Animal testing is done to protect humans from bad products that may hurt them, also to find ways to cure diseases that haven’t been cure yet. 95 percent of mice and rats are used for research. Mice represented the largest increase in research with their numbers going from 1.2 million to nearly 1.9 million in that period. Other animals also saw increases (Qtd animal experiment up to 73 percent, study says). Other animals that are used in research are rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, farm animals, fish, and insects, and also less than one percent cats, and dog’s area also used for research. Another reason is to treat injuries and learn more about the animal bodies to find the similarity to the human body (qtd. animal research). Animal testing is inhumane when testing to protect humans. Some people say testing on animals are life changing experiments and with the help of animal experiment can discover blood transfusion, kidney dialysis, and gene therapy for example cystic fibrosis and types of cancer( Coster 7). In conclusion, scientists and researchers shouldn’t test on animals because it hurts them hurts them. When scientists make animals have pain and the react to it they continue to cause them more pain. Most scientists and researchers buy and breed animals to do tests on them and they shouldn’t because it isn’t right and they have no right to do so. Animals are used in tests for all kinds of products. In the articles “Statement by NIH Director DR. Francis Collins on the Institute of Medicine Report Addressing the Scientific Need for the Use of Chimpanzees in Research” by Dr. Francis Collins as well as “Breakthroughs Might Mean the End of Animal Testing” by John Ericson, the use of animals for scientific testing is seen as both good and bad. Animal testing has had more ups than downs, they have been able to help cure diseases or illnesses and also provide the most similar anatomy to test.

Digging more into the research we found that cosmetics, medical use, and food are the most widely used methods for experimentation. With these research fields, people are finding ways to appeal to the ethics of the modern-day consumer.

Shaved albino rabbits and guinea pigs suffer severe testing for skin irritancy and eye irritancy. Though the usage of non-human primates are outlawed in some countries, the U.S. still finds the need to use them. The U.S. government uses tax dollars for testing pesticides and flourine products on animals.

Before, animal experimentation was something that people needed to do to find cures but it is not needed anymore. “For many laboratory scientists, this waning approval isn't cause for concern, because a near-identical trend is emerging within the research community, and more and more U.S. labs are using innovative cross-disciplinary technologies to spare at least some of the 25 million animals used for research annually”(Ericson).Now, in the 21st century scientist have developed countless things that can be used for experimentation than animals. So many labs and scientists are using theses new ways to end animal experimentation. Also, scientist can test and do experiments for countless things without worrying about laws and the amount of animals that are dying now.“The innovation takes the place of animal mediums: Instead of running the drug through an animal liver, a chemist can now force the drug to react with the chemosynthetic liver. "(Ericson).This is just one of the things that scientist have discovered to do experimentation with animals. This method is so much better than using animals. This is not just beneficial to animals but it is also beneficial to scientist because now they can know more about what is happening when they test things. These new ways of experimenting do not just save the lives of animals but they also help scientist do

25 million mice, alone out of 100 million animals, are used for testing annually. Animal testing is extremely harmful to different types of species. The Animal Welfare Act is a helpful way to begin to stop the testing. This act was signed as a federal law in 1966, this does not cover every animal used for different activities like farm animals used for fiber or for food and more (“Welfare”, 2017). Animals should not be used for human purposes. Animal Testing should be banned because this is a gigantic problem, animals become harmed in the worst way possible, and there are different ways to stop animal testing like donating to charities.

The essential need for animal research and observation is supported by health agencies and medical associations around the world.

Each year millions of animals are killed due to animal testing. Also, many more are used each year in animal testing and make it out alive but, some may not make it do to how far they go on the experiments that they are conducting. Animals are used to test many different products and one of those major products is cosmetics. They also are used to test medications and certain sicknesses to see what effects will happen to humans. Many people are for this and there are many who are completely against it. Also, people are starting to look into animal testing because of the cruelty that animals are being put through (Ferdowsian and Beck). More and more people want to end animal testing and put a stop to it. Many years ago animal testing was also starting to make people wonder if it was the correct thing to do. Some scientists were also starting to think the same as the others and wanted to stop it. At one point they had a meeting with many scientists about how animal testing keeps rising and how they are going to slow it down and possibly stop it (Ferdowsian and Beck). Animal testing is harmful to animals and should be used only on certain medications because there are new alternatives.

Imagine being a tiny harmless creature strapped down to a cold metal table in a lab, with no room to move, and multiple experiments, which are harmful to you, being tested on your body. Animals such as; mice, rats, cats, guinea pigs, and many others are suffering through this reality. In today’s society, animal testing, for scientific purposes, has become considered a normal occurrence; however, animals can not accurately represent a real comparison to humans, there are new methods that can replace animals, and scientists understand the toll it takes on animals, so it is considered animal abuse.

Animal testing has been known for the life-changing breakthroughs but also for the alarming number of deaths throughout the years. Many years have gone by since the first experiment on an animal but when is the world going to realize that animals and humans are not the same.

Animal experimentation is testing on animals such as guinea pigs, chimpanzees, rats, birds, and many other species, to find new medical discoveries and test new products for safety before sold for human consumption. Ever since ancient Greek times, animal testing has been used to learn more about the anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology of human beings. It wasn’t until 2011, when US Senator Maria Cantwell brought up the issue of animal experimentation in a bill called S. 810, the Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act. This law would have prohibited scientists from owning or performing any invasive testing on apes, or any other species of monkeys. It would have also stopped federal funding for all of the testing and required all organizations that owned the apes to retire them. Animal testing has now become a topic of discussion and debate among the government and medical researchers. However, due to the fact that animal testing is a waste of money, ethically wrong, and puts a limitation on knowledge of human anatomy, animal experimentation should not be legal.
