A bright light for people caught in the shadows of affluence.
A community orientated service opened in Dee why on Sydney’s northern beaches to help those people forgotten among the beaches reputation for affluence.
Grace City Church based in Dee why has recently opened a community food care. The shop has attracted the local community’s low income earners with “in excess of 120 registrations in the beginning months, displaying the voluminous need of the people in the area” said Amiee Wang.
The Grace City community food care is a not for profit organization that focuses on helping with individuals and families that are struggling and hidden in the shadow of affluence associated with the northern beaches. Grace city care director Mike Irving says “there are so many people under the surface of the beaches who are struggling, these are the people that we often aren’t thinking about” in a response as to what type of people come through community food care Amiee Wang said “all sorts, Islanders, Tibetans, Caucasians, young, old, lonely, fragile, those with immediate acute needs and those with ongoing needs. It’s amazing that in a so-called well to do part of Sydney there is so much need driven to a large degree by high cost of living; housing and rentals. We have over 300 registered customers now. The requirements for registration is a referral from government assistance programs requiring a concession card, or from independent organizations such as The Single Parent Family Association Inc. Whilst registration is a requirement “the church will allow people to purchase and register without referrals if they are in needs” said Ms Wang who assisted Mr Irving in setting up the
Sociologist Janet Poppendieck‟s work on hunger and emergency food services provides crucial historical grounding and theoretical framing for this discussion, while placing these short-lived programs in conversation with food politics at the turn of the 21st century.25 The Panthers‟ close practical alliance with community churches, which often housed the free breakfasts, fosters easy comparisons between the Survival Programs and the charity work often conducted by religious organizations. But in contrast to many church-run soup kitchens or food pantries that provide an outlet for congregants to act charitably toward their less fortunate brethren, the Panthers were not driven by charitable aspirations, which Poppendieck points out often actually
Mary’s operates and how it provides an effect to those that go in and help. Finding an organization that helps out the community in many different ways, from helping those in need with jobs, food, probation and many other struggles. St. Mary’s food Bank is an organization that can change lives and one that does change lives on a daily basis. This sparks an interest into the inner workings of St. Mary’s and those that put their time out on a table for others to benefit from and draw a sense of hospitality from. I am glad that I chose the food bank because it has such a positive reaction from the entire community. No matter what demographic, everyone can use help every now and again.
Can you imagine ever performing on Broadway? Let me go a step further and ask if you could ever imagine performing in the Broadway show Chicago? To feel the excitement of performing for the longest-running American musical in Broadway history. Broadway shows may not be for everyone, but it truly says something when a show is completely sold out and not one single person is left sitting down at the end of the play.
Pune is the 9th most populous city in India with a population of over 3 lakh, there are many homeless people too. According to recent survey by Pune Municipal Corporation there are 854 people living and sleeping on footpaths in the city. “Feed the hungry” organization feeds hungry homeless people with quality food twice a week. Feed the Hunger is a non profit organization that was formed in 2010 by group of senior citizens: Prem Coelho, Keshav and Meena Pinto. Prem Coelho got the idea first; when she shared with her group of friends they all agreed and are happy to work for this. Initially it just started with three members and used to feed the hungry on every Tuesday i.e., once in a week. Then many people started volunteering the organization. Now its completely a team of 20 members divided
Zion ministries. Again, there was no assurance that those who needed the food the most were served. Many of the same faces that came through the lines headed to another giveaway taking places a half-mile from the church. The church can state that they have performed their duty of community outreach by participating in these type programs. My question is what happens to the hungry in these communities the other 364 days of the year?

The City of God is based on actual events that occurred in Rio de Janeiro during the 1960’s and 1970’s. The movie is about the rise and fall of a fearsome sociopath gang leader Li’l Ze, who reigned as king of the drug lords during the 70’s. The first part of the movie illustrates some of the forces that mold Li’l Ze into the man he becomes, while the second half shows his ruthless leap to power, followed by the war he wages against opposing gang leaders Carrot and Knockout Ned. The film is narrated by Rocket, a photographer who exists on the outskirts of Li’l Ze’s circle of dominance and control. In the film the city is filled with ruthless acts of delinquency and is basically in

Many people in our country go hungry every single day. Impoverished neighborhoods are often hit the hardest, especially during an economic downturn. By identifying the key areas of need, we can offer practical solutions the nonprofit can use to feed
Simply stated we must believe in Jesus as our Messiah. He came into the world not to condemn the world, but to save the world, those who believe on Him are not condemned (John 3:17-18). Believing in Him is simply stated, but not easily done. In fact, I would say we cannot do this without the help of God Himself. Paul states “…God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith” (Romans 12:3 KJV). Having this faith on our own might as well be considered a “work.” What God has done is on account of the work of Christ is the basis for that measure of faith. Taking from Charles Spurgeon’s sermon “Justification by Grace” we find a candid answer to the question, how does one obtain justification? Spurgeon poses the question, “Can I be justified?” running through a general list of reasons and requirements often cited, even today, as to why this may not be possible for some individual he answers yes, if God has given you the desire and you “confess thy sins” Jesus will take your “rags” and give you His “righteousness” forever. If asked how is this obtained? “Must I be a holy man for many years, and then get it?” Spurgeon expounds, “Listen! ‘freely by His grace;’ ‘freely’ because there is no price to be paid for it, ‘by His grace,’ because it is not of our deservings.” In answer to the question, “I have been praying, and I do not think God will forgive me, unless I do something to deserve it.” Spurgeon clearly answers, “God gives away His justification freely; and if you bring anything

City of God is a depicts the reality of the narrator’s life growing up in the slums on the outskirts of Rio. What was meant to be a small film project became a success in many ways. Although it quickly became an international sensation winning numerous awards the filmmakers were also successful with their use of various components of cinematography. One critic said that “City of God is a wildly entertaining film. The sheer energy of the movie is never less than compelling. Meirelles pulls out every filmmaking trick in the book, utilizing freeze-frames, montage, flashback, quick-cutting, and even strobe lights” (Millikan 1). I will analyze various scenes from the film and explain how each successfully applied film techniques. “The
Now imagine a hunger-free community where families have the access to nutritious food to thrive. During weeknights they serve from 4 to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. The guests coming in are a mixed group with people who are homeless and on food stamps which itself is not enough to feed a full family. The nutritious meals they serve each night include homemade main entrees with drinks and desserts.
What makes a life worth less than another’s? Is it somebody's actions? Is it the way they dress or speak? Or maybe, as some people think, it’s a fact about a person that is unchangeable that they see as negative. This essay will talk about the LGBT+ community, how it’s being treated in today’s society, and what steps can be taken to ensure the safety of the community. First of all, simply by existing, members of the LGBT+ community are not inherently wrong. Also, having LGBT+ people around children or youths will not sway them towards being one themselves. Religion is no reason to discriminate against the LGBT+ community. And being apart of the community is natural. In addition, ways to ensure a more safe environment for the community will be given.
