Students entered the stream with a large water strain, and put dirt from the stream and carried it out of the stream to be examined. Just last month, a deadly worm was found in not one, but four locations in the U.S. state of Florida. This worm, until recently, was documented in only twenty-one countries, most of which were island nations. Although the New Guinea Flatworm may seem as a highly dangerous predator, it is only about two inches in length and mainly targets snails for its nutrition. These worms are not harmful to humans, but they will feast on any soft creature in the soil. In order to eat snails or any critters with a hard shell, the New Guinea Flatworm latches itself onto the shell’s opening and then spits out its own stomach through the opening in its belly. This allows an acidic goo to dissolve the snail’s flesh and the worm can continue on with its meal by swallowing both its stomach and the snail.

Purpose The purpose of this experiment is to determine whether the fruit flies were dominant/recessive or linked/non-linked. The traits I chose for this activity was the fruit fly with vestigial wings and purple eyes, the other fruit fly I chose was a normal fly, also called wild type. While writing out my plan for this activity I thought it would be interesting to test a female mutant and the wild type male, the ratios I came up for this experiment was 2:2 and the mutant allele being recessive to the wild type. In this case, the words recessive and dominant means, if the child born from the parents inherits more of the genes and traits from let us say the father then the alleles of the father is dominant over the mother’s genes.

In our experiment, we tested the effect of tobacco on the heart rate of worms. We discovered that tobacco does affect the heart rate of Planaria worms. Our data from the experiment proves this. When the Planaria worm was exposed to various amounts of water and various amounts of tobacco extract, the worm moved different distances. Focusing on the amount with the greatest change (2mL), we can see that the worm moved an average of 3.33 squares for 2 ml of water compared to an average of 7.67 squares for 2 ml of tobacco extract. That is a 4.34 square difference. The purpose of this experiment is to test how location affects whether or not the clay caterpillar models will get pecked by birds. Twenty-one clay caterpillars were made and they were made to be 5 cm ± 0.01cm long and 1 cm ± 0.01cm in diameter. Seven caterpillar models were placed in each of the three locations. The three locations are my backyard, the park, and my community garden. As a control variable, all the caterpillars were placed 300 cm ± 50 cm above the ground.
