When someone says marijuana, many people tend to have a negative reaction. Most associate it with dropping grades in school and lowered success in the workplace. Can cannabis be a good thing though? It has gone largely underappreciated for its medicinal value. It has been known to successfully treat many neurological disorders, when other medications failed. It has been most successful in areas such as: neurological disorders, pain relief, and as a treatment for the side effects of chemotherapy. Medical marijuana is a very helpful treatment for many neurological conditions, which in spite of some opposition can be very effective when used properly. While it is still in the developmental stages, some believe that it is possible to genetically engineer special strains of cannabis or use certain kinds of its extract to minimize the harmful effects it can have on patients. Medical marijuana has proven very useful as a pain killer for chronic pain associated with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and “neuropathic” issues. In some studies it has been shown to improve the discomfort associated with a variety of health conditions including spasticity and stomach conditions (Groenhermen). It was even found that some strains of the medication were more effective as treatment for pain, including Gumbi (Consumer Reports). Overall, marijuana was seen as a successful treatment in the case of pain relief.
In addition to treating pain,
For years there have been debates on weather or not marijuana should be legalized. Now the controversial issue we face is the legalization of medical marijuana. Currently several states such as California and most recently Michigan has legalized marijuana for medicinal purposes. Many people believe that this drug should be legalized for medical use, and others disagree. Either way you look at this situation people are going to continuing smoking marijuana if it’s legal or not. Keeping marijuana illegal is expensive and should be legalized for the citizens of Ohio who require it for its medicinal use.
In the United States, we have enacted numerous bans and restrictions against certain drugs and substances with the purpose of protecting the general public from their negative effects. On this list of illegal drugs are harmful and addictive substances such as cocaine, methamphetamines, and heroin. A substance called cannabis, also known as marijuana, is also on this list. As of now, it is illegal to buy, sell, possess, or use marijuana in any shape or form in the state of Louisiana. However, due to the advancement of technology and of human perspective and innovation, it has come to light that marijuana could actually be of benefit to our society through its medicinal uses in treating a range of conditions and diseases as well as its possible social benefits in helping individuals stray from heavier drugs by acting as a substitute. Now that the wheels of time are turning and that medical marijuana is becoming a budding industry, the question remains: should marijuana be legal all across the United States of America? With the benefits it could bring with its medical, social, and economic uses, marijuana could be a profitable asset to our society if it were to be legalized, and I believe that we should strive for that outcome.
“For me, the medical marijuana was a miracle drug, a life saver. I wish I had used it from the beginning because it was so helpful, and according to our current law, I should go to jail for it”, said Jeanette Bokland a nurse, dealing with cancer. Jeannette said she tried everything, then she got ahold of medical marijuana, and ate it because, “I do not want to smoke anything”. She is so happy she got ahold of medical marijuana, it took away my nausea, restlessness, anxiety said Jeanette Bokland. Our nation estimates 2,434,192 medical marijuana smokers; (Number of Legal) like Jeanette medical marijuana does help some patients dealing with cancer. It did not get her “high” it made her feel halfway normal. Jeanette was helped tremendously by
The medical marijuana debate is an interesting one because there’s such a wide diversity of opinions and views that oppose each other. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency classifies marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug. They consider these drugs to have no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse and to be some of the most dangerous drugs, because they’re highly addictive and may cause severe psychological or physical dependence. Other Schedule 1 drugs include heroin, LSD, ecstasy and meth. Many who are against marijuana believe the drug is dangerous, harmful and feel it should remain illegal.
Morgan Freeman, a well known actor who has played the voice of God not once but twice, supports the legalization of marijuana not only for both its recreational and medical uses. Many people are having problems with this idea because they think that we, as a people, are going to send the wrong message to our young people. In my own opinion I believe that recreational marijuana should be used as it has many uses such as helping the economy, providing jobs, opening a person’s mind, helping with depression and stress, as well as unlocking creativity.
The debate for years \that has divided the question is weather not any good. Many states have legalized medicinal marijuana. The states that have legalized has it helped or has come from its use. What is the purpose? What should the guidelines be? The Medical board and the Government have hopes that in legalizing it, medical marijuana will help those with diseases to be able to cope much easier. However, the determination of which ones that should be allowed to have the okay to be able to use it. Even though some people may argue against medicinal marijuana use and legalization, there are too many reasons why it should be.
