In current society there is a desire for improving standards of individuals' lives, but how to achieve such a progression comes into question. Some people believe that this stability comes through repetitive practice in one particular area; meanwhile, others, such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, think that improvement is found in trying new experiences. Although continually taking part in mastered experiences further builds previous skills in medical procedures, taking part in new experiences can insight self-improvement in physical activities and creative knowledge. In medical operations, mastered areas provide an increase in known skills. For surgeons, they can grow in their field by conducting repetitive surgeries. It is expected that these …show more content…
Although the continuation of mastering subjects can provide a building of previous skills, experiences outside of comfortable environments in creative learning catalyze self-improvement. In the art world, Michelangelo was an artist who became famous for his prolific sculpting, such as his depiction of the religious figure, David. Despite public fame in the art society for his sculptured renderings, Michelangelo continued to challenge himself and pursued other artistic forms such as painting. And his creative experimenting paid off not only in accomplishing a self-improvement, but also growing his artistic recognition. Similarly taking on challenges in the art world, this school year, I choose to take AP Art History. I began the class with limited knowledge consisting of only basic facts. However, as the semester progressed, I began to become familiar with the subject and started to notice that i could interpret pieces of art beyond a basic analysis. By making the personal choice to experiment in a subject I knew little about, I was exposed to an entirely different view of humanity; and therefore, improved my individual growth. Additionally, exploration separate from comfortable settings in physical activities creates …show more content…
This team went on to be the American representatives at the 1936 Olympics in Germany. But, their prior experience with rowing was truly unique: a large portion of the men had no rowing experience prior to their tryouts. The initiative these men took when trying to go into this situation demonstrates how individuals can be successful in growing their interests and personal improvements without having previously mastered an activity. In my own life, I have experienced similar growth in a sport I had no prior skills in: archery. When I first attempted archery, the results were not hopeful for an aspiring archer; however, I was eventually able to improve my attempts. As a result of taking on something beyond my ordinary talents, I was able to grow my spectrum of interests in sports and add diversity to my life. In certain instances, there is a purpose for remaining in comfortable circumstances; however, these settings can also hinder individuals' potential for growth. Instead, experimenting in unknown areas can further a growth in self-improvement. By utilizing the process of experimenting, as suggested by famed Emerson, society will be able to gain a unified
A primary objective in measuring productivity is to improve operations either by using fewer inputs to produce the same output, or to produce:
It is believable that John Vanderlyn, in his painting Landing of Columbus, was trying to portray the success of Columbus and his crew. Columbus heroic stance and elegant expression are made all the more impressive in comparison to the native people who witness the event. The Native Americans are naked, fearful or subservient, bowing down before the explorer in awe and reverence. The symbols of empire are shown in the heroic explorer with his Christian crosses and steel swords symbolizing the significance in the power of civilization. In 1836 of June, Congress had commissioned John Vanderlyn to paint the Landing of Columbus. About eleven years later the painting was

This paper is a formal analysis of the Marble grave stele with a family group relief sculpture. It is a pentelic marble style relief standing at 171.1cm tall carved by a master. It is from the Late Classical period of Greek, Attic which was completed around ca.360 B.C. . I chose to analyze this piece as apposed to the others because I’m mainly attracted to art and sculptures from the Greek era. The overall color used in this relief is ivory with a few cracks and pieces broken off. There is some discoloration which causes the color to come off as slightly light brown for most of the relief. The sculpture appears larger compared to the other sculptures in the art room. It represents a family which includes a man, his wife, and their
However, our trip did not last countless hours as I looked over 30 paintings in about twenty five minutes. This was not due to my lack of interest, but more to my novice mindset towards art. Art is similar to most skill activities in that people that are active in said activity can better understand and articulate the small actions that lead to a great piece of art, a great football play, or a great movie. I am embarrassed to say that I did not pay close enough attention to the intricacies of my dad's art, but I accepted to write these articles in hopes I could learn more about my dad's favorite past time.
Have you ever been to Iowa State University and seen all of the magnificent art that is located on campus? Iowa State is home to one of the largest campus public art collections in the United States. There are over 2,000 works of public art (George Washington Carver). The foundation of the contemporary Art on Campus Collection and Program began during the Depression in the 1930s, when Iowa State's President Hughes envisioned that, "The arts would
I was surprised when I saw your PowerPoint because all the pictures were from the actual Denver Museum Art. All these pieces of art you took were catching my attention and help me learned more about the Pre-Columbian Art. Therefore, your PowerPoint just made me realized that most of males and females arts are mostly nude, which I still don't understand why. In my opinion, some of the Pre-Columbian art is very interesting because is give me a hard time to figure what it was and every of their arts important to the Spanish history.
