion, Bethel School District v. Fraser for Freedom of Speech, Hazelwood School District v. Kuhlmeier for Freedom of Press, Boy Scouts of America v. Dale for Freedom of Association, and McDonald v. Smith for Freedom of Petition. The First Amendment is being compromised, where Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Press, Freedom of Association, and Freedom of Petition rights are being limited.
Evolution and creationism are one of the biggest debates Christians face when defending their faith. To most Christians, evolution is a theory and is not true at all. Though sharing the same DNA with an ape may make evolution seem true Creation backs up all the facts without leaving any gaps.
Religion was created to inspire and give people hope for a better life by worshiping a supernatural deity. However, in today’s society the world has manipulated and shaped the concept of religion into something other than a type of betterment of the human race. Humans are born into this world untouched, it is not until they become a certain age when they are lead into the manipulative cycle of religion. Religion has morphed from hope and explanations to an excuse for violence, an excuse for exploitation, and an excuse to ignore factual, scientific, evidence.
For several people, religion is the most important aspect of their life, and they probably inherit the majority of their beliefs and values from their religion. Considering religious freedom being one of the main reasons the United States of America was formed, it is only expected that it would be heavily discussed. In the United States of America, religion is protected by numerous amendments and laws, but what some people consider protection others consider imposition. People begin to wonder if the protection implemented is excessive and if it could possibly be harmful to others. As a result, debates on the issue are formed constantly. A prominent debate in place currently is the debate of whether or not using religious and personal beliefs to deny service to LGBTQ people is unconstitutional has implemented conflict in groups ranging from the LGBTQ community to religious organizations.
Religion. It is not an easy thing to define. According to dictionary.com, the definition of religion is, “a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects”. While this definition is adequate for a dictionary, it barely scratches the surface of answering the question, “what is religion?” As a Christian it is hard viewing religion without the lens of Christianity. It would also be hard for someone of another belief, not to view religion through their own lens. Much of the world would view religion as being relative. For example, religions means something different to each person. While each person or belief system would give you a different definition of religion, I want to focus on the common
The opposite of science is commonly regarded to as religion. Scientific discoveries have been challenging the established religions throughout history and have played a severe role in science's influence in multiple generations. For example, during Copernicus's time, society was amidst an era of reformation and rebellion where catholic authority was being questioned, especially with important figures such as Martin Luther and astronomers such as Copernicus having such a power voice to society. the famous astronomer, Galileo, was shunned by the Catholic church for endorsing the theory that the earth revolved around the sun. Centuries later, Charles Darwin's ideas of evolution clashed with the ideas of the majority of religious people. This lead to the
Approximately eight-in-ten people identify with some form of a religious group worldwide (Global). In a demographic study conducted in 2013 by the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion & Public Life, more than 230 countries were estimated to have 5.8 billion religiously affiliated people nationally (Global). This large statistic represents 84% of the 2013 world population, which at that time was 6.9 billion (Global). Religion has an immense presence in this world, but it also has a huge impact on the society that surrounds it. Contributing not only to the good of society, religion has also been used to disrupt and cause chaos. Impacting society positively, religion not only provides individuals with a moral framework for their lives, but it also brings communities together and gives them hope in difficult situations. However, in contrast religion can impact society negatively, by inspiring conflict, and those that rely on religion too much may become passive to reality. As much as religion draws people together, it can also tear them apart.
Is religion worth arguing about? The columnists both agreed on one thing that the answer to that questions is “yes”. They felt that by arguing the matter, knowledge of the subject will grow, and a rational examination of the subject will lead to truth. They both agree that the philosophy of reasoning is important when discussing or debating religion. Mr. Hicks feels it is the only way, and Mr. Wright feels it should be a combination of reasoning with faith.
Religion has guided the most troubled soul to the light. When an individual feels he or she can no longer exist on earth religion puts on its red cape and shining armor to comfort the lost soul. Many wars, battles, and kingdoms were forged in the name of religion. While faith may have illuminated the dark days it also caused rifts between nations. There are several different beliefs and creeds that govern the lives of individuals. Many people were slayed in the name of religion. Individuals that didn’t follow a certain faith were persecuted in the name of religious conviction. Religion has caused several wars throughout history and has left nations war torn.
For the past centuries religion has been a major force in the world and still continues to be one as there are billions of people that believe and follow a certain religion, but sadly religion has had a largely negative impact on the world today. As people continue to view religion in an unrealistic positive manner they continue to be deceived about its negative impact. During recent years there have been many headlines about how religion influenced people in performing terrible acts that oppress people or result in many lives being lost. Religion today is deeply embedded in people’s daily lives and plays a large role in countries, therefore when religion negatively impacts the world it affects millions of people worldwide and results in
