Power's Effect on Others Independence is not a very common trait, which is why people follow others in their actions and emotions. People's actions are mostly based on what the people around them are doing. People who have power tend to abuse it and can cause violence and cause people to have fear. The first effect that power can have on an individual and others is fear.

The meaning of power is to have possession of control, authority, or influence over others. One could argue that to have power has a positive effect on others, although it is very clear that power affects people in a negative way. Take Hitler for example, or the King Creon from the drama Antigone. These two leaders make it completely obvious that power affects people negatively from concentration camps to being forced to follow a law that is morally unjust. These are the reasons that power has a negative impact on others.

A lot of people have proven that power creates a big difference in a society. Individuals can come together and abuse it. Power is what makes people feel superior to others. Power has a negative effect on others because people with power control people and treat those beneath them with contempt.

The quantity of power "impact[s] how we know our- selves as subjects through these systems of meaning and control- the ways we understand our own bodies, the things we believe about ourselves and our relationships with other people and with institutions, and the ways we imagine change and transformation" (Spade, 6). The amount of power one obtains indicates to themselves, and to others, how much control and worth they have within society. The sub theme of power corrupting people is very eminent in animal farm. The leaders on the farm - the pigs, were the brains of the farm. The animals let the pigs lead the farm, thereby placing them into a position of power. This power corrupted them as they became more and more greedy and their ideology became more and more corrupted. Also, the pig’s transgressions of the rules of animalism worsen as they grow in power.

Power gives people the ability to control themselves, the enviroment in which they live in, and the positive impact that is being influenced to others. Power has a positive effect on people because it shows people’s true intentions and whether they have your best interest at heart or not.

How can the amount of power a person has affect how you think and act? Power and the abuse of power is one of man’s many weaknesses because multiple people have power they with fight for leadership, if a leader uses his/her power poorly, society will fall, and if someone wants power they will do unethical things to get power.

Power is not only necessary in our life, it's desired as well. Power has a positive effect on people because it gives us order in our daily life.

In the dystopian classic, Animal Farm by George Orwell, the pigs on the estate possess authority succeeding the initial revolution, and as a result, demonstrate qualities of smartness and cleverness, yet never procure Orwell’s trust. And that’s how the animals are acting toward the other animals, especially the pigs! The pigs take power after o’l major, and took everybody’s control to himself. And the animals are so caught up into the pigs lies, that they don’t know they are basically being taken advantage of, and being controlled! But, they haven’t stepped up to snowball yet, but are realizing the fame the pigs are playing. Power has to be earned and not taken advantage of, it has to be used correctly and no one should be allowed to overpower you snf control, cause that’s when you have to take control and gain your power back no matter the sacrafice you have to

Ever since the 1910’s audiences from all over the world have been drawn to disaster movies, but the real question is what keeps drawing millions of people to the theater to see movies like this? Perhaps the most obvious reason is the mere spectacle of the genre, for example in King Kong (1933) we see Kong escape from his chains and cause a rampage through the streets of New York. Watching Kong crash through walls, destroying the train tracks and climbing up the building is just jaw dropping. A sequence like this gives the film that wow factor that audiences are hungry for whenever they pay money to see something in the theater.

“The lesson then would be that those creatures who are the greediest, least scrupulous, and most power-hungry, regardless of whether they are human or animal, are the ones who will rule, no matter what the current political doctrine or theory is” (Firchow). Consequently, the one to rise to power will be the one with most ambition for power, thus less likely to treat the other animals fairly. “All talk about democracy, liberty, equality, fraternity, all revolutionary movements, all visions of utopia, or the classless society, or the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth, are humbug covering the ambitions of some new class which is elbowing its way into power” (Brander). In Animal Farm, Squealer was the mouthpiece of the pigs, elaborately presenting Napoleon’s ideas in a beneficial perspective and manipulating the other dumber animals for their own ambitions.
