The famous photo of the earth rising was taken by by one of the astronauts on board Apollo 8 mission, William Anders. He wasn’t a photographer but an American Astronaut and was the superior member of the mission. He was born October 17th, 1933 and although he was American he was in fact born in Hong kong. He studied and achieved a Bachelor of Science degree from the United Sates Naval academy. He also accomplished a Master of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering in 1962 from the Air Force and also served as a pilot in the American air force.
This very significant photograph was taken on Christmas Eve, 1968. The astronauts Williams Anders, Frank Borman and Jim Lovell became the first people to leave Earth and circle the moon. The trip was a significant mark in history due to this being the first time that people had travelled to the moon. Jim Lovell was the navigator, technology in the spacecraft and was used to measure their location to the moon by using the position of the stars. When the spacecraft entered lunar orbit, it circled ten times, approximately 70 miles from the moon for twenty hours. As they circled the moon the famous Earthrise photo was captured. In 1969, to commemorate the Apollo 8 flight the American. Postal Service issued a stamp, It showed the most famous colour image of the earth rising. A film was also made, which portrayed the Apollo 8 mission..
