How would the population react if the schedule that structures many peoples’ entire year were to change? This change is a reality for a growing number of families across the country as a method of improving primary and secondary education through year-round school. Although many have come to accept or even embrace year-round school in an effort to help students retain more material, year-round school would actually disrupt the learning environment, be potentially detrimental for students and their family’s financial health, as well as that of the schools, and could take away from family and personal time.

For most people they don't like school. People look towards those nice long summer breaks. however a lot of things happen over the summer, the main thing that happens is that students tend to forget everything they learned during the previous school year. By the end of the the first month of summer, all that knowledge has leaked out of the brain. Then when the students return in the fall, the first month of school is wasted by re-teaching students what they should have already learned last year. It would be beneficial for students if every school went to year round school

Imagine a school year that gave the students one week off after every quarter and every Friday off. Does this sound exciting and rich with possibilities? Then ask the superintendent of the school district to consider year round school with only four days per week.First, students would not forget what they learned over the long summer. Next, parents would not have to get day care except on Fridays instead of the whole summer. Finally, teachers and students would have better relationships as they spend more time together instead of being rushed. Let’s take a look at some proof.

How would you feel if you were in school on The Fourth of July when it was sunny and 100° outside? Since the early 1900’s schools have been changing over to year round education. The original school calendar was based around the harvest schedule, so that the children were home to help their parents in the field. This is why year round schooling started in the urban areas because there were no fields to be harvested. Even though some people may say that year round school helps with overcrowding of students in classes, we should not have year round school because It leads to more high school drop outs due to the fact that the students become unmotivated and do not learn more over a longer period of time.

Having common core, and standardized testing will not be around. We could not administer the same test for the kids who go to school the entire year, to those who go for ten months. I have many reasons to return to school for bachelors’ program. One of the reasons I returned to school is to advance my career beyond being staff nurse. After I graduated from a two-year community college as an RN, I realized that I have a potential to advance my career from staff nurse to nurse practitioner. When I was in nursing school, I thought I never back to school because nurse school was so stressful. Nursery school was the hardest thing I ever did, I remembered those days.

Some experts say that a all year round schooling calendar would be more beneficial to students. Paul Von Hippel, a researcher and sociologist of ohio state University, says “Students have a better tendency to remember material because of short breaks.” While other people believe that summer vacation is an american tradition and shouldn’t be changed. If I could plan my ideal school, I would create an all year round calendar, teach specified subjects, and begin the school day later. Summer break dates back to the 1800s(Pearson, 2010). Now is the time for a change, or is it?

Year round school has proven to not significantly increase student growth. Studies have shown that test scores of students attending year round school are the same as students attending a traditional scheduled school. Schools are transitioning to a year round schedule to improve the learning environment, although it’s proven to not improve anything. I do not think that schools should be year round. Year round school disrupts summer plans, costs too much on administration with minimal outcome, and increases student burnout.

Many schools are considering switching to year around school schedules. Some people might not understand what this means. ”Students in most American year-round school districts spend the same amount of days in class as students in traditional calendar schools- the days are just arranged differently, with smaller more frequent breaks throughout the year” (McMullen, 2001). Holton should not consider this schedule because it does not improve students learning, year round school would interfere with family vacations, and it makes trying to get a summer job for teens difficult.

The three-month summer vacation block may sound great for planning vacations, but in reality, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. By having one large vacation block, parents have to compete in the workplace to get the appropriate time off and travel is more expensive because everyone else is traveling. Year round schooling offers more breaks and more opportunities for everyone to take a well-deserved vacation

Every day, teachers inform their students of colleges, college programs and degree options, but they never talk about trade schools or military. Trade schools have many different programs to offer including dental hygienist, law enforcement, electrician, a paralegal and more. Trade schools typically offer 2-year or 4-year programs that, upon completion, reward you with an associate’s degree and certification for certain trades. When attending trade school more than half of the education is hands on or can be considered internships. Trade schools offer so much more than educators or individuals with college degrees give credit, the schooling costs less, the timeline is shorter, and the outcome can be potentially financially greater than a college

Can you imagine a world in which parents were free to send their children to only the best schools, no matter which neighborhood they lived in? What if cost wasn’t a factor? Imagine if even a student in the poorest section of town had access to the best education. What could that child achieve? What would they become? How would their life change? Those questions that I asked lead now to the focus of the essay. The world we live in is ever so changing, with that the need for education also needs to be changing. No longer do classic public schools fit the job in all certain situations. That is why with school choice being a controversial issue in education reform, school choice public funds should be used to support school choice programs that offer parents alternatives to traditional public schools.

By the time Friday rolls around, I’m sitting in the majority of my classes focusing my half open eyes on the clock, just counting down the seconds until I can leave school and catch up on my rest. Even in first period, my focus is most definitely not on what equation Mr. Humbert is writing on the board, but rather on what I could be doing instead of sitting in math class. Sleeping. Don’t get me wrong, I am very grateful every day that I have the privilege of having an education. But, what is the point of me, along with many other half asleep teenagers, going to school and sitting there for eight hours a day, trying to retain information when I can barely remember if I brushed my teeth that morning?

There are several reasons why kids need to go to school but to me, the top three reasons are getting an education helps you go farther in life, it’s required by the state that you go till you reach a certain age, and it will help you learn social skills and help you be comfortable to talking to people. Although students may not like going to school, it benefits them in the long run. It is important for students to go to school to get an education. Even though some students may not like to go to school it is required that they go. Even though students may not realize it but they also learn social skills by making friends and talking in front of people.
