Yousif Azeez Animal Farm Essay According to an article on PRI, there are still five major communist countries in the world. Much like the characters in the book Animal Farm. I believe that we all have a voice inside of us, but most of us don’t use it. I’ve also concluded that leaders have a say in how their country is run, but followers and civilians have a bigger say. Leaders such as Napoleon have charisma, military power, and confidence; although that is fantastic and admirable, it could lead to a leader going corrupt and evil due to their power. Napoleon exposes his evil side many times with actions such as having hound dogs to protect him, and executing other animals. Napoleon executes animals with opposing opinions and a will to
Orwell effectively conveys the rise of communism in Russia throughout the book Animal Farm by the accurate elucidation of the context in the Soviet Union from 1917-1945. Orwell’s attitude and political view towards Russia is evident in his representation of the farm animals on Communist Party leaders: Napoleon and Snowball, for example, are figurations of Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky, respectively. He expresses the anthropomorphic characters of farm animals, and major events in Animal Farm such as the Rebellion and the construction of the windmill, reminiscent of the Russian Revolution and the “Five-Year Plans”. Orwell also uses many techniques to describe the crucial points in Animal Farm by metaphoric language and allegorical means
After it was conceived from the mind of Karl Marx, a Communist form of government
Arguably the most powerful leader in the world to date Genghis Khan was an immoral leader who successfully built the world's largest empire in history. There have been many leaders, some moral some not. The leaders who rule with fear and violence are more effective because people have motivation to work hard and fast. But leaders who do have morals achieve less than leaders without. In the book Lord of the Flies you can see the differences between Ralph a moral leader and Jack and moral leader and the differing outcomes of both leaderships.
Napoleon Bonaparte was a great leader until he took his power too far. He helped France get out of their debt and also won multiple territories from winning wars. He continued to strengthen France with his great leadership and military strategies. Eventually, though, he began to abuse his power. He proceeded through a war, without forfeit and experienced a great defeat. During his time of power Napoleon was a paradox. Napoleon’s fall from being a great leader taught us that, sometimes when people get too used to having so much power and authority, they may abuse their powers to a large extent.
Napoleon’s Abuse of Power What is Power? Power is simply a term for people who have the ability to control certain aspect of something. It is a dangerous responsibility which can unmask someone’s true personality. Some people are able to handle this responsibility, but others such as Napoleon cannot. Abraham Lincoln once said that “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power” (Lincoln.2001.Web).
Communism played a major role shaping the 20th century, both for the East and the United States. Its impact can be seen in the US from 1919 to the 1990s and even today. The spread of Communist ideals in the East meant the beginning of the socialist state and mass industrialization. Its effect on the US was much different. The United States people, heavily diversified of all races, religions, and financial statuses, became extremely jingoistic as a result of competition with the USSR. This nationalism became unhealthy as citizens began determining what was “un-American.” The Communist Party USA was not successful in their primary objective of spreading communism to the US. What they did achieve however was hugely important. They showed that citizens of the United States could be scared out of their own freedom. That fear would lead them to give up “liberty and justice for all”. Still a highly misunderstood idea, it is important for citizens of the United States to understand what communism is and what impact the CPUSA and other communist organizations had on the country.
“Mankind must put an end to war or war will put an end to mankind.” John F. Kennedy, September 25, 1961
The U.S. has considered Communism the greatest threat before and after WW2 and the civil war. It also worked very well in China. During the 1950s, Senator Joseph McCarthy unfairly accused a number of innocent people of being communist and traitors.
The word ‘communism’ originated from ‘commun’, a French term meaning ‘belonging to all’. Before the actual foundation of communist parties and countries, there were people who had desired the theory of shared ownership and equal wealth among society for centuries. The earliest notable people to endorse this theoretical societal system included Greek philosopher Plato and religious leader
“Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely” (Lord Acton) This quote is telling us that when people get into the roles of absolute power they tend to become corrupt, as a result of that power. This quote can be applied to Napoleon from the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, because at the beginning of the novel Old Major’s words inspired Napoleon. As a result, he believed that humans were evil for forcing animals to work for them and that animals should be able to live freely, not under anyone’s control; however, as the story progresses his belief changed and the animals did not get to live their utopian dream.
Power can have the persuasive action in undoing the moral ethics of one’s character. This can be seen throughout history, such as World War II and proven by the actions of Napoleon in the allegory, Animal Farm, by George Orwell. As Lord Acton said “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” In history what was viewed as a villain or wrong doer is never the same as the perception. A leader does not begin wanting to do wrong, they start with the best intentions, but power is a tricky thing, showcased in Animal Farm as Utopian ideals but with failed practices.
The United State’s was not subtle in their distain for communism and the Soviet Union; they fanned the ideological flames between capitalism and communism rather than putting them out. Directly after the war the US created the Marshall Plan, where they gave $13 billion to European states. In President Truman’s speech ‘The Truman Doctrine’ he talks about Greece and Turkey and threatens if aid is not given, Greece’s democracy will be under threat by armed men supported by communists. This was a strategic ploy to prevent communism, by allowing capitalism to flourish. Full-employment leaves people happy, and accepting of capitalism and less likely to turn to radical communism. However the Soviet Union was not impressed with this because they believed that capitalism was the root of fascism, and their allied states declined the funding.
Since so much of Communism’s ideas were put in place to protect the government from rebellion, it came with no surprise that one of the most important things to a dictator was loyalty. Under this philosophy, criticism was not tolerated for it was seen as disloyalty. Therefore, the dictator was always right even if he was not. However, for a country to flourish, it needed accurate information instead of what the dictator wanted to hear. This was one of the main reasons Communism failed. People told lies in order to stay alive, for no one could be truly trusted. Another major thing that was important to a dictator was the military because the country had to be run by physical force and the fear of it. For example, the Soviet Union spent twenty percent of its budget on the military. The United States only used four percent of its budget. The problem with this was that the Communist invested a large percent of their money on something that had no economic return, which was a costly drain of their resources (Nielsen).
During the era of his reign, Napoleon Bonaparte was a well renowned military leader and emperor of France. The quote “Absolute power corrupts absolutely” explains how the obsession of wanting complete authority over others would overtime fade away a person’s morality. Such a bold statement seems to perfectly correlate to Napoleon Bonaparte’s own history. He was a man with such power and popularity, but who soon became insensitive to the cost humans would have to pay because of his actions causing great anguish for others. The reason being as to why Napoleon is associated with this quote is because of his infamous deeds such as the imprisonment of the Pope, the execution of d’Enghien and
What defines a good leader? How they treat people? Or if they have good visions for the future? Leadership does not necessarily gain its definition as having good intentions but more as getting the job and going it efficiently. In Gorge Orwell’s Animal Farm, the pigs lead the rebellion against Farmer Jones but eventually Napoleon takes charge and leads them all. He directed the other animals on the farm and much got accomplished from the time he took charge to the end of the book. Napoleon was not a nice leader, but he was very efficient. Even though Napoleon did not have any moral qualities and broke all the rules of originally made for Animal Farm, he prospered as did the rest of the farm. Napoleon was an effective leader on Animal Farm because
