Final Paper: Argument Against Gun Control
The argument on firearm regulation has been a heated discussion for many years. On one side of the debate, we have people in favor placing restrictions on guns, while, on the opposite end of the spectrum, we have people fighting the regulation of guns. People in favor gun restrictions believe gun control can reduce crime ,while, the people against gun control believe having the right to bear arms is an effective crime deterrent. I believe that every law abiding citizen should be able to carry a gun and defend themselves against people who intend to harm them.Gun control laws are simply

England’s gun ban created the unintended consequences of lawlessness in the streets, as well as, it did not stop criminals from possessing guns and committing crimes. (Malcolm)
Even in the United states where states and cities that passed strict gun laws have found them to be ineffective. The places where gun control laws are the most strictest are places that have the most crimes are committed with firearms.(Piquero). Of the 15 states that have the highest homicide rates, 10 have
Over two hundred years have passed since the founding fathers of the United States of America, had created the constitution, the very document that is viewed, by many, as the milestone for what has later become the most powerful country in the world, as well as, the beacon for democracy. Having derived its values from the simple, yet intrinsic principles of liberty, the constitution has played the role of a safeguard to always ensure the freedoms of the people of America will remain intact.
While in the United States there is less than a 1/250 chance of being the victim of a violent crime, including one where a firearm is used. This means that even though a civilian is more likely to be harmed by a gun in the United States, he is still less likely to be a victim of a violent crime, including murder, than a civilian in Britain or Wales. However, most of those who support an increase in gun control choose to focus on the fact that there is a 1/10,000 chance of being part of a violent crime involving a gun in the UK(Violent Crime 2). In addition to that, if one were to remove the top five cities with the highest crime rate in the United States such as Detroit, New York City, and New Orleans, coincidentally the cities with the strictest gun control, the United States’ crime rates, and gun-related murders drop, dramatically(Doeden 31). Although Australia is often referred to as an example of a country that banned guns, statistics show that violent crimes were already declining in Australia when the mandatory gun buyback was enforced from 1996 to 2003, and there is no way to prove that Australia’s decrease in crime had anything to with the mandatory gun
Gun control laws should regulate production, distribution, ownership and use of firearms by civilians. Gun control laws are not intended to dispossess law abiding citizens of licensed firearms but to intervene on reckless use of firearms that cause harm to the public. Gun control should also make it difficult for criminals to access firearms. Armed civilians have in many instances deterred acts of crime from being instigated by scaring away criminals. Nonetheless, gun laws can only be described as immensely lax. This essay seeks to argue for the enactment of strict gun control laws by highlighting the dangers posed by guns in the hands of members of the public.
In the year 2016 alone, there have been 145 mass shootings around the United States, while there have been only 173 days in the years so far. In order to prevent these atrocities from occurring so frequently gun ownership should be regulated by both the federal and state governments through a background check for all sales of firearms. The National Instant Criminal Background Check System has prevented more than two million convicted felons and other prohibited purchasers from buying guns. The law also has a deterrent effect since the prohibited purchasers are less likely to try to buy guns when they know comprehensive background check requirements are in place. However, currently the federal law requires criminal background checks only for guns sold through licensed firearm dealers, which counts for only sixty percent of the total gun sales. The U.S. Congress needs to regulate the obtainment of guns with a background check for all sales of firearms in order to protect the lives of citizens in this country while not violating the Second Amendment and the rights of the state.
For many years there have been arguments over gun control, and if there needs to be more regulations or even ban them. I do not think that banning firearms or adding more regulations would help; if anything it would make things worse.
“Any society that will give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both ”. This Benjamin Franklin quote is saying that we should not give up a constitutional right for security that won’t even come, and could be directed towards gun control. The circumstances and end results of the demonstration are the subject in this paper.
