''The Diary of Anne Frank'' tells the story of Anne Frank and her family going into hiding from the Nazis because of their Jewish heritage. World War II was in full swing as the Franks go into hiding hoping to escape the Concentration camps that Hitler had erected. Anne recalls the 2 years they are in hiding, the experiences they have in the __Secret Annex__, and the news they here on the radio about the progress of the war. Unfortunately, Anne and her family are found and captured and sent away to Concentration camps, where all but Otto Frank, Anne's father dies, due to the horrible conditions.

Hitler had been trying to eradicate the Jewish people since 1919, and by 1933 he had his plans in place. He started out with creating laws the __Nuremberg Laws__ that would keep Jews from owning businesses, marrying with Germans, or even being out in certain public areas. These laws were created so that they had valid reasons to arrest and imprison the Jewish people. By the time World War II actually started Jewish people were made to wear yellow Stars of David to point out who they were, and they were being captured and imprisoned with no just cause.

The term Holocaust actually means __sacrifice by fire__ in the Greek holokauston. This just shows Hitler's true purpose to kill the Jewish people. However, they also targeted anyone who did not agree with their new world ideals, so homosexuals and disabled people were also captured and killed.

The Franks went into hiding in 1942 because her sister was __called up__, which meant she received a letter stating she was going to a labor camp. This drove the Franks into hiding early, and kept them in hiding for 2 years when they were captured. Anne's father, Otto, was a law breaker in his own right because he owned a business in the Netherlands, though he had transferred the control of it to his Christian friends, he still ran it.
