Greek mathematician-Apollonius of Perga Apollonius of perga was known as a greek gometer and an astronomer who was born in Perga in 262B.C.-190B.C. Apollonius was noted for his writings on the conic section (the parabolas, circles and ellipse, and the hyperbola). He was the person who gave the parabola, ellipse, and the hyperbola their modern names know today. He also attributed with the hypothesis of the eccentric orbits, also known as equivalently which meant the explaining of the apparent motion or cycle of the planets and the variety of speed of the moon. The apollonius crater was named in his honor for his contribution in the founding of the history of the moon and why the eclipses happened.