All of America should be concerned about this situation because it effects the economy of agriculture and medical industries. The production of hemp could be an alternative and more sustainable way than our current method of deforestation. Medical marijuana may be a safer and better alternative to some of the drugs on the market today. The audience for this paper will be for people who want to stand-up for themselves and not to just believe what people say not even myself but to go out and find out for themselves the effects these plants can have for our country, economy, and our planet as a whole. Voters, protestors, and anybody in politics need to read the important information to
The legalization for marijuana is one of the most controversial topic in government. I support the legalization for marijuana for medical purposes. While the research for medical marijuana has not yet given enough evidence to support comprehensive legalization, I believe it will have more positives then negatives in peoples lives. Physicians and medical scientist are skeptical about legalization because they are unsure about all the affects of the substance on people. However the research on neurological disorders have shown positive results thus far.
Medical marijuana is commonly taken to reduce chronic pains in the United States. Studies of the cannabis plant show its especial effect against neuropathic pain (nerve pain) that is caused by diabetes or spinal stenosis. Patients with neurological disorders as multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injuries are benefit for
However, medical and scientific research have shown marijuana to be more effective in treating pain and curing diseases than less natural alternatives. Patients and doctors can benefit significantly from the medical use of marijuana. In “The Cannabis Revolution: Medical Benefits”, the author, an advocate of medical marijuana, details the influence of marijuana on health and provides evidence for its medical benefits, presenting the case for the legalization of medical marijuana. Holt discusses pertinent topics such as how the drug can lower intraocular pressure and inhibit glaucoma disease progression, how it can provide pain relief via chemotherapy-induced nausea and how it can help for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), mental illnesses, HIV, cardiorespiratory disorders, neurological disorders and even pregnancy. His text serves both as a resource material for health advocates whose goal it is to be certified cannabis counselors and as a reference book for students and individuals desiring to be better informed about the plant as he seeks to update readers and concerned individuals about the developments in the study of cannabis, dismissing archaic views and unscientific
Medical marijuana is very a big and controversial issue in today's society, currently the community is divided on the issue. Questions are always being thrown around such as "how does marijuana affect the body?" and "what good does’ marijuana do for a person?" Researchers have tried to answer these questions with multiple studies and they have shown some of the positives of medical marijuana. If something is able to help someone who is in dire need why not use it on those people to find a better solution for them. I myself am on the supportive side of the issue of medical marijuana. I don't think it should be legal to just anyone though I believe there should be a legal age law, a driving while under the influence, and a public intoxication law in effect for medical marijuana to be legal.
The use of marijuana has been a controversial topic for quite some time now, but is this only because people are looking at it from a point of recreational use? Have you ever felt pain, nausea/ vomiting, loss of appetite the way a cancer patient has? Envision not being able to eat because you want to throw up everything, or have pain caused by nerve damage. Cancer patients go through these things and more daily. They don’t have the appetite to eat or are in too much pain to even think about eating or prepare their own meals. I believe that with the use of Medical Marijuana this has changed. Marijuana should be used in medical treatment of ill patients that will benefit from it.
Legal marijuana has been in debate for decades. Whether it be for medical purposes or recreational purposes. I’m going to be going over the medical benefits in this argument. Take this hypothetical situation to mind. There are 2 girls sitting in line for a roller coaster ride. Both were very prone to epilepsy seizures in the past. In both cases when they are sitting in line they start having an episode. In one case the girl’s mom is able to pull out a THC pen because there in a legal state and give her a dose. She calms down and the family is able to spend the rest of the day having fun at the amusement park. In the other case, they are in a state where medical marijuana is still illegal. When she has her episode, the mom has to go get medical attention. They end up being rushed to the hospital and instead of spending the day at the park, they are spending it in the hospital. Marijuana has had little research done on it due to law issues; However, with new states becoming legal, the full medical potential in marijuana will soon be known.
Marijuana has been used around the world for thousands of years to treat a wide variety of ailments. Chinese emperor Shen Nung was the first to record marijuana as a medical drug in 2737 B.C. He documented the drug’s effectiveness in treating the pains associated with rheumatism and gout. The legalization of medical marijuana has long been debated within American society and Government. Marijuana was a legal source for medicines in the U.S. until the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937, which federally prohibited marijuana. Prior to the enactment of the Marijuana Tax Act, there were at least twenty-seven legal medicines that contained marijuana available in the U.S. In 1970, The Controlled Substances Act placed marijuana into a
The use of Medical Marijuana is a widely argued and criticized issue that is at the forefront of issues affecting our community and lives in this day and age. During my search for and against the use and legalization of Marijuana, I have been able to find extensive research which either supports or opposes the belief that Medical Marijuana should be an available option for medical treatment and the recreational use of it. I have committed myself to maintain an open mind while researching both the pro and con on the use of Marijuana, and have concluded that Medical Marijuana should be available for use. As for my opinion on the recreational use of Marijuana I have yet to decide whether it should be legal.
