After listening to the panel of professors speak at the SCAD Keynote Event, "Explaining the Trump Phenomenon: Interdisciplinary Perspectives", I learned a variety of perspectives on Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. These perspectives were on different topics, including how he gained his supporters, his economic policies and other policies, what could happen if he becomes president, and much more. First, Trump’s popularity was definitely a surprise to a lot of people. Many of the panelists believe that he gained his supporters by shining light on some of our nation and government’s hidden problems. So he ultimately used fear to gain voters. One professor showed a poll showing that an overwhelming majority of people voting for Trump
The entire editorial board at the New York times decided to cooperate on an op-ed piece covered on Donald Trump concerning his post election actions and decisions. The Op-Ed was titled “What President Trump Doesn’t Get About America” and was published on the New York Times on January 20, 2017. The rhetorical situation behind the piece is the after-effects of Mr. Trump's official inauguration which took place on the same date the Op-Ed was published. The author's purpose and intended audience is to inform and persuade the American people that America was and will be fine even with some of the so-called harsh executive decisions of Trump.
Imagine that Donald Trump wasn't a businessman? I think he brought up the stocks, they are high. He is a President for the United States. He has or had four different businesses. He was in a Reality TV show. Donald trump has different talents and that he is a Renaissance man.
In the article “The Brutal Economic Truth Behind the Rise of Trump” Anthony Mirhaydari sides with Donald Trump and discusses how he is a good candidate. He argues that although he may be loud, obnoxious, and have very radical foreign policy ideals he still is not an awful choice. He brings up the quotes, “It's the economy stupid” which was coined by James Carville during Bill Clinton's political campaign while he was running for president. He states how people will gravitate and make their main decisions on the economic policies of each candidate. He understands the self interest in human nature and how people want to secure their own personal economic situation before they deal with foreign affairs such as the immigration problem. People will almost always vote for who will help out their economic situation the best and the author feels that Trump has a solid plan and a good grasp of what the problem is.
Lastly, Lindhout uses allusions so that the reader has a reference as to where they are being held and what is going on around them. “His jihad was all about driving the Ethiopian troops out of Somalia” (Lindhout 137). This quote gives a little background information about the tension in Somalia. “From here on out, the man would arrive at least once a week bringing money and supplies for our captors. Once or twice, we saw him carrying a big pot of home-cooked food and leaving it for the boys. We nicknamed him Donald Trump” (Lindhout 168). The last anecdote talks about what one of the leaders did and who Lindhout related to Donald Trump. Both of these anecdotes give information about the area and conflict in which Lindhout is being held and
In response to the widely unexpected and controversial election of Donald Trump the University of Maryland’s Government and Politics department hosted a panel to help staff and students understand how this happened. Additionally the panel hosts each spoke of what will happen to our government in terms of foreign and domestic policy. Each panel host had a different perspective on the matter and it made to be a very interesting discussion filled with a diverse set of opinions on how Donald Trump got elected and what it all means going forward. The speakers for the event were Irwin Morris, David Karol, Antoine Banks, Liliana Mason, Stella Rouse, Vadimir Tismaneanu, and Karol Soltan. Though there were many speakers at the event each person had a brief time to speak on the matter at hand and present their own analysis on the election.
Billionaire New York developer Donald Trump says that legalizing drugs is the only way to win the war against what he considers one of America's most serious problems. Trump blamed the country's drug problems on politicians who "don`t have any guts" and enforcement efforts that are "a joke." "We`re losing badly the war on drugs," Trump told 700 people at a luncheon Friday. "You have to legalize drugs to win that war. You have to take the profit away from these drug czars." Trump said tax revenues from a legalized drug trade could be spent to educate the public on the dangers of drug use. In an interview, Trump said he believed it was an appropriate time to broach his ideas "because South Florida has such a huge problem with
The 45th president of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump, is a political man who has many ideas to improve the U.S. One of the many idea he had included building a wall between the borders of the United States and Mexico for the “purpose of controlling immigration into America”. According to Trump this wall is supposed to help our country with its national security. In reality though, many people believe that the wall is showing Trumps true colors. Many people are contemplating on the fact if Trump is a racist person who is building the wall because it provides a method of targeting and preventing those who are trying to cross the Mexican-American Border. In reality, Trump only cares about trying to make “America Great Again”, and
The famous billionaire and real-estate developer Donald Trump announced his running on the Republican ticket for the 2016 presidential elections on June 16, 2015. Currently in the race, Trump is leading the Republican polls with sixty-seven delegates on board. Ted Cruz is falling in second with only eleven delegates. Seventy-four percent of voters believe that Trump will be nominated as the Republican candidate. About twenty-three percent of voters believe that he will be elected as the next 2016 president. Donald Trump’s success has followed him from the beginning.
