6 February 2016 Animals Shouldn't Be Used In Research Testing
Imagine being thrown into a tiny cage containing 5 other humans. The only time you're taken out is when a strange creature yanks you out, and pushes you into a different room containing some more humans and more of these strange creatures. You look around. The other humans are in small contraptions that force them to keep their head up. The creature that was escorting you shoves you into one of these contraptions and leaves. Now another creature arrives wearing a long white coat. This creature is carrying an eyedropper filled with a liquid that you have never seen before. It also has a strange looking

But this is not the case. They are treated inhumanely and they are housed in horrible conditions. Forget respect, the researchers and other workers treat the animals like garbage as one shocking undercover video published by PETA showed. The video showed many horrifying things but one part that stands out was when a cat tried to resist a worker by hooking its claws onto a fence and the worker replied, "Go ahead and do that, I'll rip your claws out." then proceeded to do just that three times and afterwards asked "How many do you still have left?". The animals are kept in cramped cages and there has been evidence of animals dying after workers neglected to take the animals out of their cases before washing the cages with scalding hot water. Despite all this there are those who believe that animal testing should …show more content…
Animals react to certain chemicals in a way that humans wouldn't. If you feed a dog chocolate it will die whereas if you feed it to a toddler it'll be perfectly fine. Likewise, some things that animals are immune to are dangerous to humans. For example, vultures can eat rotting flesh and be fine but a human may die. Fortunately, there are more effective ways of measuring the toxicity of a chemical and they do not require the use of animals. However, most companies still test on animals because they are so used to it, even though alternative methods are faster, cheaper, and more
Is animal testing a cruelty an experiment in cruelty. There are many good things that come from animal testing, but there are also a lot of bad things. From animal testing, researchers find medicines that help many people. Also, researchers see if drugs are safe to use on humans, and if they work. However, many animals are killed and kept in captivity and will never be free. Also, animals and humans are not the same, so some drugs that work on animals may be harmful for humans. Animal testing is cruel because it is bad on animals, it is expensive, and many animals are killed or are never the same.
It is no secret that millions of animals a year are used for medical experimentation. One study “found the number of animals tested rose from 1,566,994 in 1997 to 2,705,772 in 2012” (Casey). It is my belief that researchers use virtue theory to defend their experimentations. While animal activists approach experimentation through the ethics of care. I am against animal experimentation, but I will also provide insight into why people believe it is ethically just.
Argumentative Outline Thesis Statement: Although animals are an important part of humans lives, they deserve rights from exploitation and suffering caused by humans for the purpose of testing, entertainment, and human consumption. Animals deserve rights to be free of testing. Animal testing is unethical. Each year over 100 million animals are killed in the United States.
The amount of pain that not even most, but ALL animals have to go through every day is sickening. In an article written by PETA they mention how “It’s unethical to sentence 100 million thinking, feeling animals to life in a laboratory cage and intentionally cause them pain, loneliness, and fear.”(PETA “Top five reasons to stop animal testing”) That is a lot of animals to be stripped from their homes and sanctioned to this punishment. A big part of animal testing too is that even though they have gotten a lot better with the conditions of animal testing, they still haven't necessarily increased in quality. Animals are still
Animal experimentation has saved countless of humans lives by successfully providing test subjects for vaccines of polio, diphtheria, mumps, rubella and hepatitis. So is animal testing cruel if it benefits us as humans? Animal Testing is beneficial to humans. Animal testing has played a major role in developing treatments for breast cancer. Animals, especially chimpanzees have very similar skin tissue, therefore scientists use the animals to find cures and remedies using the animals skin.
According to The Principles of Humane Experimental Technique, published by William Russell and Rex Burch in 1959, there are 3 important principles when it comes to animal testing and research. These principles: reduction, refinement, and replacement are typically known as the “3 R’s.” Reduction is meant to minimize the number of animal used in experimental procedures, refinement aims to limit the animal’s exposure to pain, and replacement is designed to use non-animal options whenever possible. While the problem with animal testing is constantly brought to people’s attention, the number of animals used for research is still increasing to this day. It is questionable whether these principles sufficiently reflect the development in our knowledge about animals and their emotional capabilities, the interest of these animals, or the harm that corresponds. It also raises serious questions about the success rate of the predicted outcomes of animal testing.
are not able to give consent for this as would be required of a human. Other
Animals are not a reliable benchmark for testing because animals and humans have a completely different biological make up. In fact, PETA said that 72% of drugs shown to be effective in humans, have a different response in humans or are harmful to the body (Animal Testing Is Bad Science Point/Counterpoint). Disregarding the fact that some animal testing trials make it to human trials about 100,000 humans lose lives each year from taking prescriptions originally tested on animals(Animal Aid). Concluding that even if tests were to be done on animals, the drugs are not always safe, proving that animal testing can take more lives than needed and is horrifically
Animals in animal research and testing alike receive the highest standards of care, enforced by the law. Every animal research center worldwide give animals playtime, food, water, exercise, and make sure they’re loved and healthy. Also, all facilities involved with animals have a set of rules to follow called “the 3 R’s” replace testing on animals when possible, reduce number of animals in testing to a minimum, and refine pain received by animals to a minimum. Animal researchers even use painkillers and analgesia on animals to reduce pain. Animal testing is not
One of the most important questions to ask about using helpless animals to test products is: why do we do this? Usually, animals are involved in research when there is a need to find out what happens in the whole, living body, which is far more complex than the sum of its parts. Animal testing started in “1938 when Congress passed the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act in response to public outcry after several tragic incidents involving untested products occurred due to drugs and cosmetics containing
Do you like being pricked and prodded? How about having body parts removed and put on a friend? In this paper, I plan to prove that animal testing and experimentation is useless, by explaining that major medical advances were not discovered because of animal testing, animals hardly act as good models for the human body, and that testing deprives animals of their natural function. Many animals are wrongly killed daily because of animal testing and experimentation. Major medical advances were not discovered because of animal testing. There is absolutely no use in animal testing if it hasn't done anything for humans. “Experiments with mice and rats failed to turn up any connections between cancer and smoking. Epidemiological studies, not animal experiments, found links between heart disease and cholesterol” (Berlatsky). Many diseases
Millions of animals are being unneedlessly tested on for cosmetics, even though there are plenty of alternatives available and most of the results are unreliable or not applicable to humans. Although the fight against animal testing has made huge progress recently, America has yet to stop this cruel practice and chooses to torture animals while other countries are making a stop to the testing (“Animal Testing 101”).
In the first place, "The term "animal testing" refers to procedures performed on living animals for purposes of research into basic biology and diseases, assessing the effectiveness of new medicinal products" (About Animal Testing). Corporations that test on animals can legally put on the product "No animal was harmed in the making of this product", even though that may or
“Beauty without cruelty” is the outcry that can be heard from animal right activists around the world. The FDA does not require companies to perform tests on animals but if the cosmetic product contains chemicals that can be seen as toxins, testing becomes a necessity. There are currently thirteen safety tests that are performed on animals.
Animal testing is an extremely controversial topic because it deals with delicate matters and matters of humanity. Animal testing is intended to help consumers buy safe and healthy products, but they are torturing innocent animals by doing so. People that are in favor of animal testing usually are also advocates for medical research and progress, though there have been other proven methods of research. But they don’t think of it as tormenting and killing animals. On the other hand, a lot of people are compassionate about animals and think that testing on them is inhumane. These advocates of the animals think that an animal’s safety should be put
