Fit Kids Healthy Kids, teaches kids about physical literacy and the fundamental skills that will allow a kid to thrive on sports. It seeks to inform children and adult about the basic movements in sports. This will allow them be confident when participating in physical activity. Fit Kids Healthy Kids (FKHK) uses a holistic approach to teach kids about the various skills and have programs that can help to implement the program. Although FKHK can teach the leaders on how to run their programs, they also offer some sections where FKHK can come to your place and run their program. They have four different programs that they offer for kids and soon top of that, they also provide training for leaders and people who want to run a similar program. With the variety of different programs they offer, there is always a variety of options to choose from. People can first attend a free play for kids, in which FKHK will run and supervise the entire process. If people are satisfied with their services, they can work with different organizations and do a drop in program, ranging from 45 minutes to 90 minutes. If the drop in sections is a success, they can work with the organizations and start working on long term goals of 8-12 weeks. Fit Kids Healthy Kids will work with the organizations staff members to ensure that in the future they can lead these programs and not have to rely entirely on FKHK staff to run these programs. First of all, students do not have much knowledge about the different fitness components; they do not understand the relation between the fitness components and health. If students acquire the background knowledge about fitness, it could improve the class engagement and motivation, and increase the independent drive to exercise. Second barrier to students’ achievement is the lack of motivation to be active, and even more difficult, to specific fitness activities, such as sit-ups and push-ups. In today’s society, students spend more time sitting in front a screen and less time moving. Parent and school today have more responsibility making sure the children get enough physical activity. According to the New York Times (2016), “early school physical education (PE) programs can make a significant difference, and the earlier these routines are learned the more likely they will be carried forth into a healthy adulthood”. Another barrier that prevents students’ success is the loss of instructional time due to discipline problems. The classes are too big, with many diverse students with individual problems, which are difficult to address when these issues are from very different backgrounds. KIDFIT is a pilot program aimed at increasing physical activity among the children of the WeViva participants. KIDFIT will take place twice a week at the Trails at The Park location. I will be responsible for researching different physical activity methods and strategies to implement during KIDFIT, creating fun, diverse, and engaging activity plans, determining the equipment and material needed, and leading the 30-minute physical activity sessions.
In Alaska, there are villages that do not have gyms that are in good condition and sometimes, it is hard to access. According to Alaska Department of Health & Social Services, 20.9% for all Alaska adolescents and 21.1% for Alaska Native adolescents were engaging in sixty minutes of physical activity every day of the week. The state target is 23.0% and the male adolescents have already exceeded that goal, but beginning in 2011 where the percentage was 28.0%, there seems to be a downward trend because in 2015, there were only 24.7%. Our advisory was invited again to volunteer at YMCA since we did such a successful and fun job last time for the Healthy Kids Day event in April. For this community service, we helped set up a talent show they were hosting. This show was where kids had been preparing for weeks to this day. The kids got to sing, dance, and just mess around. While the kids were partying, the volunteers were at stations where the kids could create things. One station was for crafting with pencils, one was for creating grape caterpillars, and the last one was for serving people popcorn and drinks which was the one I worked at. The kids were very hungry because four pounds of popcorn was all gone before the show started. Four pounds is a lot especially since popcorn
Participation in youth sports in the United States is on the rise. “Organized youth sports are highly popular for youth and their families, with approximately 45 million children and adolescent participants in the US” (Merkel, 2013). There are many benefits for children that can be attributed to sports such as: physical activity, learning motor skills, sense of belonging, stress relief, and many more. With childhood obesity on the rise recreational sports has never been needed more than it is today. “Over the past three decades, the incidence of obesity in children has tripled, with one of every three children being affected” (Merkel, 2013). Obesity has many long-term health problems related to it such as: diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure cancer, asthma. We can attribute this health problem to changes in our society over like increased technology, increased crime rates, fast food and isolated suburban neighborhoods. Sports and other physical activities are needed to keep children from causing further damaged to their future.
Healthy People implemented an extensive list of physical activity objectives targeting youth of all ages. The objectives are all aimed at promoting the health benefits of maintaining a physically active life-style. Physical activity is essential for children; therefore sport participation has many physical benefits for youths (Willox, 1994). In the United States there is a very unhealthy trend of physically unfit children going on. According to a recent study by the Harvard School of Public Health seven out of ten kids in our nation are out of shape and the incidence of obesity has increased by more than 50 percent among America's children and teen since 1976 and continues to grow at a staggering rate (Metzel & Shookhoff, 2006). When children participate in sports activities they get some of the exercise they need to improve their quality of life and can help prevent children from becoming obese. Physical activity regulates obesity because it increases energy expenditure, suppresses appetite, increases metabolic rate, and increases lean body mass (Willox, 1994). Even though regular physical sport activity has been shown to improve physical fitness, it can also help in preventing many different health problems down the line that youths who participate in sports are more likely not to develop than youths who do not participate in sports. The funding of the program will be through donations from local hospitals, clinics, schools and parents. The program is schedule for the summer for the duration of two months. We will start on June 21st through August 24th of 2015. The community would get together twice a week at a local park to share ideas and participate in activities such as sports and walkathons. We would also educate kids on how important it is to drop the video game controls and go outside breathe fresh air, get some sunlight and get more involved in physical activities. Our weekly schedule consists of meeting up every Mondays and Tuesdays for an educational session about the food pyramid and vitamins. On Fridays we will have activities, such as sports and games. Saturdays will be reserved for walkathons and getting the word out.

While there are so many more things that could be listed, these events have become a conversation in the U.S. When it comes to slavery, however, many choose to turn away. When it comes to the disenfranchisement of Blacks, many dismiss that companies were built by slaves. Any attempt to introduce disturbing revelations is disparaged...thus, the truth of our country is censured. If the past we study is insufficient, what does it say about what we perceive to be our present? Through Morrison’s Beloved, Melville’s “Benito Cereno”, Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, Achebe’s essay, and Miller’s response, we are finally able to discuss the truth about slavery.

Nowadays, more and more children have obesity compare to the children in thirty years ago. The research showed that children who have obesity in their early age may cause either short-term or long-term consequence. The short-term consequence for the obesity children include low self-esteem and the long-term consequence includes asthma and heart disease. (CDC) The best way to prevent these is to encourage children do at least one hour physical exercise a day within the trained instructor guided. In today’s society children are increasingly becoming less active. Lack of physical activity in childhood leads to obesity, can increase one’s risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma, arthritis, and poor health status. Physical inactivity also increases one’s risk for dying prematurely, dying of heart disease, and colon cancer. Technology and video games have become a major factor in this and have seemed to take over and control lives of many children. Less children are involved with sports and few play outside. The lack of physical activity as a child, can pay huge dividends in the child’s health, into his/her adulthood.
