I’ve always been intrigued by space exploration, so I decided to do my research on the Apollo missions. I think most people have heard about the Apollo missions because out of these missions is when Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin became the first humans to land on the moon, and then shortly after is when Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon.
The goal of the Apollo missions was to safely land humans on the moon and then to get them back home. This was at a time when the United States and the Soviet Union were in the midst of the Cold War. The Soviet Union was leading the way in space developments, so emphasis was put on the program. They also wanted to take samples from the moon for further testing. Even though
In doing research on space exploration and specifically the Apollo Missions, I have learned a lot about the purpose and significance behind this exploration. The goals set by NASA for these missions was to “establish technology to meet other national interests in space, achieve preeminence in space for the United States and develop man's capability to work in the lunar environment”. The motivation to get a man to the moon (Apollo 11) had a lot to do with the Cold War with the Soviet Union. President John F. Kennedy gave a speech that was aimed to convince the people that it was time to advance and play our part in the world. Thousands of people worked on this project, but it was really a national effort. Several questions arose as each of the
The mission Apollo 11 was the first spaceflight that landed humans on the Moon. The crew members were Neil A. Armstrong, Michael Collins, Edwin Aldrin. Apollo 11 was launched to the Moon on July 16, 1969 and returned to Earth on July 24, 1969 in the Pacific Ocean. They landed on the Moon on July 20, 1969. They collected soil and rock samples, and set up scientific experiments. This mission was one of the most significant events in the Space Race between United States and the Soviet Union. The success of the mission stand for the win for the United States in the Space Race. When the crew arrived home, their nation was waiting proud for them. They had won a “battle” in the Cold War. People all over the world still remember the 20th July as the
For this assignment, I chose to write about the Apollo missions that took place in the late 1960s. My father was in the United States Air Force and, for years, he was stationed at Patrick Air Force Base. PAFB is less than 25 miles south of Cape Canaveral, also known as Cape Kennedy. We lived in a one-story duplex in military housing for enlisted personnel. With my siblings and other kids in the neighborhood, we climbed on top of our home and watched the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo manned missions as they climbed high into the Florida sky. As I write this, my arms are covered with goose bumps as I realize that I was witnessing history. It was not until years after watching these launches that I came to appreciate that my father was a part
Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. The first steps by humans on another planetary body were taken by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on July 20, 1969. " The Apollo 11 was to beat the Soviet Union in Space. Another technology was the V-2 rocket from Germany they got. The V-2 rocket was the world's first long-range guided ballistic missile.
The Apollo 11 was the first mission to send men to the moon and have them take a step on another planetary body. The objective of this mission was to complete a national goal of a lunar landing set by President John F. Kennedy. People all around the world were anxiously waiting to see the mission fail or succeed; everyone had heard about it from newspapers to the television, and even going to see Apollo 11 launch in person. Two articles had been made to show the dangerous circumstances Armstrong and Aldrin would have faced outside of Earth in the unknown outer space. Another article shows the success of the two men sacrificing their lives to achieve something no man has ever done. “In Event of Moon Disaster” and “The July 16, 1969, Launch: A Symbol of Man’s Greatness” are two articles that have different purposes and how effective they have been, are affected by speaker, audience, and subject, and each article appeals to its own senses of logos, ethos, and pathos. The biggest benefit of Apollo was the inspiration it gave to a growing generation to get into science and aerospace-Buzz Aldrin.
The apollo missions were like steps for the next mission. The goal at the end was to get the first man on the moon. It took in total 6 apollo missions to be able to get a man on the moon and back. The apollo missions where a great achievement for mankind and the united states. Getting a man on the moon meant that we could go to so many other planets and not just the moon.
On July 20, 1969, humanity did itself proud in spite of all its wars, sadism, hatred, and insanity. We set foot on another planet. Men walked on the moon. This changed our belief in what we could accomplish.
Apollo 11 affected relations with other countries bringing an end to the space race to the moon and united the space programs
The American dream is an amazing opportunity for people. It was in the past and it is now. It gives immigrants the chance to make a life for themselves and their families. It allows them to escape poverty and the hardships that they face in their country. Coming to America gives people a chance to get a job, own their own business, or get their own home. Past generations have thrived greatly from this opportunity. Current and future generations are struggling.
Ever since humanity has been able to look up and view the stars, forever gaining a better view, mankind has desired to go to space. Slowly gaining the ability of mobility, mankind has invented the wheel, then the automobile, and then aircraft. However, what lies in our recent past is the greatest achievement in reaching new frontiers so far - that is, reaching the moon. The Apollo 11 is responsible for accomplishing the basic mission of the Apollo Program; that is, to land two men on the lunar surface and return them safely to earth.
The moon landing was highly motivated by the space race between the United States, and the Soviet Union. The space race caused a very tense tone in each country, as they both were trying to be the first to make it into space. The Soviet Union made the first milestone by launching Sputnik into the earth’s orbit on October 4, 1957. Sputnik was the world 's first manmade satellite to make it into outer space. This was such a frightening time for the United States. The United States did not know if it was sent to space for a nuclear launch or
In the 1960s the U.S. raced the Soviet Union to the moon determining which is the dominant nation. Apollo 11 was the first successful manned mission to the moon. Our first astronauts, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, played an important role in this mission. Having to be in space for about a week and pilot the spacecraft safely to the moon and back to Earth was a dangerous mission. With little time to pass Armstrong and Aldrin had to record their first steps on the moon, take close and far away pictures of the moon, and collect large samples of lunar material. Apollo 11’s success expressed the U.S.’s superiority over the Soviet Union.
The Apollo program conducted by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) from 1969 to 1972. Led by Dwight D. Eisenhower administration, the goal was to put mankind into space. Later turned over to John F. Kennedy, who stretched for a greater goal of putting the first American on the moon moreover bringing him back safely to Earth. This amalgamation, caused from the tension between the Soviet Union and the United States after World War II. Apollo 1 planned to be the first manned mission for NASA. The goal was to go into low Earth orbit to sufficiently test the Apollo Command Module. However, on January 27, 1967 a fire erupted during a launch test within the capsule resulting in the death of Virgil Grissom, Edward White, and Roger
NASA soon responded with the Mercury Missions. These Missions put Americans in orbit and many believe was the real start of the America’s space program. This brought one of the biggest changes to the Nation’s space program. Every tool had to either be built or adapted from another tool to fit the requirement needed. The procedures and systems all had to be redesigned. After the 10 missions, NASA moved on to project Gemini, which concentrated on learning the skills to be able to descend onto the lunar surface. This included docking in space and performing EVAs, or extra vehicular activities, more commonly known as a space walks.
Through human history, mankind have been facing unanswered questions about the moon. It started out with the caveman looking up at the stars and especially the brightest object in the night sky, the moon. Then, when civilizations started to form, they tracked the movement of the moon to try to find its meaning or purpose. Earlier on the telescope was invented and some of the questions about the moon were answered. But it was not until the moon mission, that we fully understood the moon's purpose. The moon mission is one of America’s greatest accomplishments.