Man Ray like many other artists did not care to have his personal life shown in his art. He wanted to be viewed and recognized for his work which included sculptures, paintings, and photography. Man Ray was mostly influenced by Stieglitz's photographs. Man Ray used a similar style to Stieglitz. He captured images that created an unvarnished look at the photos' subject. Man Ray discovered a new way to create his photos; by accident in his work room he discovered how to manipulate objects in his photos on pieces of photosensitive paper.
The idea of this piece is to show the connection between mother and daughter being painted. It shows the time and the classic style of the
The Resurrection of Christ is from the Baroque period. This work of art portrays the sense of dramatic antagonism that Caravaggio achieved by manipulating light across full range of tones, changing the intensity and transforming its radiance this was done so that every beam and shadow expressed a dissimilar emotional content. (Sayre, 2010) In Rembrandt painting he focused on using emotional contrast between light and dark tones to emphasize the emotional difference. Here you can see pure light radiating out of the tomb of darkness. Christ himself begins to rise from the tomb in the light of true symbolic
“Painting today is pure intuition and luck and taking advantage of what happens when you splash the stuff down. “- Francis Bacon. However when I learnt more about history of art and the way each movement and happenings in the world inspired artist to make new works, I was able to see much more than just a canvas with random paints and sketches. The interesting part about this concept is that each piece of art could be interpreted in many different ways. In contemporary art there isn’t right and wrong, each of us view and find different meanings and connections with artworks.
I enjoyed reading your excellent post, and I am absolutely agree with you. Art historian’s goal is to study and save an artwork for us and the future through documentation, interpretation, and analysis. I agree that “Objects take on a vitality in museums through their discursive deployment in relation to each other and their environment”, and there is no any theoretic or virtual substitution for a real painting, sculpture, etc. Although curator’s goal is to make the artwork interesting for a visitor, visitor’s interest might be an enigmatic thing. Very often, we walk through museum and look without seeing since we are not ready to see. Our preparedness might be based on multiple factors: on our special education and reading of the historic
Through this course, I have discovered that when an art piece is complete, it’s style, form and content while expressed by the artist, is interpreted by the viewer. The meaning of art to me has changed as I have come to realize that while there are a variety of styles and forms of art that each artist uses, each individual viewer is free to have one’s own opinion and thought about the piece. Not only have I come to learn to appreciate art from a variety of time periods, the meaning of art for me has changed how I view the art I enjoy, as well as how I view the art that I do not adore, but can now appreciate it for it’s cultural or religious significance, for it’s value through the ages, as well as through its use of elements and design. Through this course pieces of work have become more meaningful to me, the concept of art has become more relevant, and my ability to evaluate art has become more
As a student of Art History Survey I, I need to complete a museum paper. I wondered if this paper is really a necessary assignment. I did not think of this paper as an assignment, but it as an opportunity to discover and experience great works of art which are certainly more dynamic and realistic than what I learned in the textbook. For my trip, I decided to visit the Dallas Museum of Art, one of the largest art museums in Texas. This museum is a valuable place where I can be immersed in the vast world of art. For the first time I came here, I was really surprised by its enormous space as well as how it organized the different works of art from different cultures. Therefore, it was not hard to find four different works of art which I was definitely impressed, and I picked four works of arts from four cultures: Chinese, Greek, Indian, and Egyptian. When walking through these fascinating exhibits, I truly enjoyed my time with them, and this trip will surely be one of the most memorable trip I have ever done.
Self-initiated learning is a key aspect of Rogers’ beliefs for a lasting education. He notes that when a student is fully engaged with the subject matter, they are more likely to retain the significant information they have been taught. When developing a curricular activity to represent Rogers’ experiential learning theory, we must remember to assemble a curriculum where the student can reflect on their work. As a secondary school art classroom focuses on work developed by the student, the assignments are often structured with a curriculum created by the educator. Assignments and art pieces are put in place to help the student learn the foundations of art and art history. Although students create the art pieces, they are often confined to the outline created by the teacher.