Admiration for the office of the American presidency, though perhaps not for the present incumbent, would seem, at face value, to be nearly universal amongst practically all sections of the American populace. In the era of 24 hour news, the press minutely reports the comings and goings, agenda, and even the wardrobe of members of the first family. Broadcasters tirelessly and even unctuously described the dresses and gowns of Melania Trump and her consort at last Friday’s Inauguration Day festivities. President Trump’s children Ivanka, Tiffany, Eric, Donald Jr., and Barron have already become public figures. They became front page news even before President Trump raised his hand to
Donald Trump has started yet another conflict. This time, instead of North Korea or Mexico, his target is the NFL.
This year the presidential elections will take place at the beginning of November, and there are lots of people wondering how this is going to end. Some candidates for these presidential elections may not have been the best choice for their respective parties, but the one that really shouts, “I should not be here” is Mr. Donald Trump. His personality and actions are not the correct ones for a president because of his temper and comments against other cultures. On the other hand, we have Mrs. Clinton who is a more competent candidate; she has more experience on the field of politics than Mr. Trump who has none at all, which are the reasons why she is a better choice as a candidate and as president of the U.S.
Donald Trump was born on June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York. He was an assertive child so his parents sent him to a military academy for high school. They hoped that his education there would also discipline him to make him a better child/person. He furthered his education by studying economics at Wharton College at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1971, after he finished college, he took over his father’s real estate company. He renamed the company the Trump Organization. As he was very involved in economics, he would buy many pieces of land and create buildings, mostly in the Manhattan area. Often times, Trump’s business methods and actions have been called into question. For example, in 1973, he was called into question because some of his tenants complained about discrimination towards them by Donald. Another scandal that he has been brought into are the numerous allegations that women have brought up saying that Donald sexually assaulted them, among other inappropriate actions. He married Melania Knauss, his now third and current wife, in 2005. He currently has 5 kids throughout his three wives On June 16, 2015, Trump announced he was running for president. Some policies that are linked to Trump is creating a wall between the United States and Mexico and he often emphasizes deporting Muslims. His policies are often scrutinized for being overly aggressive and unnecessary, linking back to his bias and character. In May 2016, Trump was called the
Donald’s Trump’s victory in the 2016 election is very complex. The political mishaps that have occurred since JFK’s presidency reshaped the American psyche of who the president should be. This chain of dissatisfaction with the federal government led the American people to hope for a president who is honest, free of corruption, and supportive of the middle class. Trump recognized the American need for a new kind of president and took on a persona that perfectly exemplified this. The Trump Mythology is the belief that Donald Trump is a transparent, honest politician; however, this is only part of the equation. Belief in the Trump Mythology contributed to his victory, but it is also important to acknowledge the respective roles of demographics, voter turnout, and Hillary Clinton’s flaws. An interesting difference between the Kennedy Mythology and the Trump Mythology that is worth noting is the role of the media. Throughout the Kennedy Era, popular media fed the people’s fascination of Kennedy’s Camelot, perpetuating the mythology. Donald Trump, however, was largely hated by popular culture. American media ultimately discounted Donald Trump as a viable contender for the presidency.
Will Donald Trump fulfill America’s request and actually “make America great again”? When friends of mine who are Trump supporters inform me that they support him, I don’t understand the reasons why they picture him as our future president of the united states. Donald Trump has never been an elected official. He has never been elected into an office of any kind. He’s never had to broker political compromise or gave any political speeches prior to him running for president. With no experience in politics at all, why would people think he’d make a good president? Sure, Donald Trump is a barefaced self-promoter and experienced businessman. But people don’t realize all of the mistakes he has made as a businessman. Washington, D.C., is not a type of Wall Street or anything for him to lose money or make some reckless decisions that would put our country into a deeper hole that we are already into, and also getting multiple things done within the nation’s capital takes more than a huge personality and a strong will. If Donald Trump is elected to be our president, he’ll have to quickly learn how to deal with his Democratic associates in the House of Representatives and Senate. He’ll also have to get used to the pace of government because there are moments when things can accelerate pretty quickly and also where things can move extremely slow at times. He’ll also have to get used to giving speeches on topics he may not be interested in, especially when it comes to conversations