The issue over the interpretation of the Second Amendment still prevails as one of the most controversial issues in the United States. The Constitution states, “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” The question at hand is the proper definition of a “well-regulated militia” and should there be restrictions on the obtainment of lethal weapons. Ever since the year of 1960, gun violence has increased, costing an average of 30,000 deaths in the United States (Gun Violence is a Serious Problem). This astronomical amount of unnecessary deaths will continue to rise if nothing is done to stop the serious epidemic that continues to plague our
Gun Control is a very controversial topic of today, many people believe that you stricter laws should be put in place to completely abolish the second amendment. Whereas the other side of the table thinks that if you want to exercise your rights you should be completely free to do so. I fall in towards the middle more towards the anti gun control. Guns should be able to be freely obtained within reason, convicted felons should have no right to own weapon. Though today there are loopholes helping criminals have the ability to get them. The “gun show loophole” is the first, it is a theory that is controversial because of its thought that it affects crime rates, usually this notion is brought up by gun control advocates. Gun shows are thought to be the reason that criminals can purchase a weapon without having to have a background check. Another loophole is called the “straw purchaser” this is also a thought that helps criminals or people who should not own a weapon purchase a weapon. This paper will help to determine what these loopholes are and how it could be
The topic of gun control in the United States is not debated enough. Every time a headline reads about an incident that happened where guns were involved, powerful politicians and everyday citizens alike turn the other way and choose to be ignorant instead of being upset about these awful current events. Clearly, with so many occurrences and deaths that are caused by gunfire, the United States needs reformation about its current gun control policies, essentially, the United States needs more gun control. It need gun control because several United States citizens take the Second Amendment too literally, and the amount of gun-related crimes, such as mass shootings, suicides, and homicides is too high.
Original: A study shows that “46% of gun owners report that their primary reason for owning a firearm is for protection against criminal victimization” (Wallace 158). This statistic is one main reason why gun control should be limited. If America were to take away the right to bear arms, nearly half of all people who own guns would lose their sense of security in their own home, town, and country. Esposito and Finley quote a policer office from 2013 saying “simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option” (86). This isn’t because the police force doesn’t do their job well, but because criminals in the twenty first century are merciless and don’t allow time for cops to come save the day.
Some people are petrified of guns because they’ve been habituated to believe they are possessed of evil, and can only do evil. Choosing life by taking another’s may seem like a conflict or insincerity to the morally confused, but that is frequently the choice we are given in the endless crash of good and evil. We must meet evil with an overwhelming show of righteous force. The sociopathic actions are accomplish by people who reproduce the culture of devaluation which tolerance has brought us. The very first step is acknowledging that the root cause of all this killing is Terrorism, not easy access to guns, but the racist, powerful, supremacist ideology of Islam. The number of shooting death has risen proportionately in the past years. It is not a proper standard to
One side feel it is treacherous to take away a man's entitlement to have guns while others are of the view that gun control is an important thing for security. Some individuals feels that gun control won't help stop wrongdoing either. At any rate you take a gander at it, guns have turn into one of the primary driver of death in the United States. Gun control won't help, for it is the individuals that ought to be rebuffed not
Recent incidents of gun violence have brought a new group of supporters against gun violence. Increasing support from the young people has significantly strengthened the gun control movement. For instance, thousands of students participated in a demonstration after the Parkland shooting, and this was one of the largest demonstrations by students in the US history (Holpuch, 2018). The students’ demonstration included a memorial for the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school shooting. The youth-led campaign has been creating pressure for the government to act. According to Szekely (2018), the students’ participation in the demonstration against the killing of their fellows “has chipped away at legislative gridlock on the issue.”
One early morning, April 16, 2007, on the Virginia Polytechnic Institute campus, thirty-two teachers and students were slaughtered by a student named Seung Hui Cho. This was only the beginning of many more of tragic shootings caused by the possession of firearms. On the twenty-sixth of February 2012, a 17 year old boy, by the name of Treyvon Benjamin Martin, was murdered by the hands of George Zimmerman. More recently a 21 year old male, Dylann Roof, opened fire on a church in Charleston, South Carolina. Nine catastrophic deaths occurred on the account of Roof. In recent discussions of gun control, a controversial issue has been whether to increase the availability of guns so that people can protect themselves, or to make them extremely hard to obtain. On the one hand, some argue that the control of guns is considered to be the infringing on
Imagine a world where the government had complete control over every word a person says, and every move they make. If someone speaks out in anyway, they are imprisioned or executed. This isn’t that hard to imagine, as it has has happened over and over in history, and today in many countries. The problem is that the countries that this happens to, are countries that don’t have a guaranteed right for the people to protect themselves from the government. America wanted to set themselves apart. When the US officially pardoned from England, we drafted a bill of rights. The rights on there were rights that were not previously allowed to them by the oppressive country they escaped from. The only right that people seem to fight is the second amendment.
